Pros and cons

Pros

  • 7 IndiGo BluChips per Rs.100 on IndiGo bookings (about 2.9% at our 42-paisa valuation) — the strongest IndiGo earn of any card
  • Both domestic and international complimentary lounge access
  • Up to 24,000 milestone BluChips a year, plus 5,000 BluChips and a 6E Eats voucher every year the renewal fee is paid
  • Travel insurance including free flight cancellations and lost-baggage cover

Cons

  • Best value needs IndiGo bookings; base 2 BluChips per Rs.100 is ordinary
  • Rs.4,999 annual fee with no renewal-fee waiver
  • Lounge visits are conditional on prior-quarter spend of Rs.1 lakh
  • Fuel, utility, rent, government and insurance spends earn nothing

Quick verdict: IndiGo — India's largest airline by a distance — launched its SBI co-brand cards in September 2025, and the ELITE is the premium one. It earns 7 IndiGo BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo bookings (about 2.9% back at the 42 paisa we value a BluChip at — not the ₹1 that belonged to the retired 6E Rewards currency), gives both domestic and international lounge access, and piles on up to 24,000 milestone BluChips a year. For a frequent IndiGo flyer at a ₹4,999 fee, that's a strong deal. For everyone else, the base rate is ordinary.

How it earns

BluChips are IndiGo's own currency, redeemed against flights on the IndiGo app or website, and worth about 42 paise each — which is the rate the returns below are converted at:

  • 7 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo App and Web bookings — roughly a 2.9% return on your flights.
  • 3 BluChips per ₹100 on hotel/lodging and travel MCCs.
  • 2 BluChips per ₹100 on all other eligible spends.

The catch is what's excluded from earning: utility, government, rent, fuel, gaming, cross-sell and insurance transactions earn nothing. That's a wide exclusion list, so don't expect this card to reward your bill payments — keep those on a card built for them.

Welcome, milestones and 6E extras

The card front-loads generously:

  • 5,000 BluChips plus a 6E Eats voucher as a welcome gift, after you pay the fee and make your first

transaction.

  • 6,000 BluChips at each of ₹3 lakh, ₹6 lakh, ₹9 lakh and ₹12 lakh of annual spend — up to **24,000

BluChips a year** if you spend heavily.

  • 4 6E Prime Passes on ₹1 lakh spend within 90 days of opening — useful for seat selection and priority

perks on IndiGo.

The 5,000-BluChip welcome returns about ₹2,100 against the ₹4,999 fee in year one, and the milestones reward consolidating spend onto the card.

Lounges, insurance and fuel

Lounge access is the ELITE's real step up over the base card: 8 domestic visits a year (max 2 per quarter, conditional on ₹1 lakh spend in the previous calendar quarter) plus 6 international Priority Pass visits a year — SBI publishes no per-quarter sub-limit on the international allowance, so ignore anyone who tells you there is one. That international access is rare at this fee level. Two practical notes SBI does state: Priority Pass is primary-cardholder only, and the ELITE card itself is not accepted at the lounge — you present the Priority Pass. You also get travel insurance — 4 free flight cancellations a year (up to ₹3,000 each), lost card cover up to ₹1 lakh, and lost baggage cover up to ₹72,000 — plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver (₹500–₹4,000, capped at ₹400 per cycle).

Who it's right — and wrong — for

This card suits the frequent IndiGo flyer who books on the card and will use both the lounges and the milestone BluChips. At about 2.9% back on IndiGo bookings, a few flights a year plus the welcome and milestones make the ₹4,999 fee easy to justify.

It's the wrong card for someone who flies IndiGo only occasionally — the base 2 BluChips per ₹100 is nothing special, and the lounge access needs ₹1 lakh of prior-quarter spend to stay unlocked. If your IndiGo flying is light, the cheaper base IndiGo SBI Card at ₹1,499 makes more sense, or the ₹1,500 IndiGo Kotak card is worth comparing. And with no renewal-fee waiver, the ₹4,999 is a fixed annual cost you must out-earn.

The ladder tops out at ₹12 lakh — of spending that counts

The milestone structure is unusually deep: 6,000 IndiGo BluChips at each of ₹3 lakh, ₹6 lakh, ₹9 lakh and ₹12 lakh of annual spend. Clear all four and that is 24,000 BluChips — roughly ₹10,080 at the 42 paisa we value them, which genuinely reframes a ₹4,999 fee.

The qualification is where it gets hard. Utility bills, rent, insurance premiums, government payments, fuel, wallet loads and online gaming all earn nothing, and spending that earns nothing does not climb the ladder. For most households at this spend level, rent and utilities are the largest predictable outgoings of the year — so ₹12 lakh of qualifying spend is a materially steeper climb than ₹12 lakh through the card.

The benefit that needs no spending at all is the one to anchor on: 5,000 BluChips plus a 6E Eats voucher every year the renewal fee is realised — about ₹2,100 of BluChips, recurring, before you book anything. Note too that the 8 domestic lounge visits require ₹1 lakh of spend in the previous calendar quarter, so the lounge access is itself spend-gated rather than included.

The bottom line

The IndiGo SBI Card ELITE is a well-built premium airline co-brand for the person who flies India's dominant carrier regularly. Book IndiGo on it, clear the milestones, use the domestic and international lounges, and it earns its fee comfortably. If IndiGo isn't a regular part of your travel, step down to the base card or pick a flexible travel card instead — the ELITE's value lives almost entirely inside the IndiGo ecosystem.

I have spent over a decade on Indian credit cards, mostly for the points and miles. I am a software engineer by profession, I hold and use the cards I write about, and I redeem through airline and hotel transfer partners: Avios, KrisFlyer, Flying Blue, Air India Maharaja Club, Accor ALL, Marriott Bonvoy and Taj. What I write about is what a card is actually worth after the fine print, the caps and exclusions that decide the real return, and the changes issuers make quietly. No paid placements.

Frequently asked questions

Is the IndiGo SBI Card ELITE worth it in 2026?
For someone who flies IndiGo regularly and books on the card, yes — 7 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo (about 2.9% back at the 42 paisa we value a BluChip at), both domestic and international lounges, and up to 24,000 milestone BluChips a year justify the ₹4,999 fee. For infrequent IndiGo flyers, the base 2 BluChips per ₹100 is ordinary.
How much is an IndiGo BluChip worth?
About 42 paise. IndiGo publishes no fixed rate — its terms make the value vary by route, date, season and cabin, and BluChips cover base fare only, with taxes and fees always payable in cash. The familiar '1 BluChip = ₹1' belonged to 6E Rewards, the retired HDFC co-brand currency, and does not apply here.
What lounge access does the IndiGo SBI Card ELITE give?
8 domestic lounge visits a year (maximum 2 per quarter, requiring ₹1 lakh spend in the previous quarter) and 6 international Priority Pass visits a year, with no per-quarter limit on the international ones.
IndiGo SBI ELITE or the base IndiGo SBI Card?
The ELITE earns more than double the BluChips (7 vs 3 on IndiGo bookings), adds international lounges and larger milestones, but costs ₹4,999 vs ₹1,499. Choose ELITE if you fly IndiGo often; the base card if your IndiGo flying is occasional.
