Quick verdict: The base IndiGo SBI Card is the low-fee doorway into IndiGo's BluChips rewards, launched alongside the ELITE in September 2025. For ₹1,499 you get 3 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo bookings (about 1.3% back at 42 paise a BluChip), a 2,500-BluChip welcome worth about ₹1,050 against the ₹1,499 fee, up to 7,500 milestone BluChips, and 4 domestic lounge visits. It's a sensible starter for the occasional IndiGo flyer who doesn't need international lounges.
How it earns
BluChips are IndiGo's own currency, redeemed against flights on the IndiGo app or website and worth about 42 paise each:
- 3 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo App and Web bookings — roughly 1.3% back on flights at the 42-paisa
value we place on a BluChip.
- 2 BluChips per ₹100 on hotel/lodging and travel MCCs.
- 1 BluChip per ₹100 on all other eligible spends.
As on the ELITE, a broad set of categories earns nothing: utility, government, rent, fuel, gaming, cross-sell and insurance transactions are excluded. And the 1-BluChip base rate is genuinely low — this card only makes sense if a decent share of your spending is IndiGo tickets, not everyday bills.
Welcome, milestones and lounges
- 2,500 BluChips welcome, after fee payment and your first transaction within 60 days — that roughly
returns about ₹1,050 against the ₹1,499 fee in year one.
- 2,500 BluChips at each of ₹2 lakh, ₹4 lakh and ₹6 lakh of annual spend — up to **7,500 milestone
BluChips**.
- 4 domestic lounge visits a year (max 1 per quarter), unlocked on ₹50,000 spend in the previous quarter.
There's a standard 1% fuel surcharge waiver (₹500–₹4,000 transactions, capped at ₹200 per cycle). Note there's no international lounge access and no travel insurance at this tier — those are ELITE features.
Who it's right — and wrong — for
This is the right card for the occasional IndiGo flyer who wants to earn BluChips without committing to a ₹4,999 fee. If you take a handful of IndiGo flights a year and book them on the card, the welcome plus a few milestones make the ₹1,499 easy to recover, and 4 domestic lounge visits are a nice extra.
It's the wrong card if you fly IndiGo frequently — you'll earn far more on the IndiGo SBI Card ELITE, whose 7-BluChip rate and international lounges outrun the fee gap. It's also wrong as an everyday rewards card: the 1-BluChip base rate and wide exclusions mean your non-IndiGo spending barely earns. For flexible, airline-agnostic travel rewards, SBI Card MILES is the better tool.
What the milestone ladder doesn't count
The three milestones — 2,500 BluChips each at ₹2 lakh, ₹4 lakh and ₹6 lakh of annual spend — are the card's main pitch, and they are steeper than they read. Utility bills, rent, insurance premiums, government payments, fuel, wallet loads and online gaming all earn nothing on this card, and spending that earns nothing does not move you up the ladder. For most households those are the largest predictable payments of the year, so the ₹6 lakh rung sits a good deal further away than ₹6 lakh of card spending suggests.
Against that, the most dependable benefit needs no spending at all: 2,500 BluChips land every year the renewal fee is realised. At the 42 paisa we value a BluChip, that is roughly ₹1,050 against a ₹1,499 fee — about 70% of it returned before you book a single ticket. It is a recurring benefit, not a one-off welcome, which makes it the number to anchor on when deciding whether to keep the card.
It is worth totalling the ladder rather than reading the rungs separately. The three milestones are incremental, so clearing all of them means 7,500 BluChips at ₹6 lakh of qualifying spend — roughly ₹3,150 at our valuation, on top of the ₹1,050 renewal bonus. That is the realistic ceiling for a heavy spender, and it is a useful number to weigh against the ₹1,499 fee before assuming the milestones transform the card.
Worth noting too that lounge access is not unconditional: the 4 domestic visits a year unlock on ₹50,000 of spend in the previous calendar quarter.
The bottom line
The IndiGo SBI Card is exactly what it looks like: a cheap, honest starter co-brand for people who fly IndiGo now and then. Book IndiGo on it, bank the welcome and milestone BluChips, and use the domestic lounges, and it pays for itself. Fly IndiGo a lot and you'll outgrow it for the ELITE; fly it rarely and a flexible travel card serves you better. At ₹1,499, though, it's a low-risk way into the BluChips ecosystem.
