Axis Bank Cashback Credit Card

The Axis Bank Cashback Credit Card is a ₹1,000 card built for online shoppers. Its accelerated cashback is tiered on your monthly net online spend: 2% on the first ₹5,000, 5% on the slab up to ₹40,000, and 7% above that — with a total online-cashback cap of ₹4,000 a month (roughly ₹57,000 of online spend before you top out). Offline (card-present) spends and travel earn a flat 0.75% with no cap, utility bill payments earn a separate 0.5% bonus capped at ₹100 a statement, and cashback posts automatically as statement credit. There is no airport lounge access, and — unusually — no fuel surcharge waiver, so this is a pure everyday-cashback tool. A 5,000 EDGE Reward Point welcome benefit (≈₹1,000) on your first transaction covers most of the ₹1,180 all-in joining fee, and the ₹1,000 renewal waives at ₹4 lakh of annual spend — though rent and wallet loads do not count towards that bar.

Mid tier
A clean online-cashback card that rewards the way most people actually spend today. The tiered structure quietly favours heavier online spenders (you only reach the headline 7% above ₹40,000 a month), but for a typical online cart the effective rate sits around 5%, and the ₹4,000 monthly cap is generous. The honest gaps are the thin 0.75% offline base and the missing fuel waiver and lounge access — so hold it as an online specialist, not a do-everything card. Against the [Axis ACE](/cards/axis-ace), whose ₹499 fee waives at ₹2 lakh, the Cashback card only pulls ahead if your online spend is high enough to justify the higher ₹1,000 fee.

New applications paused

If you hold this card: Existing holders keep the card and its cashback structure exactly as before — only new applications are affected.

Axis stopped presenting this card in its application flow — it is simply no longer offered to new customers. There was no announcement, and the product page still carries an Apply button, which is why you will see this argued both ways: a stale product page is exactly what a quiet sourcing stop looks like.

How we checked — last verified 17 July 2026

Axis publishes no closure notice for this card, so we checked its own credit-card lineup instead. Of the 40 cards Axis lists, 27 carry an “Apply Now” button and 13 don’t — and the 13 are its retired and paused cards, including the AURA, which Axis does openly mark “no longer available”. This card is in that group: Axis shows it a “Know More” button and no way to apply, while the cards it still sources keep theirs.

We re-check this and will lift the notice as soon as the card is open to new applicants again. If you find it back on the issuer's application flow before we do, tell us — a human reads everything.

The concern

The 0.75% offline base is thin and there is no fuel surcharge waiver at all, so away from online spends the card earns very little — and the ₹1,000 fee needs real online volume to justify.

Frequently asked questions

How much cashback does it give?
Online spends earn a tiered rate — 2% up to ₹5,000, 5% up to ₹40,000 and 7% above that in a month, with total online cashback capped at ₹4,000/month. Offline and travel earn a flat 0.75%, and utility bill payments earn a separate 0.5% bonus capped at ₹100 a statement. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 5% on online shopping (rewards capped at ₹4,000 a month in that category), against 0.75% on other spends — percentages here are cashback as a share of spend, credited to the statement with no points to convert. Figures as of October 2026.
Do utility bills earn anything on this card?
Yes. Axis pays a 0.5% bonus on utility transactions, capped at ₹100 per statement, on MCCs 4816, 4899 and 4900. Telephone bill payments (MCC 4814) sit outside that bonus — they earn the base or the accelerated online rate depending on whether you pay online or offline.
Does it have lounge access?
No — the Axis Bank Cashback Credit Card has no airport lounge access. It is a pure cashback card.
Is there a fuel surcharge waiver?
No. Unusually, the Cashback Credit Card does not carry a fuel surcharge waiver, so fuel spends earn nothing extra.
What is the fee and how is it waived?
A 5,000 EDGE Reward Point welcome benefit (≈₹1,000) on your first transaction within 30 days covers most of the ₹1,180 all-in joining fee (₹1,000 + GST); the ₹1,000 renewal fee waives at ₹4 lakh of annual spend. Two conditions are easy to miss — rent and wallet-load MCCs are excluded from the spend counted towards that waiver, and Axis states the ₹1,000 annual fee and the spend-based waiver apply only to customers onboarded through the Axis Bank portal on or after 1 June 2024. The renewal fee is ₹1,000 plus 18% GST — ₹1,180 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹4,00,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹33,333 a month. Figures as of October 2026.
How will Axis apply my payment across the outstanding balance from 28 August 2026?
From 28 August 2026 Axis clears a credit card payment in this order — fees and charges including taxes, then EMIs, then interest charges, then purchase transactions, and cash advances last. That swaps the final two: the order it replaced cleared cash advances fourth and purchases last. It only bites if you pay less than the full statement balance, because a part-payment now settles purchases before it reaches a cash advance — and Axis charges interest on a cash advance from the day of withdrawal, with no interest-free period, so the costliest balance is the one left outstanding longest. Paying the statement balance in full makes the order irrelevant.

The bottom line

How this page was built

Counted from this card’s own record: 3 earn rules, 2 of them capped and the spends listed as earning nothing. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.

  1. ▼ FeeObserved 29 Jul 2026 · Effective 28 Aug 2026

Dynamic currency conversion markup more than doubles to 3.5%

    1.5% + GST→3.5% + GST

Axis Bank raised the dynamic currency conversion mark-up from 1.5% to 3.5% plus GST. DCC applies when an overseas merchant offers to bill you in rupees instead of the local currency, and it stacks on top of the usual foreign-currency mark-up. Declining the rupee option at the terminal and paying in the local currency avoids the charge entirely.

  2. ▼ FeeObserved 29 Jul 2026 · Effective 28 Aug 2026

New top late-payment slab of Rs 1,300 above Rs 50,000

Rs 1,200 on any total payment due above Rs 10,000→Rs 1,200 from Rs 10,001 to Rs 50,000; Rs 1,300 above Rs 50,000

Axis Bank added a fifth late-payment slab. Everything up to Rs 50,000 is unchanged, but a total payment due of more than Rs 50,000 now attracts Rs 1,300 instead of Rs 1,200. The same notice fixes the order in which a payment is applied to the outstanding: fees and charges including taxes first, then EMIs, interest, purchases and cash advances.

  3. ▼ RewardObserved 29 Jul 2026 · Effective 28 Aug 2026

Tolls and road fees stop earning rewards; gift cards split into their own category

Bridge fees, road fees and tolls earned at the normal rate→No rewards or cashback on bridge fees, road fees and tolls

Axis Bank added bridge fees, road fees and tolls to the spends that earn nothing. Separately, gift card purchases move out of the Wallet spend category into a new Gift Card category; they already earned no rewards, and they continue to be excluded from spend-based fee waivers and milestone thresholds.

Verification: Axis Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

2024

  1. ▼ FeeEffective 20 Dec 2024

Bank-wide charges revision: DCC markup raised, new surcharges added

1% dynamic currency conversion markup; ₹100 cash payment at branch; 1% rent surcharge capped ₹1,500/txn; no wallet/fuel/utility spend surcharge→1.5% dynamic currency conversion markup; ₹175 cash payment at branch; 1% rent surcharge uncapped; new 1% surcharge on wallet loads >₹10,000, fuel >₹50,000, utility bills >₹25,000; new 2% (min ₹500) auto-debit reversal fee; new ₹100/month penalty for two consecutive missed minimum-due payments

A portfolio-wide repricing of ancillary fees effective 20 December 2024 hit all active Axis cards, this one included. Note the monthly finance charge itself was not a change for this card specifically — Citi Cash Back was already billed at 3.75%/month before migration, matching today's rate, so no APR event is logged here.

Verification: Axis Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  2. ▼ RewardEffective 15 Jul 2024

Category cashback replaced by tiered online-shopping cashback

5% cashback on movie tickets, telephone bills and utility bill payments (each capped ₹100/month); 0.5% flat on all other spends→Tiered cashback on net online spends — 2% up to ₹5,000, 5% up to ₹40,000, 7% above (total online cashback capped ₹4,000/month); 0.75% flat on offline/travel spends; 0.5% bonus on utilities capped ₹100/statement

The migration did not just rebrand the card — it replaced Citi Cash Back's narrow category-cashback model (5% on movies/telephone/utility, tightly capped at ₹100/month each) with an entirely different online-shopping-tiered structure topping out at 7% with a ₹4,000/month cap. Legacy Citi cardholders who used the card for telephone or utility bills lost that 5% rate: utility bills moved to a dedicated 0.5% bonus tier capped at ₹100 per statement (MCCs 4816, 4899 and 4900), while telephone bills (MCC 4814) sit outside that bonus and earn the base or accelerated rate by channel. Online-shopping-heavy spenders gained a much higher ceiling. Net effect is a real devaluation for the card's original recurring-bill use case, even though online shoppers came out ahead.
