CheQ AU Credit Card

The CheQ AU is a co-brand between the fintech CheQ and AU Small Finance Bank, and India's first LED card, with an embedded light that glows on every NFC tap. Beyond the gimmick, the rewards are real but quoted at face value. It earns 24 CheQ points per ₹200 (a "12%" rate) at partner brands (Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato, BigBasket and Apple products sold by Unicorn) and on CheQ Travel and utility bills paid in the CheQ app; 10 points per ₹200 ("5%") on online shopping, dining, grocery and travel across 10,000+ brands; 5 points per ₹200 on other UPI payments through the CheQ app (UPI outside the app earns nothing); and 2 points per ₹200 on everything else. The partner-brand and 5% rates need the Visa card or CheQ UPI, because the RuPay card used at a terminal or online earns the 2-point base on those spends. The catch is the point value: 2 points = ₹1 on flights, hotels and gift cards, but 4 points = ₹1 (₹0.25) when you use them to pay a credit-card or utility bill through CheQ. So the real return is roughly half the headline (about 6% on app utilities and 2.5% on the 5% categories), and best when you redeem on travel or vouchers. Points are valid for two years from the day they are credited. The card is lifetime free, with no joining or annual fee. Every approval issues two cards, a Visa and a RuPay variant; the optional LED, which lives on the Visa card, carries a one-time ₹999 + GST.

A genuinely interesting lifetime-free card. 12% face on utilities is rare and the LED is a fun novelty, but read the redemption fine print: points are worth ₹0.50 on travel and vouchers and only ₹0.25 against a bill paid through CheQ, so the real rate is about half the marketing. Redeem on travel, pay utilities in the CheQ app and use the Visa card at partner brands, and it earns its keep; treat the points as bill credit and it underwhelms.

CheQ AU Credit Card

India's first LED card — a CheQ × AU Small Finance Bank co-brand that glows on every NFC tap and quotes a headline 12% on utilities paid in the CheQ app and at partner brands. The catch is the point value: 2 points = ₹1 on travel/vouchers but only 4 points = ₹1 against bills paid through CheQ, so the real return is roughly half the marketing (≈6% on app utilities, ≈2.5% on the 5% categories). Lifetime free; the optional LED (Visa) variant carries a one-time ₹999 + GST.

The concern

Headline "12%/5%" rates are face value at 1 point = ₹1, but points redeem at ₹0.50 (travel/vouchers) or ₹0.25 (bill payments via CheQ) — real returns are roughly half, and value is fenced inside the CheQ app.

    CheQ AU becomes lifetime-free

₹499 joining + ₹499 annual, reversible on ₹3 lakh annual spends→Lifetime free (one-time ₹999 + GST applies only to the optional LED Visa variant)

AU's Key Fact Statement v1.8 (7 July 2026) lists the CheQ AU Credit Card as lifetime-free, and the product page now shows "Joining/Annual Fee: Lifetime free" with a one-time ₹999 + GST charge only for the optional LED card. At launch (April 2026) the card carried a ₹499 joining and annual fee reversible on ₹3 lakh of annual spends, so the fee was dropped some time between 28 April and 7 July 2026; the KFS date is used here as the dated upper bound.

1% fair-usage charge once monthly fuel spends exceeded 50% of the credit limit or ₹50,000→1% on the entire aggregate once a single fuel transaction exceeds ₹10,000 or monthly fuel spends exceed ₹25,000

From 1 July 2026 AU tightened its fuel fair-usage charge: the trigger dropped from ₹50,000 of aggregate fuel spend in a calendar month to ₹25,000 (or a single fuel transaction above ₹10,000), and the 1% charge is now levied on the entire aggregate fuel spend for the month rather than the portion above the threshold. Fair-usage charges do not apply to international transactions. The complimentary fuel-surcharge waiver bands are unchanged.

  3. ▼ FeeEffective 14 Jun 2026

New 1% fair-usage charge on transportation spends

No transportation fair-usage charge→1% on the entire aggregate once monthly transportation spends exceed 50% of the credit limit or ₹25,000, whichever is lower

From 14 June 2026 AU levies a 1% fair-usage charge when aggregate transportation spends (MCC 4111, 4112 and 4784 — local commuter transport, passenger rail and tolls) in a calendar month exceed 50% of the credit limit or ₹25,000, whichever is lower. The charge applies to the entire aggregate transportation spend for the month, not just the excess. IRCTC and select marquee travel partners are excluded, international transactions are out of scope, and AU exempts the ixigo AU co-brand variants entirely. This charge is separate from (and adds to) the April 2026 removal of reward-point earning on transportation MCCs.
