IndiGo IDFC FIRST Credit Card

The IndiGo IDFC FIRST Credit Card is a dual-network co-brand (issued as both a Mastercard and a RuPay card on one account) built for people who fly IndiGo. It earns in IndiGo BluChips — the airline's own currency, which we value at about 42 paise toward IndiGo fares. IndiGo publishes no fixed rate: BluChips cover base fare only, taxes and fees are always cash, and the familiar "1 BluChip = ₹1" belonged to 6E Rewards, the retired HDFC co-brand currency, not to this one. You get 6 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo spends (plus up to 16 more from IndiGo's loyalty tiers), 3 BluChips per ₹100 on all other eligible spends in India, 1 per ₹100 on international purchases (from 26 October 2026; it was 3), and 0.5 BluChips per ₹100 on fuel, insurance, utilities, rent, wallet loads and UPI; cash and EMI earn nothing. Joining and annual fees are each ₹4,999, and paying either returns 5,000 BluChips plus an IndiGo meal voucher; a first-year activation spend of ₹1 lakh in 90 days adds a 3,000-BluChip voucher, and there are joining extras (a 3-month EazyDiner Prime membership and a ₹3,000 Postcard Hotels voucher). Annual milestones at ₹2/5/8/10/12 lakh each award 5,000 BluChips — up to 25,000 a year. Add no forex markup (IDFC removed it on all its cards in September 2026, KFS dated 15 Sep 2026; it was 1.49%), Mastercard World golf (12 green-fee rounds, 12 lessons and 4 guest rounds a year) and trip-cancellation cover up to ₹25,000 a year, and it is a genuinely rewarding card for a committed IndiGo flyer. An FD-backed secured variant (nil joining, ₹4,999 annual, no joining benefits) exists for those who cannot qualify unsecured — IDFC's page leads with a ₹50,000 minimum deposit, though it also mentions ₹1 lakh in places.

For someone whose flying is mostly IndiGo, this is one of the better co-brand cards going: 6 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo, an unusually generous 3 BluChips per ₹100 on other spends at home (1 per ₹100 abroad from 26 October 2026), no forex markup since September 2026 and up to 25,000 BluChips a year in milestones. The value is real but IndiGo-shaped — BluChips only redeem on IndiGo, so the card is only as good as your IndiGo flying. Note there is no complimentary airport lounge access in the product guide, and the ₹4,999 fee needs genuine IndiGo spend to justify.

In-depth review

IndiGo IDFC FIRST Credit Card

IndiGo's co-brand with IDFC FIRST — 6 IndiGo BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo bookings, an unusually generous 3 per ₹100 on other spends in India (1 per ₹100 abroad from 26 October 2026), no forex markup and up to 25,000 BluChips a year in milestones. A genuinely rewarding card for a committed IndiGo flyer, but BluChips only redeem on IndiGo and there is no complimentary airport lounge access, so its value is entirely IndiGo-shaped.

The concern

BluChips redeem only on IndiGo, so the card's value collapses if your flying isn't mostly IndiGo; there is also no complimentary airport lounge access in the official product guide, and the fee is ₹4,999.

Frequently asked questions

What does the card earn on IndiGo spends?
6 IndiGo BluChips per ₹100 from the card, plus up to 16 more per ₹100 from IndiGo's own loyalty-tier benefits. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 1.26% on everyday spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. It reaches 2.52% at IndiGo flight bookings on goindigo.in and the IndiGo app, and only there. Figures as of October 2026.
What does it earn on non-IndiGo spends?
3 IndiGo BluChips per ₹100 on other eligible spends in India, 1 per ₹100 on international purchases (from 26 October 2026; it was 3), and 0.5 per ₹100 on fuel, insurance, utilities, rent, wallet loads and UPI.
What is an IndiGo BluChip worth?
We value it at about 42 paise. IndiGo publishes no fixed conversion — its terms say the rate varies by route, date, season and cabin, and BluChips cover base fare only, with taxes and fees always payable in cash. The familiar "1 BluChip = ₹1" belonged to 6E Rewards, the retired HDFC co-brand currency, and does not apply here. BluChips can only be used on IndiGo, so their value depends on your IndiGo flying.
How do the milestone benefits work?
Annual spends of ₹2/5/8/10/12 lakh each award a 5,000-BluChip voucher — up to 25,000 BluChips a year. The current milestone schedule: A further 5,000-BluChip voucher at ₹12 lakh annual spend (up to 25,000 BluChips a year in total). Fully hit, that is worth about ₹2,100 a year on top of regular earn. Figures as of October 2026.
Is there a secured variant?
Yes — an FD-backed secured variant has no joining fee but the same ₹4,999 annual fee and no joining benefits. IDFC's page leads with a ₹50,000 minimum fixed deposit, though it also says ₹1 lakh in two places — confirm the current figure with the bank before applying.

International spends cut to 1 BluChip per ₹100

    3 BluChips per ₹100 (base rate)→1 BluChip per ₹100

From 26 October 2026 international purchases earn 1 IndiGo BluChip per ₹100, down from the card's 3-per-₹100 base: a two-thirds cut on exactly the spend its zero forex mark-up draws in. The zero mark-up itself is unchanged. IDFC announced it on the card's own page ahead of the date.

  2. ▲ FeeEffective 9 Sept 2026

    Forex markup removed

1% to 3.5%, depending on the card→0% (nil)

IDFC FIRST Bank stopped charging a markup on foreign-currency spends on all its credit cards from 9 September 2026, the effective date its letter to cardmembers gives. Its Key Fact Statement dated 15 September 2026 lists the markup on foreign-currency and currency-conversion transactions as nil, with no card-by-card exception, where the January 2026 edition charged 3.5% on most cards and less on a few (1.99% on the FIRST Select, 1.5% on the FIRST Wealth, 1.49% on the IndiGo card and 1% on the Ashva). The same letter says international spends stop earning reward points from 26 October 2026 on most IDFC FIRST cards; that is recorded as its own change.

Verification: IDFC FIRST Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  3. ▼ RewardEffective 22 Jul 2026

FASTag, railway, government and education cut to 0.5 BluChips

    3 BluChips per ₹100 (base rate)→0.5 BluChips per ₹100

Under a fair-usage update effective 22 July 2026, FASTag recharges (MCC 4784), railway spends (MCC 4111/4112), government services (MCC 9000-9999) and education (MCC 8211-8299) drop from the card's unusually generous 3 BluChips per ₹100 base to 0.5 per ₹100 — a ~83% cut that moves them into the same reduced bucket as fuel, rent, utilities and UPI. IDFC frames it as targeting very high or unusual usage; everyday spending is untouched.

Verification: IDFC FIRST Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  4. ▼ RewardEffective Jul 2026

BluChips now forfeited if the minimum due is missed

Credited regardless of payment behaviour→Credited on due date + 1 only if the minimum amount due is paid on time

From the July 2026 statement, a cycle's BluChips are posted the day after the payment due date and only for holders who paid at least the minimum amount due on time — miss it and that cycle's BluChips lapse entirely rather than being deferred. A single missed minimum can now wipe out a month of earning on a card built around milestone accumulation, and it also delays every credit to after the due date.

Verification: IDFC FIRST Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  5. ▼ RewardEffective 18 Jun 2026

BluChip earning capped at the credit limit per billing cycle

All eligible spend earned BluChips→Only spend up to the assigned credit limit per cycle earns

From 18 June 2026 BluChips accrue only on spends up to the assigned credit limit within a billing cycle. IDFC closed the obvious workaround explicitly: transactions enabled by repaying mid-cycle and re-using the freed-up limit do not earn either. Ordinary use is unaffected, but the card can no longer out-earn its own limit in a month.
