IDFC FIRST Power Credit Card

The IDFC FIRST Power is a serviceable, very cheap fuel-and-bills card for IDFC account holders who fill up at HPCL. The card itself earns 21X reward points (~3.5%) on HPCL fuel, capped at 700 points (₹175) a statement cycle — the ₹499 Power+ variant reaches 30X (~5%) — plus 15X (~2.5%) on grocery, utility and FASTag spends, roadside assistance and accident cover, all for a ₹199 fee waived at ₹50,000 of annual spend. HPCL's own HP Pay app pays a further ~1.5% in Happy Coins (up to 600 coins a month on ₹10,000 of app spend) — that is HPCL's separate loyalty currency, not the card's reward points. Welcome benefits are worth about ₹2,250: a ₹250 HPCL voucher, 5% cashback on the first EMI up to ₹1,000, and ₹1,000-plus of merchant offers. Booking through the IDFC FIRST app also earns accelerated travel points (26.67% on hotels, 13.33% on flights) — portal rates we deliberately keep out of our scoring baseline. It will not out-earn dedicated rivals on fuel, so its case is low cost plus HP loyalty plus an existing IDFC relationship. Get the network right first: it is HPCL, not BPCL.

In-depth review

IDFC FIRST Power Credit Card

A serviceable, very cheap fuel-and-bills card for IDFC account holders who fill up at HPCL — 21X points (~3.5%) on HPCL fuel from the card itself (30X, ~5%, on the Power+ variant), with HPCL's separate HP Pay app benefits on top, plus grocery/utility/FASTag rewards, roadside assistance and accident cover, all for a ₹199–₹499 fee. It won't out-earn dedicated rivals (the SBI Octane roughly doubles it on fuel), so its case is low cost plus HP loyalty plus an existing IDFC relationship. Get the network right first: it's HPCL, not BPCL.

Pros & cons

✓ Pros

  • Earns 21X (~3.5%) reward points on HPCL fuel purchases
  • Very low ₹199 annual fee (waived at ₹50K spend)
  • Welcome benefits worth ₹2,250 — ₹250 HPCL voucher, 5% first-EMI cashback up to ₹1,000, merchant offers
  • Accelerated travel points on IDFC FIRST app bookings (26.67% hotels / 13.33% flights — portal rates, kept out of our scoring baseline)
  • RuPay UPI-linked for everyday digital payments
  • Good companion card for IDFC FIRST account holders who also fuel at HPCL

✕ Cons

  • Rival fuel co-brands like the BPCL Octane (SBI) earn more at their own pumps — ~7.25% vs this card's ~3.5% at HPCL
  • Not a dedicated fuel card — best treated as a bank relationship card with fuel bonus
  • Reward earn outside HPCL fuel is ordinary — 2X (~0.33%) on other spends
  • Only useful if you specifically bank with IDFC and fuel at HPCL
  • ₹99 + GST is charged on EVERY redemption — IDFC's standard fee, which only FIRST Private, Club Vistara and IndiGo are exempt from — so redeem in blocks rather than monthly

The concern

The card's own fuel rate is 3.5%, capped at 700 points (₹175) a cycle — dedicated fuel cards earn more — and the ~5% headline leans on HPCL's separate HP Pay app. Non-HPCL fuel earns nothing, and spends outside the bonus categories earn just 2X (~0.33%).

Frequently asked questions

What does this card save on fuel?
Accelerated reward points on HPCL fuel — 21X (~3.5%), capped at 700 reward points (₹175) a statement cycle — with HPCL's HP Pay app paying a separate ~1.5% in Happy Coins on top. There is no fuel surcharge waiver: IDFC withdrew it on 1 May 2024 and folded an equivalent value into the fuel reward points instead.
Does it give lounge access?
No. Lounge access is a Power+ benefit, not a base Power one — the Power+ gives one domestic visit a quarter on ₹20,000 of monthly spend.
Is there an annual fee?
₹199 joining and ₹199 annual, reversed on ₹50,000 of spends in the previous anniversary year. The renewal fee is ₹199 plus 18% GST — ₹235 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹50,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹4,167 a month. Figures as of September 2026.

The bottom line

A serviceable fuel-and-bills starter for IDFC account holders on the HPCL side of the street. It does its narrow job cheaply; dedicated fuel cards earn more, so the Power wins mainly on its low fee and existing-relationship convenience. Just note it is HPCL co-branded, not BPCL.

How this page was built

Counted from this card’s own record: 3 earn rules, 2 of them capped, 1 paid only at named merchants, the spends listed as earning nothing and 2 recorded perks. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.

2026

  1. ▲ FeeEffective 15 Sept 2026

    Forex markup removed

1% to 3.5%, depending on the card→0% (nil)

IDFC FIRST Bank stopped charging a markup on foreign-currency spends. Its Key Fact Statement dated 15 September 2026 lists the markup on foreign-currency and currency-conversion transactions as nil, with no card-by-card exception, where the January 2026 edition charged 3.5% on most cards and less on a few (1.99% on the FIRST Select, 1.5% on the FIRST Wealth, 1.49% on the IndiGo card and 1% on the Ashva). IDFC did not publish an effective date: its product pages still showed the old rates on 25 August 2026 and zero forex by 21 September, so the change is dated here to the Key Fact Statement itself.

  2. ▲ RewardEffective 18 Jan 2026

Bonus reward points on travel booked in the IDFC FIRST app

No app-booking bonus→50X bonus on hotels, 30X bonus on flights

IDFC added accelerated earning on travel booked through the IDFC FIRST Bank mobile app — 50X bonus reward points on hotels and 30X on flights, the same uplift given to the pricier Power+. A rare positive, though it only pays inside the bank's own booking channel.

Verification: IDFC FIRST Bank ↗ · Confidence: Reconstructed

  3. ▼ FeeObserved 18 Dec 2025 · Effective 18 Jan 2026

Fair-usage fees on heavy FASTag and railway spends

No FASTag or railway spend fee→1% fee above ₹10,000 FASTag or ₹25,000 railway per cycle

FASTag recharges (MCC 4784) above ₹10,000 in a billing cycle now attract a 1% fee on the whole cycle's FASTag amount, and railway spends (MCC 4111, 4112) above ₹25,000 do the same. FASTag is one of this card's accelerated categories, so the heaviest users of a headline benefit are the ones now charged for it.

Verification: IDFC FIRST Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  4. ▼ RewardObserved 18 Dec 2025 · Effective 18 Jan 2026

Whole cycle's reward points forfeited if minimum due is missed

Points accrued regardless of payment behaviour→No points for any cycle where the minimum amount due is unpaid by the due date

From 18 January 2026, failing to pay at least the Minimum Amount Due by the payment due date voids reward points for that entire billing cycle, and any points already posted for it are reversed. On an entry-level card sold on affordability, one missed minimum payment now costs a full cycle of earning on top of the interest and late fee.

2024

  1. ▲ RewardObserved 1 Apr 2024 · Effective 1 May 2024

Fuel earning raised from 15X to 21X

15X, up to 500 RP (₹125) per statement cycle→21X, up to 700 RP (₹175) per statement cycle

Accelerated HPCL fuel earning rose from 15X to 21X and the per-cycle ceiling from 500 to 700 reward points (₹125 → ₹175). A genuine increase, but a modest one in absolute terms — and it arrived in the same notice that removed the fuel-surcharge waiver, which IDFC said was folded into this category. Note the sibling Power+ was lifted further, to 30X / 2,400 RP.
