IDFC FIRST WOW! Black Credit Card

The IDFC FIRST WOW! Black is the premium tier of IDFC's FD-backed secured range — a step up from the lifetime-free WOW. Because it is secured against a fixed deposit from ₹20,000 (credit limit up to 100% of the FD), approval does not depend on your income or CIBIL score, and the deposit keeps earning interest. Its standout is a genuine 0% forex markup, rare at any price and exceptional on a secured card. It earns 4 reward points per ₹150 on online, offline and international spends, up to 3 points per ₹150 on UPI, and 1 point per ₹150 on insurance and utilities, plus bonus points equal to 16.7% of hotel and 10% of flight bookings made in the app, capped at 8,000 bonus points a month. Points redeem at ₹0.25 (₹0.50 on in-app travel), with a ₹99 fee per redemption. It adds 4 domestic lounge visits a year (1 a quarter, each visit requiring ₹20,000 of spend in the preceding calendar month), golf (4 rounds and 12 lessons a year), a monthly District by Zomato movie offer, a Little Emperors luxury-hotel membership, insurance cover, a bundled RuPay UPI card, and welcome benefits worth over ₹5,000. Fuel, EMI transactions and cash withdrawals earn no points. The fee is ₹750 (waived on ₹1.5 lakh annual spend).

The concern

Your money is locked in the FD as collateral, the ~0.67% base reward rate is ordinary, and the lounge quota is small and spend-gated — the real draw is the zero forex, not the earn rate.

Frequently asked questions

Does the WOW! Black really have zero forex markup?
Yes — 0% forex markup on international transactions, which is rare on any card and exceptional on a secured, FD-backed one. This card charges no foreign-currency markup — a ₹1,00,000 overseas bill converts at the network exchange rate with ₹0 in markup fees, where a typical Indian card adds 2–3.5% plus GST. Figures as of October 2026.
Is the WOW! Black FD-backed?
Yes — it is secured against a fixed deposit from ₹20,000, so approval does not depend on your income or CIBIL score, and the FD keeps earning interest while you build credit history.
What are the reward rates?
4 RP per ₹150 (~0.67%) on online, offline and international spends, up to 3 RP per ₹150 on UPI, and 1 RP per ₹150 on insurance and utilities, plus bonus points worth 16.7% of hotel and 10% of flight bookings in the app (capped at 8,000 bonus points a month). Points are worth ₹0.25 (₹0.50 on in-app travel), and each redemption carries a ₹99 fee. Fuel, EMI and cash withdrawals earn no points. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 0.67% on everyday spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. It reaches 5% at Hotel and flight bookings made through the IDFC FIRST Bank mobile app — the hotel leg earns bonus RP worth 16.7% of the booking, flights 10%; a single 8,000 bonus-point monthly cap is shared across both legs, so this row uses the conservative flight-leg encoding, and only there. 1. ▼ BenefitEffective 18 Jun 2026

Movie discount gated on staying spend-active

25% off up to ₹100, once a month→Same, but only if you transacted in the previous calendar month

From 18 June 2026 the 25%-off-up-to-₹100 monthly movie discount requires the holder to stay "spend-active" — at least one transaction on the card in the previous calendar month unlocks the benefit for the next. A light condition compared with the ₹20,000 monthly spend IDFC imposed on FIRST Wealth's movie benefit on the same date, but it ends the card's unconditional movie perk. Marked reconstructed: the launch press release listed the benefit without a condition, but IDFC's notice words it as "continue enjoying", so we cannot fully rule out that the condition predated the notice.

  2. ▼ RewardEffective 18 Jun 2026

Reward earning capped at your credit limit per cycle

All eligible spends earned points→Only spends up to the credit limit per cycle earn points

From 18 June 2026 reward points are earned only on spends up to the assigned credit limit in a billing cycle; anything beyond — including spend enabled by repaying and re-using the limit within the same cycle — earns nothing. On an FD-backed card whose limit is tied to the deposit, this bites hardest on holders with a small FD who cycle their limit more than once a month. Points on WOW! Black remain never-expiring, unlike the 24-month expiry imposed on FIRST Wealth on the same date.
