Quick verdict: The premium tier of IDFC's FD-backed secured range, and one of the most compelling secured cards in India: a genuine 0% forex markup, domestic lounge access, UPI rewards and a bundled RuPay card — all without an income or CIBIL check, because your fixed deposit is the collateral. The ~0.67% base earn is modest; the whole case rests on the zero forex and the no-questions approval.
Zero-forex cards are usually a reward for people who already have a strong income and a spotless credit file. The IDFC FIRST WOW! Black quietly breaks that rule. It is the premium tier of IDFC's FD-backed secured range — a step up from the lifetime-free WOW — and it delivers a genuine 0% forex markup to anyone who can park a fixed deposit, no salary slip or credit score required. For an international spender who cannot, or would rather not, chase an unsecured premium card, that is a genuinely unusual offer.
The secured foundation
Everything starts with the deposit. WOW! Black is issued against an FD from ₹20,000, with a credit limit of up to 100% of the deposit. Because the FD is the bank's security, approval does not depend on your income or CIBIL score — a thin file, no income proof, or a rebuilding history are not barriers. And the deposit is not dead money: it keeps earning its interest while the card runs, so you are effectively paying only the ₹750 fee for the card experience on top of a return you were already getting. That is the secured proposition done well: card access and credit-building without surrendering the yield on your savings.
What it earns
The headline benefit is the 0% forex markup — a real, unqualified zero, which on a card at this price and security level is exceptional and the single strongest reason to hold it. On points it earns 4 per ₹150 (~0.67%) on online, offline and international spends, up to 3 per ₹150 on UPI, and 1 per ₹150 on insurance and utilities, with bonus points equal to 16.7% of hotel and 10% of flight bookings made in the IDFC FIRST app, capped at 8,000 bonus points a month. (IDFC's own savings calculator implies double those bonus figures; the benefit copy, stated ten times across the page, governs.) Fuel, EMI transactions and cash withdrawals earn nothing. Points redeem at ₹0.25, rising to ₹0.50 for in-app travel, with a ₹99 fee per redemption. It adds four domestic lounge visits a year (one a quarter, each unlocked by ₹20,000 of spend in the preceding calendar month), golf (four rounds and twelve lessons a year, one of each per month), a 25%-off District by Zomato movie offer up to ₹100 a month, a Little Emperors Travel Tier membership (a luxury-hotel booking club, worth £299 a year), personal accident and lost-card cover with roadside assistance, cancel-for-any-reason trip cover up to ₹10,000 a year (two claims), a bundled RuPay UPI card for scan-and-pay, and a welcome bundle worth over ₹5,000 — ₹500 off your first in-app travel booking, MakeMyTrip ₹1,500, EazyDiner Prime for three months, Lenskart Gold Max, 10% off Mokobara and 5% cashback up to ₹1,000 on your first EMI conversion.

The honest limits
The zero forex carries this card, so weigh what it does not do. The base reward rate of ~0.67% is ordinary — several everyday cards beat it, so WOW! Black is a spending vehicle (for forex and UPI) more than a points engine. The lounge quota is small at four a year — and each visit is gated on ₹20,000 of spend in the preceding calendar month — and there is no international lounge access. And the structural cost of any secured card applies: your ₹20,000+ is locked in the FD as collateral for as long as you hold the card. If you already qualify for an unsecured premium metal card, the Ashva or the lifetime-free FIRST Wealth will give you a richer perk sheet without tying up a deposit.
Who should hold it
WOW! Black is the right card for the frequent international spender or credit-builder who values a real 0% forex, wants a premium, lounge-and-UPI experience, and either cannot get — or prefers not to apply for — an unsecured premium card. Park ₹20,000+, spend abroad at true zero markup, and let the deposit keep earning. It is the wrong card for a points maximiser chasing the highest everyday earn (the 0.67% base is modest), for someone unwilling to lock funds in an FD, and for a heavy lounge user who needs more than four visits a year. On its core promise, though — zero-forex spending with no income or credit check — it is close to unmatched.
