Kotak Air+ Prime Credit Card

The Kotak Air+ Prime is the flagship of Kotak's Air travel family and, refreshingly, its currency has real value: 1 Air Mile = ₹1 when redeemed for flights or hotels on Kotak's Unbox portal. It earns 5 Air Miles per ₹100 on flights and hotels booked through Unbox (capped at 15,000 miles a statement cycle) and 2 Air Miles per ₹100 everywhere else — an effective ~2% base, which is strong for a mid-fee card. That base rate is otherwise uncapped, with one exception Kotak names — insurance under MCC 6300 earns only on the first ₹25,000 a statement cycle, and other insurance codes earn nothing. You get 3,000 welcome Air Miles and 3,000 more on each renewal (₹3,000 each at ₹1/mile, so the miles cover about 85% of the ₹3,540 all-in fee), a low 2% forex markup, 4 domestic and 2 international complimentary lounge visits a year, and a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver. Auto-dealer merchants earn an accelerated 5 miles per ₹100 as well, capped at 1,500 a cycle. The important exclusion: no Air Miles accrue on international transactions at all, so the 2% forex saves you the markup but earns you nothing. Rent, fuel, utility, insurance, education, government, wallet loads, EMI conversions, online gaming and cash advances are likewise out. On fees, only the annual fee is waivable — Kotak states no waiver at all on the joining fee, and rent, wallet, utility, telecom, education and transportation spends do not count toward the ₹4 lakh waiver target. Miles transfer to airline and hotel partners from 1,000 miles, with no annual cap on how many you move — the entry Kotak Air caps transfers at 1,00,000 a year. Cheaper Air and Air+ siblings exist with lower earn and fewer perks; Prime is the top of the ladder.

The Air+ Prime is the rare Kotak card that earns its keep on rewards — Air Miles hold a genuine ₹1 value, the 2% everyday base is competitive, and 3,000 welcome plus 3,000 renewal miles cover most of the ₹3,540 all-in fee if you use them for travel. The 2% forex and lounge access round out a coherent travel card, though international spends earn no miles at all. Its ceiling is Kotak Unbox — value is best inside that portal, and partner-transfer ratios vary — so it rewards people who will book travel through Kotak.

Who is this for?

For a moderate traveller who books flights and hotels through Kotak Unbox and wants a mile that is actually worth ₹1, not a token point. The 2% base rate makes it usable as an everyday card too. On international trips the 2% forex and the lounge visits help, but understand that the spending itself earns nothing — Kotak excludes international transactions from Air Miles entirely.

Air India is the ONLY partner whose ratio moves by card, and it moves a lot: Solitaire 1:1, Air+ Prime 2:1, Kotak Air 3:1 — Solitaire is three times better than Kotak Air into the same programme. Everything else is flat across the family: Accor, Qatar, BA, Cathay, United and Flying Blue 2:1, Marriott 3:1. Etihad is Solitaire and Air+ Prime only; Aeroplan is Air+ Prime only. Because an Air Mile is already worth a fixed ₹1 on Kotak Unbox, transferring at 1:1 only wins if the partner award beats ₹1/mile — which in practice means premium-cabin redemptions, not economy.

The concern

The best value is locked to Kotak's Unbox portal (1 Air Mile = ₹1 for Unbox travel, and redemptions cap at 80% of a booking's value); away from travel bookings the miles are worth less, and partner-transfer ratios vary.

Frequently asked questions

What is one Kotak Air Mile worth?
1 Air Mile equals ₹1 when redeemed for flights or hotels on the Kotak Unbox portal. Air Miles can also be transferred to airline and hotel partners (from 1,000 miles) at varying ratios.
What is the annual fee and how is it waived?
The joining fee and the annual fee are ₹3,000 each plus GST. Only the annual fee is waivable — on ₹4,00,000 of retail spend in an anniversary year, and rent, wallet, utility, telecom, education and transportation spends do not count toward that target. Kotak publishes no waiver on the joining fee. The 3,000 welcome and 3,000 renewal Air Miles are each worth about ₹3,000 for Unbox travel, so the miles cover about 85% of the ₹3,540 all-in annual fee. The renewal fee is ₹3,000 plus 18% GST — ₹3,540 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹4,00,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹33,333 a month. Figures as of October 2026.
How many Air Miles does the Air+ Prime earn?
5 Air Miles per ₹100 on flights and hotels booked via Kotak Unbox (capped at 15,000 miles a statement cycle) and 2 Air Miles per ₹100 on all other eligible spends, otherwise uncapped except on insurance — MCC 6300 earns only on the first ₹25,000 a cycle and other insurance codes earn nothing. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 2% on everyday spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. It reaches 5% at Kotak Unbox, and only there. Figures as of October 2026.
What lounge access does it include?
4 complimentary domestic lounge visits a year (2 per quarter) and 2 complimentary international lounge visits a year. The international access runs on Priority Pass, and visits beyond the two included ones are charged at US$35 each. As per the card's current benefit schedule: 4 domestic (2 per quarter) + 2 international complimentary airport lounge visits per year; international access runs on Priority Pass, and visits beyond the 2 cost US$35 each. Figures as of October 2026.
What is the forex markup?
A low 2% foreign-currency markup, better than Kotak's standard 3.5%. Note what it does and does not buy you — Kotak states that no Air Miles accrue on international transactions, so the benefit is the markup you save, not anything you earn. On this card the foreign-currency markup is 2%, and 18% GST applies on the markup fee, so the effective cost is about 2.36% of the transaction. On ₹1,00,000 of overseas spend that works out to roughly ₹2,360 in conversion charges before any rewards offset. Figures as of October 2026.
How has the Kotak Air+ Prime Credit Card changed over time?

The bottom line

The Air+ Prime is the rare Kotak card that earns its keep on rewards — Air Miles hold a genuine ₹1 value, the 2% everyday base is competitive, and 3,000 welcome plus 3,000 renewal miles cover most of the ₹3,540 all-in fee if you use them for travel. The 2% forex and lounge access round out a coherent travel card, though international spends earn no miles at all. Kotak Air+ Prime launched — Air+ with an auto-dealer accelerator

5 Air Miles per ₹100 on Unbox travel and auto dealers, 2 per ₹100 base

Kotak introduced the Air+ Prime in May 2026 alongside the Cashback+ Prime. Trade coverage dates the launch to 8 May and describes the card as a modified version of the existing Kotak Air+ rather than a wholly new product; Kotak itself publishes neither a launch date nor any statement about lineage, so both are reconstructed. The timing is at least consistent with Kotak's own documents — the Prime Key Fact Statement is versioned 24 April 2026 and every Prime PDF sits in the bank's 2026 mailer folder. What the Prime variant adds is an accelerated 5 Air Miles per ₹100 at auto-dealer merchants (MCCs 5013, 5511, 5521 and 5533) on top of the 5 Air Miles per ₹100 on Kotak Unbox flights and hotels and the unlimited 2 Air Miles per ₹100 base rate. It carries a ₹3,000 joining and annual fee (waived at ₹4 lakh of annual spend), 3,000 welcome and 3,000 renewal Air Miles, a low 2% forex markup, and 4 domestic plus 2 international complimentary lounge visits a year. The Air Mile is worth a genuine ₹1 when redeemed for travel on Kotak's Unbox portal.
