RBL Bank Play Credit Card

The RBL Play is an entry-level entertainment card built around one recurring benefit — a ₹500 BookMyShow discount (2 tickets up to ₹250 each) every billing month you spend ₹5,000, plus up to ₹100 off food & beverage on BookMyShow bookings. It carries a ₹500 fee waived at ₹1.5 lakh of annual spend, and RBL runs a second waiver route for cardholders sourced through BookMyShow — 10 BookMyShow transactions in an anniversary year earns Superstar status, which waives the annual fee outright. RBL does not publish a base reward-points rate for it, so treat it as a movie perk card, not a rewards engine, and pair it with a proper cashback card for everyday spend.

The concern

The ₹500 benefit needs ₹5,000 of spend each billing month, the fee waiver needs either ₹1.5 lakh of annual spend or BookMyShow Superstar status, and there is no published base reward rate — without the movie habit there is little here.

Frequently asked questions

How does the movie benefit work?
A ₹500 BookMyShow discount (2 tickets up to ₹250 each) every billing month you spend ₹5,000, plus up to ₹100 off food & beverage on BookMyShow. Worth up to ₹6,000 a year for a regular moviegoer.
Is the card lifetime free?
No — it is a ₹500 card (₹500 joining and annual). There are two waiver routes — ₹1.5 lakh of annual spend, or BookMyShow Superstar status. It is not lifetime-free.
What is the BookMyShow Superstar fee waiver?
RBL tags cardholders who complete 10 transactions on BookMyShow within an anniversary year as Superstar customers, and waives the annual fee for them. RBL states this route applies to customers sourced through the BookMyShow platform, so check which route applies to your card. The renewal fee is ₹500 plus 18% GST — ₹590 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹1,50,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹12,500 a month. Figures as of October 2026.
Which spends do not count toward the thresholds?
Fuel, utility bills, wallet loads, rent, government services, insurance, cash and quasi-cash, education and EMI conversions do not count toward the monthly ₹5,000 benefit threshold or the annual fee-waiver spend, and earn no reward points.
What rewards does it earn on regular spends?
RBL does not publish a base earn rate for the Play card. Treat it as a movie-benefit card; the real value is the monthly BookMyShow discount, not base reward points (which carry a ₹99 redemption fee). In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 0.25% on everyday spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. Figures as of October 2026.
Is there a welcome benefit?
A ₹500 BookMyShow discount on your first purchase within 30 days of card issuance. The welcome benefit is currently valued at about ₹500 against a joining fee of ₹590 all-in (incl. GST) — a first-year net of roughly ₹90 against you before any spend-based rewards. Figures as of October 2026.

The bottom line

Play is a perk card, not a points engine: the ₹500 monthly BookMyShow benefit (on ₹5,000 spend) and ₹100 F&B discount easily clear the ₹500 fee for a regular moviegoer, and a BookMyShow-sourced cardholder who books 10 times a year can waive the fee without hitting the ₹1.5 lakh spend bar at all. Base earn is negligible — hold it for the movies and let another card do the everyday lifting.

How this page was built

Counted from this card’s own record: 1 earn rule, the spends listed as earning nothing and 2 recorded perks. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.

RBL Bank Play Credit Card

An entry-level entertainment card built around one recurring benefit — a ₹500 BookMyShow discount every billing month you spend ₹5,000, plus ₹100 off food & beverage. It's a perk card, not a rewards engine: there's no officially published base earn rate, and it isn't lifetime-free — though a BookMyShow-sourced cardholder can waive the fee with 10 bookings a year instead of ₹1.5 lakh of spend. Hold it for the movies and let a cashback card do the everyday work.

→

RBL Bank Binge Credit Card

An entry-level online-and-entertainment card earning 12 reward points per ₹100 on online spends — capped at 800 points a month — over a 1 point per ₹100 base, plus a monthly 1+1 BookMyShow ticket. The online accelerator is a genuinely strong entry-level rate up to the cap, but the complimentary lounge access this card once carried was discontinued in July 2025.

→

RBL Bank Blockbuster Credit Card

A mid-tier entertainment card whose headline is 2 free BookMyShow tickets every month you spend ₹20,000, backed by 4 domestic lounge visits a year and a fee-offsetting welcome bundle. The math works for a heavy, consistent spender who loves the cinema — but the ₹3,000 fee has no waiver and base earn is a thin 2 points per ₹100, so miss the monthly target and the value thins fast.

→

RBL Bank DMI Finance Credit Card

A fintech co-brand issued to DMI Finance customers through the DMI app, on Mastercard: 2 reward points per ₹100 online and 1 offline, capped at 500 points a billing cycle, with a monthly BookMyShow buy-one-get-one and a fuel surcharge waiver. A convenience card for existing DMI customers rather than a rewards standout.

→

RBL Bank SalarySe UP Credit Card

A 100% virtual RuPay-on-UPI card built with the SalarySe app, earning 5X reward points (about 1.00% at RBL's stated ₹0.20 per point) on UPI spends routed through the app and a 10X tier on incremental spend. Genuinely useful for UPI-first users — but the rich rates are capped, the card is virtual-only, and it is not the lifetime-free card its app marketing can imply.

→

RBL Bank BankBazaar SaveMax Credit Card

A genuinely lifetime-free grocery card that earns 5X reward points on supermarket spend. The catch is the maths: 5X at RBL's ~₹0.25 per point is about 1.25% in value, not 5% cashback, the grocery reward caps at 1,000 points a month, and a long list of categories earns nothing. As free upside it works; as a primary card it is thin.

→

RBL Bank TVS Credit Card

An entry-level TVS co-brand with a low ₹500 fee, a fuel surcharge waiver, a quarterly railway-lounge visit and a buy-one-get-one movie ticket. The rewards themselves are thin — about 0.5% online once you value the points honestly — so treat it as a perk card, not a rewards engine.

→

RBL Bank Paisabazaar Duet Plus Credit Card

A cashback card twinned with an Xpress Cash loan line: 2.5% on travel and dining, 1% elsewhere, but a hard ₹500/month total cashback ceiling and a ₹1,499 fee that only waives at ₹4 lakh of spend. The credit line, not the cashback, is the real draw.

→

RBL Bank BankBazaar SaveMax Pro Credit Card

The accelerated, paid sibling of the SaveMax: 10X reward points on groceries and 5X on fuel, a 5,000-point welcome, and a two-rung milestone ladder — but each accelerator caps at 1,000 points a month, everyday spend earns only 2X, the ₹1,499 fee has no waiver, and RBL sources the card by invitation only.

→

RBL Bank TVS Gold Credit Card

The mid-tier step-up in RBL's TVS co-brand line — a ₹1,500 card that adds airport-lounge access, EazyDiner dining cashback, quarterly vouchers and a bigger welcome bonus. The base domestic earn is still only about 0.5%, so this is a perk-and-milestone card whose value depends on hitting the spend thresholds.

→

RBL Bank Paisabazaar Duet Credit Card

A no-annual-fee everyday card (for cards issued after September 2021) that pairs a flat 1% cashback — capped at ₹500 a month — with a built-in Xpress Cash loan line drawn against, not on top of, your credit limit. A sensible lifetime-free backup or first card, provided you know the cashback cap and exclusions.

→

RBL Bank Cookies Credit Card

A monthly-fee lifestyle card built around three merchants: 10% cashback at Zomato, Myntra and Uber (capped ₹900/month), 5X points on online spends, and a ₹1,000 welcome voucher. Instead of an annual fee it charges ₹100 a month, waived whenever you spent ₹5,000 the previous month. Value lives almost entirely in those three partners.

→

RBL Bank Patanjali Vishisht Credit Card

A single-brand loyalty card for Patanjali shoppers: 10% cashback at Patanjali stores on ₹500+ transactions, capped at ₹500 a month. On a low ₹499 RuPay-on-UPI card it quietly pays for itself for a genuine Patanjali household — but off-brand spending earns only a token 1 point per ₹100, so it is a companion, not a primary card.

2026

  1. ▼ FeeObserved Jan 2026 · Effective 7 Jan 2026

New 1% fee on large FASTag top-ups and toll payments

No FASTag or toll transaction fee→1% fee on any FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000

From 7 January 2026 RBL Bank charges a 1% fee on any single FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000, measured per transaction per card, across merchant category codes 4784, 4111 and 4131. Because the threshold is per transaction rather than a monthly aggregate, it bites on one-off large FASTag top-ups rather than on regular commuting; splitting a top-up below ₹10,000 avoids it. The fee sits alongside RBL's existing 1% charges on rent, on utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, on fuel transactions above ₹10,000, and on education payments routed through third-party apps. It is a fee on the transaction, not a change to reward earning — these categories already earn no reward points on most RBL cards.

2024

  1. ▼ RewardEffective 15 Oct 2024

BMS Play named in mega reward-earn exclusion

Base/milestone points on most categories→Zero points on Education, Govt, Cash, Bills2Pay & more

Effective 15 Oct 2024 RBL narrowed earning across its line-up, with BookMyShow Play explicitly named among the affected cards. Bonus milestone points stopped accruing on Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Railways, Real Estate/Rental, Education, Wallet, Government Services, Contracted Services, Cash, Bills2Pay and EMI-conversion, and zero base reward points now accrue on Education, Government Services, Contracted Services, Cash and Bills2Pay.

  2. ▼ FeeEffective 15 Oct 2024

New 1% fees on large fuel, utility & education spends

No category transaction fees→1% on large fuel/utility/education spends

From 15 Oct 2024 RBL added a 1% fee on any single fuel transaction over ₹10,000 (capped ₹3,000), a 1% fee on utility spends over ₹50,000 in a month, and a 1% fee on third-party-app education payments (Cred/PhonePe/Paytm/MobiKwik and similar). These apply to Play as a reward-agnostic fee, separate from the standard 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on ₹500–4,000 fuel spends, which continues.

2023

  1. ▼ RewardEffective 9 Oct 2023

Reward points removed on utility, fuel, insurance & more

Most spends earned base reward points→Fuel, utility, insurance, rental, railways & wallet excluded

Effective 09 Oct 2023 RBL stopped awarding reward points on Insurance, Wallet, Fuel, Utility, Rental, Railways and Miscellaneous transactions across its reward-point cards, and made EMI/utilities/insurance ineligible. Impact on Play is muted — its value is the monthly BookMyShow benefit rather than base points — but the thin base earn on these categories disappeared.

2022

  1. ◆ LaunchEffective Sept 2022

RBL Play launched with BookMyShow as an entertainment card

RBL Bank and BookMyShow launched the Play (BMS Play) credit card in September 2022, with the partnership announced publicly on 12 October 2022. Built around one recurring benefit — a ₹500 BookMyShow discount (2 tickets up to ₹250 each) every billing month you spend ₹5,000, plus up to ₹100 off food & beverage — it is a ₹500 entry card (fee waived at ₹1.5 lakh spend), earns standard RBL reward points on base spend, and carries a ₹100/month fuel-surcharge waiver. RBL has never published a base reward-points rate for the card.
