Scapia Credit Card

Scapia is genuinely disruptive — it took zero-forex markup and unlimited lounge access, once locked behind ₹3,000–₹50,000 fees and income bars, and gave them away free in a slick app. It earns 4% on travel booked through the Scapia app (20 coins per ₹100, 5 coins = ₹1) and 2% on other spends. It is issued by Federal Bank, BOBCARD (Bank of Baroda) and, since September 2026, Axis Bank — the app, the rewards and the headline terms are the same whichever bank issues it, though each bank sets its own repayment fine print. The two network rails are not identical either. The figures here are the Visa card's, and the RuPay (UPI-linked) rail earns half the rate on everyday spends — 5% coins against Visa's 10% — with a ₹500 minimum transaction rather than ₹20. For young international travellers it is the easiest "yes" in the market. February 2026 brought its first real devaluation, gating the lounge access behind ₹20,000/month of spend and removing rewards on insurance and utilities (rent and fuel are also excluded). The core magic survives — zero forex, free, app-native — but the "no catch" era is over.

The concern

The Feb 2026 devaluation gated lounge access behind ₹20,000/month and stripped earning from insurance, utilities, rent and fuel — and further trimming is possible, so it is no longer the no-strings card it once was.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 0% forex markup truly zero?
Yes — 0% forex markup on all foreign currency transactions. You pay exactly the card network exchange rate. This card charges no foreign-currency markup — a ₹1,00,000 overseas bill converts at the network exchange rate with ₹0 in markup fees, where a typical Indian card adds 2–3.5% plus GST. Figures as of October 2026.
How does domestic lounge access work?
Unlimited domestic lounge visits once you spend ₹20,000+ in a billing cycle; access switches on 3-5 working days after that cycle's billing date. Below ₹20,000 a cycle, lounge access requires a visit fee. As per the card's current benefit schedule: Unlimited domestic airport lounge access, unlocked by ₹20,000+ spend in a billing cycle (Feb 2026 spend gate) and enabled 3-5 working days after the billing date; below that, lounge visits are self-paid. Figures as of October 2026.
What are Scapia Coins?
Scapia's proprietary reward currency. 5 Scapia Coins = ₹1. Earned on every ₹20+ spend (10% of transaction amount in coins = 2% eff).
Can coins be redeemed for cash?
No — Scapia Coins can only be redeemed for travel (flights/hotels on Scapia app) and select Scapia Store purchases.
Is there a minimum income requirement?
No income proof required for digital applicants via the Scapia app. One of very few truly open-access cards in India. The exception is the Axis Bank version, launched in September 2026, whose own page lists proof of income (latest payslip, Form 16 or income-tax return) among the documents Axis needs, with an age band of 18 to 70.
Which bank and network issue the Scapia card?
Scapia is issued by Federal Bank, by BOBCARD (Bank of Baroda) and, since 3 September 2026, by Axis Bank, and you apply through the Scapia app in every case. None of the three banks publishes how the issuer is decided, so treat it as assigned rather than chosen. It matters little: the app, the rewards and the headline terms — lifetime free, 0% forex, 3.75% a month on revolved balances — are the same on all three. Only the repayment fine print differs (Federal allows up to 48 interest-free days and asks 5% of purchases as the minimum due; BOBCARD and Axis allow 50 and ask 2%), which is a revolver's concern, and this is not a card to revolve on. The network matters more than the bank. The main card earns 10% coins on eligible spends of ₹20 or more; it is Visa from Federal and BOBCARD and Mastercard from Axis. The RuPay (UPI-linked) edition every bank issues alongside it earns 5% on spends of ₹500 or more. The rates quoted on this page are the main card's.
How has the Scapia Credit Card changed over time?
Our dated Value Timeline for the Scapia Credit Card (on this page) records 8 changes since 2023: 5 devaluations, 1 improvement, and the rest neutral changes such as launches or restructures. The most recent entry: Axis Bank becomes a third issuer, on Mastercard and RuPay (3 September 2026). Each event carries its source, so any figure here can be checked against the issuer's own documents.
Has the Scapia Credit Card been devalued recently?
Yes — our record shows 2 devaluations to the Scapia Credit Card in the last 24 months. The most recent: Insurance and utility spends dropped from earning, effective 27 February 2026. The full dated list, with what changed and its source, is in the Value Timeline on this page.
When did the Scapia Credit Card's fees last change?
7 September 2024: Finance charge raised and convenience fee added — from 3.49%/month to 3.75%/month. The current fee schedule is in the fees table on this page; the Value Timeline lists every earlier fee change we have on record.
How did the Scapia Credit Card change in 2026?
Our record shows 3 changes to the Scapia Credit Card in 2026 (2 cuts): Lounge spend gate doubled to ₹20,000/month (27 February 2026); Insurance and utility spends dropped from earning (27 February 2026); Axis Bank becomes a third issuer, on Mastercard and RuPay (3 September 2026). The biggest single change: before 27 February 2026 it was ₹10,000/month; from then on, ₹20,000/month. Every event, dated and sourced, is in the Value Timeline on this page.

The bottom line

Still one of the easiest cards to recommend to a young international traveller: lifetime-free, zero forex and unlimited lounges in a slick app. The February 2026 devaluation — lounges gated at ₹20,000/month, insurance/utilities/rent/fuel dropped from earning — ended the "no catch" era, but the core proposition (free zero-forex spending) remains genuinely valuable.

Forex Card vs Zero-Forex Credit Card (2026): The Cheaper Way to Spend Abroad From India

A prepaid forex card and a zero-forex credit card both promise 0% markup abroad — but they are very different tools. This guide compares prepaid forex/travel cards (Niyo-type products) with the zero-forex CREDIT cards we track (Scapia, Fi, IDFC FIRST WOW), explains the '0% forex myth', and shows why for most Indian travellers the credit card usually wins on rewards, credit line and fraud protection.

Fi-Federal Credit Card

Discontinued. The Federal–Fi co-branded credit card programme — MagniFi, AmpliFi and SimpliFi — was wound down effective 20 March 2026: reward accruals stopped, and Fi and Federal Bank asked holders to clear dues and close their cards. The slick app integration was always the real draw and the economics always ordinary; in the end the fintech-card volatility this review long flagged is exactly what shut it. If you still hold one, move your spending to a stable issuer.

→

IndusInd Bank Tiger Credit Card

An underrated pick — one of the more interesting lifetime-free travel cards in India: domestic and international lounge access, a low 1.5% forex markup, golf and a fuel-surcharge waiver, all for a fee of exactly zero. The rewards are the weak part and are widely misdescribed: they climb through an incremental annual-spend ladder that starts at 1 point per ₹100, so 0.40% on the first ₹1 lakh and 2.40% only on spend beyond ₹5 lakh.

→

RBL Bank World Safari Credit Card

One of India's first zero-forex cards, with Priority Pass access and fee-offsetting travel vouchers — still a respectable mid-tier travel card for an RBL flyer. Two things temper it: a 0% markup applies to the markup only, not to the exchange rate the transaction is converted at, so the landed cost is worth checking against the network rate; and newer zero-forex rivals have eroded its edge.

→

OneCard Credit Card

A lifetime-free metal card with a superb app, an auto-adapting 5X engine and a low 1% forex markup — the default answer when anyone wants a free metal card. The rewards underneath are more modest than the polish suggests (and a 2025 trim made them slightly more so). Buy it for the metal, the app and the forex; keep a major-bank card around for disputes.

→

Jupiter Edge+ CSB Bank RuPay Credit Card

Answers a real question — why should UPI payments earn nothing? — with a workable RuPay card that rewards QR-code payments made through the Jupiter app. App-native and genuinely useful for the UPI-first spender, and free to take on Jupiter's current offer (the regular ₹999 joining fee can return, so it's not formally lifetime-free). But successive 2026 devaluations trimmed both the earn rate (travel 10%→7%→~5% on Jupiter Flights only) and the rewards currency (Jewel value ~30% lower for statement credit), and since October 2026 the 10% shopping rate needs more than ₹15,000 of spend in the statement cycle. Redeem via vouchers, not statement credit.

→

BOBCARD Etihad Guest Premium Credit Card

A genuine 0% forex markup at ₹5,000, plus Etihad Guest Silver on your first swipe and a route to Gold — that combination is rare in India. The miles themselves are ordinary (2 per ₹100, about 1%) and locked inside Etihad Guest. Buy it for the forex and the status; treat the miles as a bonus, not the business case.

Federal Bank Celesta Credit Card

Federal's top own-branded card is now lifetime free — the ₹3,000 fee in the Schedule of Charges binds only pre-April-2023 holders. What you get for nothing is a 2% forex markup and two international lounge visits a year with no spend gate. What you don't get is rewards: a 0.25% base, a ₹99 fee per redemption, and a 10 paisa cash-out rate.

→

Federal Bank Imperio Credit Card

The middle rung of Federal's range, and lifetime free since April 2023 — the ₹1,500 fee still in the Schedule of Charges binds only older holders. It aims 3x at grocery and healthcare and 2x at utility bills, but the base is 1 point per ₹150 at 25 paisa, so the 3x headline is really 0.5%. Hold it for the spend-gated lounge visits, not the points.

YES First Preferred Credit Card

It earned its name as the most affordable zero-forex premium card — but that's now out of date. After YES Bank's 2026 revisions, the First Preferred carries a 2.00% forex markup effective 15-Jun-2026 (up from 1.75% — and not zero), plus higher cash-advance and other charges. Still a fair travel card with lounges and golf — though the healthcare and fashion bonus categories it gets credit for come from a paid add-on, not the card. Just don't choose it for the badge it no longer wears.

Federal Bank Signet Credit Card

Federal's entry card, lifetime free since April 2023 and the only one of the three with a RuPay rail you can point at UPI. 1. ◆ NetworkEffective 3 Sept 2026

Axis Bank becomes a third issuer, on Mastercard and RuPay

On 3 September 2026 Scapia and Axis Bank launched the Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card, making Axis the third bank to issue the card after Federal Bank and BOBCARD. Axis issues the main card on Mastercard rather than Visa, with a RuPay edition for UPI. The headline terms match the other two banks: no joining or annual fee, zero forex markup, 10% in Scapia Coins on the main card and 5% on the RuPay edition, 20% on flights, hotels and buses booked in the Scapia app, and unlimited domestic lounges once ₹20,000 is spent in a billing cycle. Cards already issued by Federal Bank and BOBCARD are unaffected.

Insurance and utility spends dropped from earning

Effective 27 February 2026 Scapia stopped awarding coins on insurance (MCC 6300) and on utility spends — electricity, mobile, broadband, gas and water (MCCs 4900, 4812, 4814, 4816, 4899). With fuel and rent already excluded, this removed the easiest routes to both earn coins and hit the lounge spend target, ending the card's no-catch era.
