YES First Preferred Credit Card

The YES First Preferred earned its name as the most affordable zero-forex premium card — but that is now out of date. After YES Bank's 2026 revisions it carries a 2.00% forex markup effective 15-Jun-2026 (up from 1.75%, and not zero), plus higher cash-advance and other charges (cash withdrawal now 2.5% or ₹650). It is still a fair travel card: 8 YES Rewardz per ₹200 on most categories (~1% at ₹0.25/point), 4 per ₹200 on select categories such as grocery and utilities, with higher travel/dining/fashion/healthcare earn available only via the opt-in paid Rewards Subscription Plan (5x on those four categories for ₹5,000 a year, or 3x on all spends for ₹3,500 a year), plus spend-gated lounges and golf. The ₹999 fee waives at ₹2.5 lakh (joining waived on ₹50,000 in 3 months). Just do not choose it for the zero-forex badge it no longer wears.

YES Bank retired the First Preferred in its 2024–25 portfolio revamp, which rebuilt the lineup around the RESERV and ELITE+ tiers (RESERV succeeds the old First Exclusive, not the Preferred). No card is named as its direct successor; the current RESERV/ELITE+ range are the nearest alternatives.

The concern

The defining zero-forex feature is gone (now 2.00% effective 15-Jun-2026, up from 1.75%), and the June 2026 revision raised cash-advance/other charges — so its old headline appeal no longer applies.

Frequently asked questions

What is the annual fee for the YES First Preferred Credit Card?
The annual fee is ₹999 (joining ₹999), per YES Bank's MITC and product page. It waives on ₹2.5 lakh of annual spend, and the joining fee on ₹50,000 in the first 3 months. The renewal fee is ₹999 plus 18% GST — ₹1,179 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹2,50,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹20,833 a month. Figures as of October 2026.
What is the foreign currency markup?
The foreign currency markup is 2.00% effective 15-Jun-2026 (up from 1.75%), plus 18% GST on the markup fee. On this card the foreign-currency markup is 2%, and 18% GST applies on the markup fee, so the effective cost is about 2.36% of the transaction. On ₹1,00,000 of overseas spend that works out to roughly ₹2,360 in conversion charges before any rewards offset. Figures as of October 2026.
What is the minimum age and income to apply?
YES Bank asks for an age of 21 to 60 and a net salary of at least ₹2 lakh a month, or an ITR of ₹18 lakh and above. The issuer's published income bar for this card works out to ₹2,00,000 a month (its salaried figure, where it sets a separate one for the self-employed), and its published age band is 21–60. Treat it as necessary rather than sufficient: credit score, existing exposure and banking relationship all sit on top of any income number. Figures as of October 2026.
How has the YES First Preferred Credit Card changed over time?
Our dated Value Timeline for the YES First Preferred Credit Card (on this page) records 2 changes since 2024: 2 devaluations, 0 improvements, and the rest neutral changes such as launches or restructures. The most recent entry: Forex markup raised to 2.00% (15 June 2026). Each event carries its source, so any figure here can be checked against the issuer's own documents.

The bottom line

Still a fair travel card — lounges and golf, though the broad bonus spread it gets credit for is a paid add-on — but note it is now discontinued: after the 2026 revisions it carries a 2.00% forex effective 15-Jun-2026 (up from 1.75%, and not the zero it was famous for) and higher cash-advance charges. Good value for a YES customer, just not for the badge.

How this page was built

Counted from this card’s own record: 3 earn rules, 1 of them capped, the spends listed as earning nothing and 4 recorded perks. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.
