Pros and cons
Pros
- 1.5% cashback on offline retail (up to ₹100 per cycle)
- Monthly milestone rewards steady spenders
- RuPay/UPI-linkable with 8 railway lounge visits a year
Cons
- Split cashback/points structure — the headline rate depends on where you spend
- The 1.5% offline cashback is capped at ₹100 per statement cycle
- Utility, telecom and insurance spends earn only 1 point per ₹100, not the cashback
- Railway lounge access only, not airport
- Fee is not waived unless you spend ₹80,000 a year
Quick verdict: The AU Altura Plus is the step up from the entry Altura — a ₹499 RuPay card that pays 1.5% cashback on offline retail (capped ₹100 a statement cycle) and 2X reward points (2 per ₹100) online, with a recurring 500-point monthly milestone for steady spenders. It's a sensible second rung on the AU ladder, not a rewards engine, and it earns its modest fee for a regular RuPay/UPI spender. The one thing to get right before applying: the lounge access is railway, not airport.
The Altura Plus is for the AU account holder who has outgrown the entry Altura and wants a slightly richer everyday card — a mix of flat cashback offline and points online — without jumping to a fee-bearing rewards card. It keeps the Altura family's low-key travel touch and adds a monthly milestone that rewards consistency. Go in understanding it as an everyday card that pays a little more than the base model, and it does that job honestly.
What it earns
The Altura Plus splits its reward between two structures, and that split is the whole story:
- 1.5% cashback on offline retail spends, capped at ₹100 per statement cycle — once you hit
the cap, further offline POS spends earn 1 reward point per ₹100 instead (a post-cap fallback, not a stack on the cashback).
- 2X reward points — 2 per ₹100 — on online spends.
- Utility, telecom and insurance spends earn only 1 reward point per ₹100 (~0.25%, utility capped at
100 points per transaction) — not the 1.5% cashback.
- A recurring 500 bonus reward points for crossing ₹20,000 of retail spend in a calendar month — worth up to ~₹1,500 a year in points if you hit it every month, and the single biggest lever here for a consistent spender.
- A 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000, capped at ₹100 per statement cycle
since 1 October 2026 (it was ₹150).
- 8 complimentary railway lounge visits a year (2 per quarter) — not airport lounges.
The card is RuPay and UPI-linkable, so it slots naturally into everyday scan-and-pay spending. The catch worth stating plainly: the headline rate is only realised if your spend matches the structure — 1.5% cashback lands offline, the 2X points land online, and the two don't overlap.
Who it's really for
This is an upgrade-within-AU card, not a reason to start an AU relationship. Its case rests on already banking with AU and having outgrown the base Altura's ₹50-per-cycle cashback caps. For a steady spender who puts a mix of offline and online retail through the card — and reliably crosses ₹20,000 a month to bank the milestone — the take is genuinely more useful than the entry Altura's, without the higher fee of a dedicated rewards card.
The ₹499 + GST fee is not lifetime-free: year one waives on ₹20,000 of spend in the first 90 days, and from year two it waives on ₹80,000 of annual retail spend. If you won't clear ₹80,000 a year on the card, factor the fee in — at low spend, the 1.5% cashback has to work harder to justify it.
The honest read
The Altura Plus is a sensible everyday card, not a rewards engine. The 1.5% offline cashback is a real, uncomplicated benefit up to its ₹100-a-cycle cap (about ₹6,700 of offline spend a month — beyond that, offline earn drops to 1 point per ₹100), and the monthly milestone rewards the kind of consistent spender AU wants to keep on the ladder. But two things keep it modest: the reward is split between cashback offline and points online, so you only see the full value if your spending is shaped the right way; and the travel perk is railway lounge access, which is often misread as airport lounges. The 2X online points also carry a lower point value than the offline cashback, so "2X" reads richer than it earns.
None of that is a knock — it's a description. As a second rung for an AU customer building on the Altura, it's fair value. As a primary rewards card judged against the big banks' cashback and points cards, it's outclassed.
The bottom line
The AU Altura Plus does an honest, modest job: 1.5% cashback offline (to ₹100 a cycle), 2X points online, a 500-point monthly milestone, a fuel surcharge waiver, and railway-lounge access — all on a ₹499 RuPay card that links to UPI. It earns its fee for a regular RuPay/UPI spender who clears the milestone and the ₹80,000 annual waiver, and it's an easy step up for an AU customer who has outgrown the entry Altura. Just apply with accurate expectations: the reward only pays its headline rate if your spend matches the split, and the lounge access is railway, not airport. Take it for what it is — a slightly richer everyday card — and move up the range when your spending grows.
