RBL Bank SalarySe UP Credit Card

The RBL SalarySe UP Credit Card is a fully virtual RuPay card designed for UPI-first spenders, issued in partnership with the SalarySe app. It earns 1 reward point per ₹100 on eligible spends and 5X (5 points per ₹100) on UPI spends made through the SalarySe platform, capped at 1,000 points a month. A further 10X tier applies only to incremental UPI spends beyond ₹20,000 in a month, capped at 8,000 points. UPI through other apps, such as Google Pay or PhonePe, earns the 1-point base, and RBL pays nothing on offline UPI payments under ₹2,000 at small merchants (turnover up to ₹20 lakh a year). RBL states points redeem on the SalarySe app at ₹0.20 each with no redemption fee, so the 5X rate is roughly 1.00% and the 10X tier about 2.00%. There is no physical card — you scan and pay via UPI. The published fee is ₹499 joining and annual (waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend); the SalarySe app has at times promoted it fee-free, but RBL's own schedule of charges lists the ₹499.

A genuinely useful card for UPI-first users — 5X on app UPI spends (about 1.00% at RBL's stated ₹0.20 per point) is competitive for a RuPay entry card, and the 10X incremental tier rewards heavy spenders. The catches are the point caps, the fully virtual format, and a ₹499 fee that only waives at ₹2 lakh.

In-depth review

RBL Bank SalarySe UP Credit Card

A 100% virtual RuPay-on-UPI card built with the SalarySe app, earning 5X reward points (about 1.00% at RBL's stated ₹0.20 per point) on UPI spends routed through the app and a 10X tier on incremental spend. Genuinely useful for UPI-first users — but the rich rates are capped, the card is virtual-only, and it is not the lifetime-free card its app marketing can imply.

Should you get it?

  • Best for: UPI-first spenders who route payments through the SalarySe app, Salaried users comfortable with a virtual-only credit card
  • Entry tier — great for first-time and lower-spend users.
  • Strongest value if you spend heavily on everyday spends (0.2% back; 1% only at UPI spends via the SalarySe app).

Pros & cons

✓ Pros

  • 5X reward points (~1.00%) on UPI spends via the SalarySe app
  • 10X tier on incremental UPI spends above ₹20,000 a month
  • RuPay-on-UPI — scan-and-pay from your phone with no physical card
  • Layered one-time welcome bonus worth up to 6,000 points across first-purchase and spend milestones
  • Redeeming inside the SalarySe app carries no redemption fee

✕ Cons

  • Both accelerated tiers are capped — 1,000 points/month on 5X, 8,000 on 10X
  • The 10X tier applies only to UPI spend above ₹20,000 in a month, and only through the SalarySe app — the first ₹20,000 still earns 5X, so our modelling credits the 5X tier only
  • Points redeem at ₹0.20 in the SalarySe app, so 5X is about 1.00% — RBL's own rewards portal values a point at only ₹0.10 and charges ₹99 + GST per redemption day
  • Fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education, wallets, government services and cash earn no points
  • UPI through apps other than SalarySe earns only the 1-point base, and offline UPI under ₹2,000 at small merchants earns nothing
  • Fully virtual card — no physical plastic issued
  • ₹499 fee waives only at ₹2 lakh of annual spend; not lifetime-free despite app marketing

The concern

The rich rates are capped (1,000 points/month on 5X, 8,000 on 10X) and require routing UPI through the SalarySe app; points redeem at ₹0.20 in the app, so 5X is about 1.00% rather than the headline multiplier suggests; the card is virtual-only, and the ₹499 fee waives only at ₹2 lakh — not the lifetime-free card its app marketing can imply.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SalarySe UP a lifetime-free card?
No. RBL's schedule of charges lists a ₹499 joining and annual fee, waived on ₹2 lakh of annual spend. The SalarySe app has at times promoted it fee-free, but the official RBL fee is ₹499.
How do I earn the 5X reward points?
Make UPI payments through the SalarySe app on your RuPay card. That earns 5 points per ₹100 (about 1.00% at RBL's stated ₹0.20 per point), capped at 1,000 points a month. UPI payments through Google Pay, PhonePe or any other app earn the 1-point base instead, and offline UPI payments under ₹2,000 at small merchants earn nothing. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 0.2% on everyday spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. It reaches 1% at UPI spends via the SalarySe app, and only there. Figures as of September 2026.
What is a SalarySe UP reward point worth?
RBL states points redeem inside the SalarySe app at ₹0.20 each with no redemption fee. Redeeming through the RBL rewards portal instead values a point at ₹0.10 and attracts a ₹99 + GST fee per redemption day.
Is there a physical card?
No — it is a 100% virtual RuPay credit card, used by linking to a UPI app and scanning to pay.
What is the 10X benefit?
On the portion of your UPI spend above ₹20,000 in a month you earn 10 points per ₹100 (about 2.00%), capped at 8,000 points a month. The first ₹20,000 continues to earn the 5X rate, so the 10X tier is an increment on top rather than a replacement rate.
Which spends earn no reward points?
RBL excludes fuel and auto, utilities, insurance, quasi-cash, railways, rent and real estate, education, wallets and service providers, government services, contracted services, cash, miscellaneous and Bills2Pay. The same list gates the ₹2 lakh fee-waiver calculation. Offline UPI payments under ₹2,000 at small merchants (turnover up to ₹20 lakh a year) also earn nothing.

The bottom line

A genuinely useful card for UPI-first users — 5X on app UPI spends (about 1.00% at RBL's stated ₹0.20 per point) is competitive for a RuPay entry card, and the 10X incremental tier rewards heavy spenders. The catches are the point caps, the fully virtual format, and a ₹499 fee that only waives at ₹2 lakh.

How this page was built

Counted from this card’s own record: 2 earn rules, 1 of them capped, 1 paid only at named merchants and the spends listed as earning nothing. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.

2026

  1. ▼ FeeObserved Jan 2026 · Effective 7 Jan 2026

New 1% fee on large FASTag top-ups and toll payments

No FASTag or toll transaction fee→1% fee on any FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000

From 7 January 2026 RBL Bank charges a 1% fee on any single FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000, measured per transaction per card, across merchant category codes 4784, 4111 and 4131. Because the threshold is per transaction rather than a monthly aggregate, it bites on one-off large FASTag top-ups rather than on regular commuting; splitting a top-up below ₹10,000 avoids it. The fee sits alongside RBL's existing 1% charges on rent, on utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, on fuel transactions above ₹10,000, and on education payments routed through third-party apps. It is a fee on the transaction, not a change to reward earning — these categories already earn no reward points on most RBL cards.
