Last verified: 30 June 2026. Multipliers, caps and the Regalia Gold base rate (cut to 5 RP/₹200 on 15 May 2026) are current as of this date, and the 2026 additions below (Adani duty-free, Drivado, WooHoo, Imagine expansion) are confirmed live — but HDFC adjusts SmartBuy frequently. Confirm on the live portal before a big booking.
HDFC SmartBuy is the bank's dedicated rewards portal for travel bookings, gift vouchers and selected merchant offers. Spend through SmartBuy with an eligible HDFC card and you earn significantly more reward points than the standard out-of-pocket rate — 5X to 10X on points cards, or 5%–10% extra cashback on retail cards.
Here is the blunt version: if you hold a premium HDFC card and don't use SmartBuy, you are leaving most of the card's value on the table. An ordinary 1.5% cashback card would out-earn an unused Infinia. This guide covers how the multipliers actually work (they are not what most blog posts claim), what the caps look like in practice, the single operational step that decides whether you earn anything at all, and — critically — when SmartBuy is the right move versus when you should skip the portal entirely.
What changed on SmartBuy in 2026
If you used SmartBuy a year ago, four things are new and one has gone quiet:
- Adani One duty-free shopping (5X). You can now pre-book duty-free products online through SmartBuy and pay with your HDFC card, earning 5X points / 5% cashback. The goods are handed over only when you actually travel — at the Adani airport (Mumbai and others), after immigration, against your invoice/voucher. The earning happens at the online payment step, so the points credit even though you collect later.
- Airport-transfer cabs via Drivado (5X). A new option in the Travel section lets you book airport cabs and earn 5X / 5%. Useful caveat: Drivado is a premium service — fares run well above a normal Ola/Uber. Check the price before you book; the 5X rarely makes up the gap.
- Imagine Store, expanded beyond Apple. The Imagine electronics store used to sell only Apple (iPhone, iPad, MacBook, accessories). It now carries Dyson (vacuums, hair stylers), Marshall speakers, GoPro cameras and more premium brands — all at 5X for premium cards or 5% extra cashback on retail cards.
- WooHoo — a second gift-card store. Gift cards used to come only from Gyftr. There is now a second provider, WooHoo (a Pine Labs unit), sitting alongside Gyftr. It stocks vouchers Gyftr doesn't — most usefully Marriott (more on why that matters below). Note: at the time of writing WooHoo appears on the SmartBuy web portal but not yet inside the PayZapp app.
- Nykaa store — gone (for now). The long-standing Nykaa store has disappeared from the portal. This may be temporary; PharmEasy vanished similarly over a technical glitch and returned. Treat it as unavailable until it reappears.
Which HDFC cards earn what on SmartBuy
SmartBuy earn rates and redemption values differ sharply by card tier. As of 2026:
| HDFC card | Flights | Hotels | Gift vouchers | Monthly cap | Travel redemption value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Infinia / Infinia Metal | 5X (~16.6%) | 10X (~33.3%) | 5X (~16.6%)† | 15,000 RP/mo | ₹1.00/point |
| Diners Club Black Metal | 5X (~16.6%) | 10X (~33.3%) | 3X (~10%)† | 10,000 RP/mo | ₹1.00/point |
| Regalia Gold / Diners Privilege | 5X (~6.25%) | 10X (~12.5%) | 5X (~6.25%)† | 4,000 RP/mo | ₹0.50/point |
| Millennia / other retail | 5% cashback | 5% cashback | 5% cashback | ₹1,000/mo | — (cashback, not points) |
† Voucher earning is now capped (effective 1 July 2026). Gift-voucher (GyFTR / WooHoo) accelerated points now carry a separate 3,000 reward-point monthly sub-cap — hit at roughly ₹22,500 of voucher spend on Infinia — carved inside each card's overall SmartBuy cap (the multipliers above are unchanged). Because vouchers previously had no sub-cap and could fill the whole overall ceiling, this cut the most Infinia can earn from vouchers from 15,000 RP to 3,000 (−80%) and Diners Black Metal from 10,000 to 3,000 (−70%). Flights and hotels are unaffected. Full breakdown: HDFC SmartBuy voucher devaluation, July 2026.
Two things stand out from this table. First: hotels earn double what flights do on every premium tier — 10X against 5X — which is consistently overlooked. Past the multiplier, the remaining difference in return percentages comes from the per-point redemption value (₹1.00 for Infinia and Diners Black against ₹0.50 for Regalia Gold). Second: the Infinia and the Diners Club Black Metal earn at identical rates; what separates them is the ceiling, 15,000 accelerated points a month against 10,000.
(Corrected 2026-09-20: this guide previously said the Diners Club Black Metal "has no flight accelerator at all". It does — 5X on flights and buses, 3X on trains — confirmed verbatim against HDFC's own published SmartBuy matrix at offers.smartbuy.hdfc.bank.in/offer_details/smartbuy/15282, which is also what card-data/hdfc-diners-black.yml has recorded since 2026-09-01.)
Always verify current multipliers on the SmartBuy portal, as these shift with each devaluation cycle.

Infinia and Diners Club Black: what the top tier does differently
The mechanics in this guide apply unchanged, but the top-tier holder has two decisions the Regalia Gold holder doesn't. First, the two cards earn at the same rates but not up to the same ceiling — 10,000 accelerated points a month on the Diners Club Black Metal against 15,000 on the Infinia — so a household holding both should push SmartBuy volume onto the Infinia once the DCB's 10,000 is spent, not split by booking type. Second, at ₹1.00/point these cards have a genuine alternative to SmartBuy redemption: transferring points to airline and hotel partners, where a premium-cabin award can beat SmartBuy's flat value — the HDFC transfer guide has the break-even maths. SmartBuy remains the better default for domestic economy and hotel-cash bookings; transfers win on aspirational redemptions.
Still holding the original Regalia (non-Gold)?
The original HDFC Regalia is discontinued for new applications, but existing holders keep SmartBuy access. Two things to know. The classic card's base earn — 4 RP per ₹200 (~1.00% at ₹0.50/point) — is now about 20% below Regalia Gold's post-May-2026 base of 5 RP per ₹200 (~1.25%); HDFC's 15 May 2026 change notice rebased the classic Regalia from ₹150 to ₹200, listing it by name. And HDFC has centred its premium accelerators on the Gold as well: the SmartBuy multipliers and partner-brand offers in this guide are built around the current line-up, so check what your classic Regalia is actually offered on the portal before assuming parity. If SmartBuy hotels and flights are a meaningful share of your spend, that gap compounds the base-rate one, and both point the same way: run the Regalia Gold upgrade comparison at renewal.
Every SmartBuy category and its multiplier
Most guides only talk about flights and hotels. SmartBuy actually accelerates a wider set of categories — and the multiplier varies by category, not just by card:
| Category | Premium card multiplier | Retail card cashback | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotels | 10X | 10% | Highest return — the under-used play |
| Flights | 5X (base rate on DCB) | 5% | Four+ OTA partners; compare prices |
| Trains (IRCTC) | 3X | 3% | Rare — almost no other issuer rewards rail |
| Bus (RedBus / AbhiBus) | 5X | 5% | Bonus on inter-city tickets |
| Airport transfer (Drivado) | 5X | 5% | Premium-priced; check fare vs Ola/Uber |
| Gift vouchers (Gyftr / WooHoo) | 5X (3X on DCB) | 5% | 100+ brands; the most flexible play |
| Imagine Store (electronics) | 5X | 5% | Apple + Dyson, Marshall, GoPro |
| Adani One duty-free | 5X | 5% | Pre-book online, collect post-immigration |
The bonus on each category is the extra multiplier on top of your normal 1X. A "5X" tag means four times the usual reward points; "10X" means nine times.
The earn maths: what the multipliers actually mean for Regalia Gold
Regalia Gold earns 5 points per ₹200 at base rate (post-May 2026). Each SmartBuy point is worth ₹0.50 when redeemed for travel.
Flights (5X):
- Earn: 5 × 5 RP = 25 RP per ₹200
- Value: 25 × ₹0.50 = ₹12.50 per ₹200 = 6.25% return
Hotels (10X):
- Earn: 10 × 5 RP = 50 RP per ₹200
- Value: 50 × ₹0.50 = ₹25 per ₹200 = 12.5% return
Hotels via SmartBuy are the highest-returning category on the Regalia Gold — more than flights. This is the most under-used play.
Base rate (non-SmartBuy, redeemed via SmartBuy):
- Earn: 5 RP per ₹200, value ₹0.50 each = ₹2.50 per ₹200 = 1.25%
For an Infinia or Diners Club Black holder the same 10X on hotels lands at ~33.3% value back, because their points are worth ₹1.00 each — the headline "33%" figure you'll hear quoted in YouTube walkthroughs is the premium-card number, not the Regalia Gold one.
Monthly caps — the number you need to know
SmartBuy bonus points are capped per calendar month. For Regalia Gold the cap is 4,000 reward points per month across all accelerated categories combined. Spend above the cap earns at the base rate of 5 RP/₹200.
These caps apply only to the bonus (extra) reward points. Your normal 1X points keep accruing with no SmartBuy-specific limit (only the card's overall fair-usage ceiling applies — e.g. Infinia tops out around 2 lakh RP/month across everything). And crucially, the cap resets on the calendar month, not your statement cycle — a fact that catches out anyone who plans around their billing date.
What the cap means in practice for Regalia Gold:
| SmartBuy category | Earn per ₹200 | Spend before cap is hit |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels (10X, 50 RP/₹200) | 50 RP | ₹16,000/month |
| Flights (5X, 25 RP/₹200) | 25 RP | ₹32,000/month |
For most users the 4,000 RP cap is not a binding constraint in a normal month. In a month with a large international booking — a family vacation, a long-haul trip booked through SmartBuy — you may approach the hotel cap at ₹16,000 of hotel bookings. Plan accordingly: split a large booking across two calendar months where possible. (Premium tiers have far more headroom: 15,000 RP/month on Infinia, 10,000 on Diners Club Black Metal. Some retail cards also apply a daily cap on top of the monthly one — check your card's terms.)
The other cap: redeeming points (the 70:30 rule)
There are two separate caps in SmartBuy, and they are routinely confused:
- The earn cap (above) limits the bonus reward points you accumulate each month — 15,000 RP on Infinia, 10,000 on Diners Club Black Metal, 4,000 on Regalia Gold.
- The redemption cap limits how many points you can spend on a SmartBuy flight or hotel booking. HDFC applies a 70:30 rule — you can pay for up to ~70% of a booking's value with reward points, with the remaining ~30% charged to the card — and caps points redemption at roughly 75,000 points per month for flights and hotels combined (confirm the current figure for your card).
Practical implication: you cannot wipe out a ₹2,00,000 international booking entirely with points in one shot, even with a large balance. Plan big redemptions around both the 70:30 split and the monthly redemption cap, and spread them across statement cycles if needed.
The one step that decides everything: "via SmartBuy"
This is the most important — and most missed — step in the entire process. None of the bonus points or cashback above happen unless the transaction is actually routed through SmartBuy, and the only proof of that is a small label.
When you reach the final payment page, it must read "[Merchant] via SmartBuy" — for example Flight via SmartBuy, Hotel via SmartBuy, Myntra via SmartBuy, Jockey via SmartBuy. The same "SmartBuy" wording appears in the OTP message that lands on your phone and on the OTP-entry page itself.
If the page shows only the merchant name — just "MakeMyTrip", just "ClearTrip", just "Myntra" — without "via SmartBuy", the routing has dropped. Do not enter the OTP. Pay anyway and you'll receive only the base reward points or base cashback; the entire SmartBuy bonus is lost and there is no way to claim it afterward.
What to do when the label is missing:
- Cancel the transaction — do not submit the OTP.
- Refresh the browser (or close and reopen the PayZapp tile).
- Log back in to SmartBuy and start the booking again from the portal.
- Re-check for "via SmartBuy" on the final page before entering the OTP.
This single discipline is the difference between a 6.25% booking and a 1.25% one on Regalia Gold — or 33% versus 3.3% on an Infinia.
Web portal vs PayZapp app
You can reach SmartBuy two ways, and they are not equivalent for tracking:
- Web portal — log in to NetBanking or the SmartBuy site, authenticate with your registered mobile + OTP. This is where the full catalogue lives, including the newer WooHoo gift-card store (not yet in the app).
- PayZapp app — register your card once and you stay logged in. Scroll the home screen to the "10X" tile to open all SmartBuy options: flights, hotels, trains, bus, airport transfer, holiday packages, gift cards and direct-shopping merchants.
Because PayZapp keeps you authenticated, the "via SmartBuy" routing is more reliable there and the odds of points silently failing to track are lower. For day-to-day bookings the app is the safer default. The one exception is anything only on the web portal today — most notably WooHoo vouchers — for which you'll still want the browser.
The official address — and where Reward360 fits
Two navigational details that generate endless confusion. First, the portal's web address has migrated: the official SmartBuy home is now at offers.smartbuy.hdfc.bank.in (HDFC's newer hdfc.bank.in domain), and the long-standing offers.smartbuy.hdfcbank.com address now shows a migration notice pointing there. Reach it through NetBanking or a bookmark of the new address — never through a search-ad link, which is where lookalike phishing pages live.
Second, Reward360 is not a separate programme — it's the platform that runs SmartBuy's points-redemption side, which is why the rewards catalogue and the card-specific pages (Infinia, Diners, Regalia Gold each have their own) sit on reward360.in addresses. There is no separate Reward360 account or password: the same SmartBuy login covers earning and redeeming. If you were hunting for a "Reward360 login", what you want is the SmartBuy sign-in, then your card's rewards catalogue.
The concierge, and the card-specific pages
SmartBuy's card-specific pages are also where each premium card's concierge access lives — the 24×7 assistance line for premium HDFC cards (golf slot bookings, travel and dining arrangements) alongside the card's exclusive redemption catalogue and milestone tracking. If you hold an Infinia or Diners Club Black and have never opened your card's own SmartBuy page, it's worth a look: the concierge contact and the card-exclusive catalogue are both easy to miss from the generic storefront.
Direct-shopping merchants
Beyond travel and gift cards, a handful of brands let you click through from SmartBuy to their own site/app and still earn the bonus, as long as the "via SmartBuy" label holds: Jockey (innerwear), PharmEasy (medicines), Myntra and the Imagine electronics store, among others. The reward tends to be 5X / 5% on these; IRCTC rail is the low end at roughly 1%–3%. Promotional spikes appear from time to time (a temporary Myntra boost ran in early 2025, for instance) — treat those as time-bound and verify the live rate before relying on it.
The hotel booking strategy (the highest-value SmartBuy play)
12.5% back on hotel bookings through SmartBuy is extraordinary for a ₹2,500-fee card. To put it in context: a ₹15,000 hotel booking through SmartBuy earns ₹1,875 in point value — more than two-thirds of the annual fee in a single transaction.
The hotel catalogue is pulled from MakeMyTrip, ClearTrip and other OTA partners, covering domestic and international properties. One reassurance on the "via SmartBuy" check: the payment-page label names the fulfilling partner, not the hotel — a Cleartrip-fulfilled booking shows up as "CT Hotel via SmartBuy", and that is exactly what you want to see. The "via SmartBuy" suffix is the part that earns you the 10X; a label with only the OTA or hotel name is the one to abort on.
The same price-parity check applies as with flights: always compare the SmartBuy hotel price against the hotel's direct website and Booking.com / Agoda before confirming. If the portal price is within ₹500–1,000 of the market, book through SmartBuy. Beyond that gap, it does not make economic sense.
Flights via SmartBuy (5X, 6.25% return on Regalia Gold)
Flight bookings earn 5X on SmartBuy — 25 RP per ₹200, a 6.25% return for Regalia Gold (₹0.50/point) and ~16.6% for the Infinia and the Diners Club Black Metal (both ₹1.00/point). No premium HDFC card is excluded from the flight accelerator; the Diners Black simply runs it inside a tighter 10,000-point monthly ceiling. The one non-negotiable step: book from the SmartBuy portal (web or the PayZapp "10X" tile) and confirm the final payment page reads "Flight via SmartBuy" before you enter the OTP — that label is the only proof the 5X will credit. No label, no bonus.
SmartBuy aggregates several OTAs — MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, ClearTrip, Goibibo and Yatra — and shows you each partner's fare for your route on one screen, so you're not locked into a single seller.
How to maximise: Compare the airline's direct price and one OTA before booking through SmartBuy. If SmartBuy is within ₹200–400 for domestic or ₹1,000–2,000 for international, book there.
Budget carriers (IndiGo, SpiceJet) during OTA flash sales often undercut SmartBuy prices. Premium carriers (Air India) tend to have tighter price consistency across channels.
Trains, bus and airport transfers
These three rounding-out categories rarely move the needle on value, but two are genuinely useful because almost no rival issuer rewards them at all:
- Trains (IRCTC) — 3X / 3%. Outside HDFC's IRCTC co-branded cards, practically no issuer gives bonus rewards on rail tickets. The rate is modest, but it's free upside on spend you'd make anyway.
- Bus (RedBus / AbhiBus) — 5X / 5%. Solid bonus on inter-city bus tickets.
- Airport transfer (Drivado) — 5X / 5%. New in 2026 and convenient, but Drivado is a premium cab service priced well above Ola/Uber. The 5X almost never compensates for the higher fare — compare before booking and use it only when you'd have hired a premium cab regardless.
The gift card play
Gift vouchers are the most flexible SmartBuy category, because they let you earn the bonus on spend at brands that aren't otherwise on the portal. There are now two providers — Gyftr (the long-standing partner) and the newer WooHoo — each reached via "View All" from the gift-cards strip. Between them they carry 100+ brands: Amazon, Amazon Pay, Flipkart, Zepto, Uber, IKEA, Marriott and many more.
Here the points you earn matter more than how you later spend them:
- Buying vouchers earns 5X → 25 RP per ₹200 (Regalia Gold)
- Those 25 RP are ordinary reward points. Redeem them for travel at ₹0.50/point and the voucher purchase effectively returned 6.25% (₹12.50 per ₹200). Recycle them back into vouchers at the lower ~₹0.35/point and it's about 4.4%.
The smart loop, then, is to spend SmartBuy-earned points on travel — where Regalia Gold points are worth most — rather than churning them back into more vouchers. Either way it beats the 1.25% base rate. Pre-load gift cards each month for your expected Amazon / Flipkart spend, but cap yourself at 10–15% above typical spend — vouchers are non-refundable.
Three things to get right on gift cards:
- Sign in separately on Gyftr / WooHoo. When you land on the provider's site you'll be asked to sign in again with your mobile + OTP. Do it — if you skip the OTP step, the transaction often fails to track and the points/cashback never arrive. If you don't see a mobile/OTP prompt, open the left-hand menu, sign in there, and complete the OTP before buying.
- WooHoo unlocks brands Gyftr doesn't — chiefly Marriott. Marriott bookings normally earn nothing special at the payment step unless you hold a card that rewards hotel spend directly. Buying a Marriott gift card on WooHoo lets you earn 5X / 5% on that stay — even on an offline hotel payment — by paying with the voucher.
- Watch the few vouchers that carry a fee. A small number of cards (notably Amazon Pay) add a ~3.5% convenience fee, which trims an Infinia's 16.6% down to roughly 13%. Most vouchers carry no fee — and several popular ones come with a built-in discount on SmartBuy that stacks on top of your reward points, improving the effective return further.
Note: Infinia's January 2026 voucher cut (5X→3X) was rolled back — Infinia earns 5X on vouchers today; Diners Club Black earns 3X. The durable change is the cap: from 1 July 2026 a separate 3,000 RP/month ceiling limits accelerated voucher points on all premium cards (Regalia Gold keeps 5X but shares the same 3,000-point ceiling). See the voucher devaluation breakdown.
Imagine Store and Adani duty-free
Two product-shopping routes worth knowing:
- Imagine Store (5X / 5%). Formerly Apple-only, it now spans Dyson, Marshall and GoPro alongside iPhone, iPad and MacBook. On a premium card a high-value electronics purchase here earns 5X — though, as always, sense-check the Imagine price against Apple/Flipkart sale pricing, since a deeper discount elsewhere can beat the points.
- Adani One duty-free (5X / 5%). Pre-book duty-free goods online through SmartBuy and pay with your HDFC card; you collect the items after immigration at an Adani airport, against the invoice/voucher. Because the points credit on the online payment, this is a tidy way to earn 5X on duty-free spend you'd make anyway on an international trip.
SmartBuy vs statement credit: the redemption comparison
| Redemption route | Value per point | Effective return (Regalia Gold, base spend) |
|---|---|---|
| SmartBuy hotels | ₹0.50 | 12.5% at 10X |
| SmartBuy flights | ₹0.50 | 6.25% at 5X |
| SmartBuy gift vouchers | Up to ₹0.35 | ~4.4% at 5X |
| Base spend via SmartBuy | ₹0.50 | 1.25% |
| Statement credit | ₹0.20 | ~0.5% |
Never redeem for statement credit unless you have no travel or e-commerce planned. The 60% discount from ₹0.50 to ₹0.20 per point is enormous. If points are near expiry and you have no travel planned, buy gift vouchers at SmartBuy rates — still far better than the cashback exit.
For Infinia and Diners Club Black holders there's a third redemption route that occasionally beats SmartBuy outright: transferring points to airline and hotel partners. On those cards (2:1 ratio, ₹1.00/point base) a premium-cabin or peak-season hotel award can extract more than SmartBuy's flat value per point — see the HDFC reward points transfer guide for the full partner list and the break-even maths. On Regalia Gold (3:1) SmartBuy almost always wins, so transfers are rarely worth it.
Stacking SmartBuy with card-linked offers
HDFC runs card-linked offers via Offers4U in the mobile app. When a bonus points promotion on travel spend aligns with a SmartBuy hotel or flight booking in the same month, you can double-dip. Check Offers4U before each major booking.
Step-by-step: how to use SmartBuy
- Log in to HDFC NetBanking, the SmartBuy site, or open the PayZapp app (scroll to the "10X" tile)
- Authenticate — mobile + OTP on web, or stay signed in on PayZapp. The multipliers apply only when logged in.
- Select a category: Hotels / Flights / Trains / Bus / Airport transfer / Gift Vouchers / Imagine / Adani duty-free
- For gift cards, sign in again on Gyftr or WooHoo with mobile + OTP before buying
- On the final payment page, confirm it says "[Merchant] via SmartBuy" — and that the OTP message does too — before entering the OTP. If it doesn't, cancel and re-start.
- Points credit within 30–60 days of travel completion (flights/hotels) or voucher delivery
Priority order (Regalia Gold returns): Hotels first (12.5%), then flights (6.25%), then bus / airport transfer (5X), then gift vouchers (~4.4%), then trains (3%), then base spend (1.25%). Above all — never pay without seeing "via SmartBuy".
