Off the pump it earns a thin ~0.5%, and there's no lounge access. A near-free keeper for the light HP refueller; heavier fuel spenders belong on the pricier HPCL Super Saver.

Cons

Quick verdict: The ICICI Bank HPCL Coral is the cheapest way onto ICICI's HPCL fuel rail — a ₹199 card that waives at just ₹50,000 of annual spend and pays up to 3.5% back at HP pumps: 2.5% cashback (capped at ₹100/month) plus a 1% surcharge waiver. Off the pump it earns a thin ~0.5%, and there's no lounge. That makes it a tidy, near-free keeper for the light-to-moderate HP refueller — but heavier fuel spenders will out-earn it on the pricier HPCL Super Saver.

See how it sits against the rest of the field: Best Fuel Credit Cards in India 2026.

The HPCL Coral does one job and prices it to move. It is the entry-level rung of ICICI's HPCL co-brand ladder, built for the commuter who fills up at Hindustan Petroleum and wants a fuel card that costs next to nothing to keep. At ₹199 with a ₹50,000 waiver bar, it is effectively free for anyone who uses it, and the headline 3.5% on HP fuel is genuinely useful — provided you understand where the cap bites.

What it offers

The card is deliberately narrow, with the value concentrated at the pump:

  • Up to 3.5% back on HPCL fuel — made up of 2.5% cashback (capped at ₹100/month) plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, applied to transactions up to ₹4,000 at HP pumps.
  • ~0.5% base (2 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 at ₹0.25/point) on other retail spends, and 1 RP per ₹100 on utilities and insurance — each of those buckets capped, see below.
  • 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow, twice a month — though since ICICI's 15 Jan 2026 revision this is gated behind ₹25,000 of spend in the preceding quarter (first gated quarter Apr-Jun 2026).
  • ₹199 fee, waived at just ₹50,000 of annual spend.
  • No airport lounge access, domestic or international.

For a light HP refueller, that's a sensible bundle. The ₹50,000 waiver is a low bar — a few thousand rupees of monthly spend clears it — so in practice the card sits in your wallet for free while quietly returning 3.5% every time you fill up at HP.

The catch — mind the cap

The number that governs this card is the ₹100/month cashback cap. The 2.5% cashback only accrues on roughly the first ₹4,000 of HP fuel each month; beyond that, additional fuel spend earns only the 1% surcharge waiver, so your blended rate drifts down toward 1% the more you refuel. If you spend ₹4,000 or less a month at HP pumps, you capture the full 3.5% — if you spend ₹10,000, your effective return is closer to 1.6%.

The second limit is the thin ~0.5% off the pump. This is a single-purpose fuel card, not an everyday earner. At 2 RP per ₹100 (worth ₹0.25 each), non-fuel spend returns about half a percent — well below what a flat-cashback card like the ICICI Amazon Pay pays on general spending. Put your groceries, bills and online shopping elsewhere; use the HPCL Coral for the pump and little else.

Note too that fuel earns no reward points — the benefit is delivered entirely as cashback plus the surcharge waiver, which keeps the maths simple but means there's nothing to bank toward a redemption on fuel itself. The waiver has a ceiling of its own: ICICI applies it to the first ₹50,000 of fuel spend per statement cycle.

The third limit is the one most holders never see coming. Since 15 November 2024 ICICI has capped how much spend earns points in its everyday buckets, and the HPCL Coral sits in the bank's lower band: ₹40,000 on utilities, ₹40,000 on insurance and ₹20,000 at grocery and departmental stores, each per statement cycle. At this card's rates that works out to 400 reward points — roughly ₹100 — in each bucket. Spend past those lines still posts to the card; it simply stops earning. On a card whose off-pump rate is already thin, the practical effect is that a big annual insurance premium or a heavy grocery month returns far less than the headline rate implies.

HPCL Coral vs HPCL Super Saver

This is the decision most buyers actually face, and the two cards are easy to confuse. The ICICI HPCL Super Saver is a materially bigger card: it costs more (a ₹500 fee tier), pays around 5% on HP fuel, adds 5% on groceries and departmental stores, and includes airport lounge access — none of which the Coral offers. If you refuel heavily at HP or want a fuel card that also rewards the household grocery run, the Super Saver out-earns the Coral comfortably and is worth the higher fee.

The HPCL Coral, by contrast, is the right pick when your HP fuel spend is light-to-moderate and you simply want a near-free card that pays well at the pump without a bigger annual commitment. Same fuel network, two different weights — pick the one that matches how much you actually burn.

Both are also distinct from the plain ICICI Coral, which is a general-rewards card with no HPCL fuel focus at all.

Who should hold it

The HPCL Coral suits the light-to-moderate HPCL refueller who wants a fuel card that costs nothing to keep and doesn't mind the ₹100/month cashback ceiling. If you fill up mainly at HP pumps, spend around ₹4,000 a month or less there, and will clear the ₹50,000 waiver, this is an easy, low-stakes keeper.

It's the wrong card for heavy HP spenders (the cap throttles your return — step up to the Super Saver), for IOCL or BPCL drivers (wrong fuel network entirely), and as a general all-rounder (the ~0.5% base is weak, and there's no lounge or milestone earning to fall back on).

The bottom line

The ICICI Bank HPCL Coral is a tidy, near-free HPCL fuel card that does exactly what its price suggests. Up to 3.5% back on HP fuel for a ₹199 fee that waives at just ₹50,000 makes it an easy keeper for the HPCL-side commuter, and the low waiver bar means most holders never actually pay for it. The constraints are honest and predictable: the 2.5% cashback caps at ₹100 a month (about ₹4,000 of fuel), everything off the pump earns a thin ~0.5% with ICICI's own per-cycle ceilings on utilities, insurance and groceries on top, and there's no lounge access. Match it to a light-to-moderate HP habit and it's a sensible, boring-in-the-best-way fuel card. Burn more fuel than that, and the pricier HPCL Super Saver will earn its keep instead.

Frequently asked questions

What is the effective fuel return on the ICICI HPCL Coral?
Up to 3.5% at HPCL pumps — 2.5% cashback (capped at ₹100 a month) plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, which ICICI applies to transactions up to ₹4,000 and to the first ₹50,000 of fuel spend per statement cycle. Fuel earns no reward points; the benefit is the cashback and waiver instead.
What is the monthly fuel cashback cap?
₹100 a month on the 2.5% cashback component — roughly ₹4,000 of HP fuel spend. Beyond that, your fuel only earns the 1% surcharge waiver, so the effective rate tails off for heavy refuellers.
ICICI HPCL Coral or ICICI HPCL Super Saver?
The Coral is the cheaper entry card (₹199, up to 3.5% on HP fuel, no lounge). The HPCL Super Saver costs more but pays around 5% on HP fuel, adds 5% grocery and departmental-store earning, and includes lounge access. Light HP spenders take the Coral; heavier ones step up.
What is the annual fee and how is it waived?
₹199 joining and ₹199 annual, both plus GST. The renewal fee is waived if you spend ₹50,000 in the year — a low bar most refuellers clear easily, making the card near-free in practice.
Are the utility, insurance and grocery rewards capped on the ICICI HPCL Coral?
Yes. Since 15 November 2024 ICICI caps the spend that earns points at ₹40,000 on utilities, ₹40,000 on insurance and ₹20,000 at grocery and departmental stores, each per statement cycle. At this card's rates that is 400 reward points — about ₹100 — in each bucket. Spend beyond those lines still posts to the card, it just stops earning.
Does the ICICI HPCL Coral offer airport lounge access?
No. There is no domestic or international lounge access on this card. If lounge visits matter to you, look at the HPCL Super Saver or a broader ICICI card such as the ICICI Coral.
