ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card

ICICI Coral is the bank's long-standing starter card — modest reward-point earning, a BookMyShow/INOX movie discount and a quarterly railway/airport lounge visit. It earns 2 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 (~0.5% at about ₹0.25/point) and 1 RP per ₹100 on utilities and insurance, with a 1% HPCL fuel surcharge waiver; the ₹500 fee waives at ₹1.5 lakh. Since 15 Nov 2024 ICICI has also capped the spend that earns at all: ₹40,000 a statement cycle on utilities, ₹40,000 on insurance and ₹20,000 on groceries and departmental stores — 400 points each, then nothing. The 2026 devaluation reached even here: the movie discount is now gated behind ₹25,000 of quarterly spend, airport lounge access behind ₹75,000/quarter, and transport spends (MCC 4111/4112/4784/4131) capped at ₹10,000/month from Feb 2026 — thresholds the lighter spenders a starter card targets will struggle to clear (the railway lounge, 1/quarter, stays unconditional). ICICI's own free Amazon Pay card out-earns it for most people.

The concern

The headline movie and lounge benefits now require ₹25,000–₹75,000 of quarterly spend, so the lighter spenders this card targets may never trigger them; the base earn is just ~0.5%, and utility, insurance and grocery spend stops earning past ₹40k/₹40k/₹20k a statement cycle.

Frequently asked questions

What is the joining bonus?
There isn't one — Coral carries no welcome voucher, so the ₹500 joining fee has to be earned back through the ongoing movie and lounge benefits.
Is there lounge access?
1 airport lounge visit per quarter, but since the 2026 devaluation it only unlocks on ₹75,000 of spend in the preceding quarter — a threshold most starter-card holders will miss. The railway lounge (4 a year, 1 per quarter) stays unconditional. As per the card's current benefit schedule: 1 domestic airport lounge visit per quarter, unlocked by spending ₹75,000 in the previous calendar quarter; plus 4 railway lounge visits a year (1 per quarter) with no spend condition. Figures as of October 2026.
What is the ICICI Reward Point value?
₹0.25 per point typically. 2 points per ₹100 = 0.5% effective return — modest but consistent. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 0.5% on everyday spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. Figures as of October 2026.
How does the movie benefit work?
None — it is a discount, not a free ticket. You get 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow and on INOX, twice a month, and under ICICI's 15 Jan 2026 revision only if you spent ₹25,000 in the preceding quarter.
Is there a cap on reward points?
Yes. Since 15 November 2024 only ₹40,000 of utility spend, ₹40,000 of insurance and ₹20,000 of grocery and departmental spend earn points in a statement cycle — 400 points each. Anything above those lines earns nothing.
Should I get Coral or Amazon Pay?
Amazon Prime members should choose Amazon Pay (lifetime free, better rewards). Non-Prime ICICI customers, or those who want lounge access and will clear the quarterly spend gates that now unlock it, may prefer Coral.

The most recent: BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated, effective 1 April 2026 — from Ungated — 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow and INOX, twice a month to Same discount, but requires ₹25,000 spend in the previous quarter. The full dated list, with what changed and its source, is in the Value Timeline on this page.
When did the ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card's fees last change?
1 March 2026: Minimum Amount Due rebuilt as a two-branch formula — from 5% of the outstanding amount, plus instalments, the over-limit amount, fee GST and any unpaid previous MAD to 100% of GST, EMI principal and interest, fees, the over-limit amount and unpaid MAD, plus 5% of retail spends, cash advances and the finance charge — the finance charge taken in full whenever that 5% falls short of it. The current fee schedule is in the fees table on this page; the Value Timeline lists every earlier fee change we have on record.
How did the ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card change in 2026?
Our record shows 3 changes to the ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card in 2026 (3 cuts): Transport-category earning capped (1 February 2026); Minimum Amount Due rebuilt as a two-branch formula (1 March 2026); BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated (1 April 2026). The biggest single change: before 1 April 2026 it was Ungated — 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow and INOX, twice a month; from then on, Same discount, but requires ₹25,000 spend in the previous quarter. Every event, dated and sourced, is in the Value Timeline on this page.

The bottom line

Coral remains a serviceable first ICICI card — but the 2026 devaluation gated its movie and lounge perks behind ₹25k and ₹75k quarterly thresholds, which is exactly the spend a starter-card holder usually cannot guarantee. How this page was built

Counted from this card’s own record: 4 earn rules, 3 of them capped, the spends listed as earning nothing and 4 recorded perks. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.

ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card

The bank's long-standing starter card — a movie discount, modest dining earn, a quarterly lounge visit for ₹500. The 2026 ICICI-wide devaluation reached even here, gating the movie benefit behind ₹25,000 and lounge access behind ₹75,000 of quarterly spend — thresholds that the lighter spenders a starter card targets will struggle to clear. ICICI's own free Amazon Pay card out-earns it for most people.

→

ICICI Bank Sapphiro Credit Card

Still a sensible mid-premium card — modest reward points but enough lounge access for a monthly flyer, golf, and a fee that waives at ₹6 lakh. But ICICI has wrapped nearly every benefit in a spend condition: lounges have needed ₹75k/quarter since January 2025, and the 2026 devaluation added a ₹25k gate on movies and stopped several categories earning. Great for the consistent spender; frustrating for the occasional one.

→

Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card

Still the most frictionless cashback card in the country and the top pick for beginners — lifetime-free, 5% on Amazon for Prime members, paid instantly as spendable Amazon Pay balance with nothing to manage. But the last two years dimmed the halo: an exclusion list that now reaches utility bills paid outside Amazon, plus a wave of new transaction fees, widened the gap between the "unlimited cashback" marketing and the fine print. Still excellent — just no longer untouchable.

→

MakeMyTrip ICICI Bank Credit Card

For travellers who book everything through MakeMyTrip, a quietly excellent deal — 6% myCash on MMT hotels, 3% on flights, cabs and buses, MMTBLACK Gold status and a class-leading 0.99% forex markup, all for ₹999. The card's long-running exemption from ICICI's lounge spend-gate lapsed on 30 June 2026. The catch is the co-brand one: your value lives inside MMT, and the platform's pricing can quietly erode it. Superb if you book MMT anyway; a trap if you price-shop.

→

ICICI Bank Expressions Credit Card

A customisable-design starter card: you pick the card face, and it earns 3 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 on retail (~0.75% at ₹0.25/point) — a touch better than the 2-point Coral. It carries the usual ICICI starter kit for a ₹499 fee that waives at ₹1.5 lakh, but the lounge and movie perks now sit behind ₹75,000 and ₹25,000 quarterly spend gates, and ICICI's free Amazon Pay card still out-earns it for most people.

→

ICICI Bank HPCL Coral Credit Card

The cheapest way onto ICICI's HPCL fuel rail: a ₹199 card that waives at just ₹50,000 of annual spend and pays up to 3.5% back at HP pumps — 2.5% cashback (capped ₹100/month) plus a 1% surcharge waiver. Off the pump it earns a thin ~0.5%, and there's no lounge access. A near-free keeper for the light HP refueller; heavier fuel spenders belong on the pricier HPCL Super Saver.

→

Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card

The Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card was a cricket co-brand for CSK fans — complimentary home-match tickets, player meet-and-greets, autographed memorabilia and 10 reward points per ₹100 on match days. ICICI has since closed it to new applicants. Existing holders keep everything; the base earn was only ~0.5% and the movie and lounge perks are now spend-gated, so the fan experiences were always the real point. New customers should pick an active ICICI card instead.

→

ICICI Bank Platinum Chip Credit Card

A lifetime-free, no-frills starter whose real product is a CIBIL score, not rewards. The ICICI Reward Points earn is among the least valuable currencies in India and effectively a rounding error. Use it cleanly for a year and move up. As a stepping stone it's fine — but ICICI's own free Amazon Pay card out-earns it for most people, so consider that first.

→

ICICI Bank Rubyx Credit Card

A dual-network card (Visa/Mastercard + Amex) that gives you two lounge programmes, two offer ecosystems, golf and concierge on one bill for ₹2,000 (waivable at ₹3 lakh). The perk bundle is the genuine draw; the rewards are middling and 2026 added spend gates and exclusions. Lean on the Visa side for everyday acceptance and buy it for the lounges, not the earn.

→

Adani One ICICI Bank Platinum Credit Card

The entry card of the Adani One co-brand. It earns 3 Adani Reward Points per ₹100 at ICICI's listed participating merchants — which, on ICICI's own published list, are the shops and restaurants inside Adani-managed airports — and 1 point per ₹100 on everything else. An Adani Reward Point is worth about ₹1, so those are real percentages: 3% and 1%. The ₹750 fee waives at ₹3 lakh and the joining vouchers total ₹3,000. The catch is not the rate — it is that every point is trapped inside one app.

→

SBI SimplySAVE Credit Card

The offline counterpart to the SimplyCLICK — 10X reward points on dining, movies, groceries and departmental stores, a welcome bonus worth most of the fee, and a ₹499 charge that waives at ₹1 lakh. It pays you for spending you were doing anyway. The standing SBI caveat: a modest point value (~₹0.25, portal redemption) pulls the real return to ~1.7% on the bonus categories.

    BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated

Ungated — 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow and INOX, twice a month→Same discount, but requires ₹25,000 spend in the previous quarter

As part of ICICI's 2026 portfolio devaluation, from 1 Apr 2026 the Coral's BookMyShow and INOX offer — 25% off up to ₹100, twice a month; a discount, not a complimentary ticket — is unlocked only if the cardholder spent at least ₹25,000 in the preceding calendar quarter. It is the last of the card's marquee entry-level perks (movie + lounge) to move from unconditional to spend-gated.

From the 1 March 2026 statement onwards ICICI stopped deriving the Minimum Amount Due from a single 5%-of-outstanding line and began building it component by component: GST, EMI principal and interest, fees and charges, the over-limit amount and any unpaid previous MAD are all taken at 100%, and 5% is applied to retail spends, cash advances and the finance charge. Where 5% of those three comes to less than the finance charge alone, the whole finance charge is added instead and only retail and cash are taken at 5%. ICICI illustrates both branches itself — a minimum of ₹11,210 on a ₹37,830 total due, and ₹21,620 on a ₹1,15,810 total due where finance charges dominate. Paying the statement in full is unaffected; the minimum rises only for people carrying a balance or taking cash.

  3. ▼ RewardObserved 17 Dec 2025 · Effective 1 Feb 2026

    Transport-category earning capped

Transport spends earned uncapped→Transport rewards capped at ₹10,000 per statement cycle

From 1 February 2026 ICICI capped the reward points earned on transport-category spends — rail, bus, taxi, tolls and similar — at ₹10,000 of spend per statement cycle on its mid- and entry-tier cards, half the ₹20,000 the Gemstone tier keeps. Spend above the cap still posts to the card, it simply stops earning. On a card whose earn rate is already thin, this is a further trim rather than a headline cut.

Airport lounge access gated behind ₹75,000/quarter spend

    ₹35,000/quarter spend (₹5,000 earlier)→₹75,000/quarter spend

ICICI's system-wide November 2024 restructure more than doubled the spend needed to unlock the Coral's complimentary domestic airport lounge visit — from ₹35,000 in the previous quarter (itself raised from ₹5,000 in April 2024) to ₹75,000 — putting the perk out of reach for the light spenders the entry card targets. The 1 railway-lounge visit per quarter stayed unconditional.

  2. ▼ RewardObserved 11 Oct 2024 · Effective 15 Nov 2024

Per-cycle earning caps on utility, insurance and grocery spend

Utility, insurance and grocery spend earned without limit→Utility ₹40,000 · insurance ₹40,000 · grocery & departmental ₹20,000 per cycle (400 RP each)

ICICI's MITC caps the SPEND that accrues reward points, not the points: from 15 Nov 2024 the Coral earns on only ₹40,000 of utility spend, ₹40,000 of insurance and ₹20,000 of grocery and departmental-store spend per statement cycle. At the Coral's rates (1 RP/₹100 on utility and insurance, 2 RP/₹100 retail) that is 400 reward points in each of the three buckets, after which the category earns nothing for the rest of the cycle. The same round excluded rent, government and education spends from fee-waiver and milestone calculations and limited the fuel-surcharge waiver to ₹50,000 of fuel spend per cycle.
