If you hold this card: If you already hold the Platinum Reserve, nothing changes — Taj Epicure, Accor Plus Explorer, EazyDiner Prime, your lounge visits and Membership Rewards earning all continue as before, and the fee waiver works exactly as it did.
American Express is not accepting new card applications in India. Its own card pages carry the notice: “We are temporarily pausing the acceptance of new card applications in India as we make planned updates to our technology platforms for domestic card issuing operations.” The pause began in March 2025; the Platinum Charge and Platinum Reserve reopened in September 2025 but closed again in August 2026, so the whole American Express India line-up is now shut to new applicants.
There is no open application route for any American Express card in India right now — the Platinum Reserve (₹10,000) and the Platinum Card / Charge (₹66,000), which had been the two ways in, closed again in August 2026. Amex calls the pause temporary but has given no reopening date, so the only thing to do is wait.
Last checked 5 September 2026 against the issuer's own page. We re-check this and will lift the notice as soon as the card is open to new applicants again.
In-depth review
American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
Amex's most accessible membership card: a ₹10,000 fee (waived at ₹10 lakh spend) bundling ALL Accor Plus Explorer, Taj Epicure Plus and EazyDiner Prime, a monthly milestone voucher worth 2% of a ₹50,000 month on almost any spend (rent, fuel, taxes included), and Membership Rewards that redeem ~₹0.58/point into Taj vouchers — up to ~5% blended at exactly ₹50,000 a month, and less above it. The catch: the card's Accor membership grants 20 status nights (Silver), not the paid membership's 30 (Gold) or its free nights, and forex is 3.5%.

The 3.5% forex undercuts any travel-card framing, and the base earn is modest — the value is concentrated in memberships and milestone vouchers you must actually use. Amex acceptance gaps mean you still need a Visa/Mastercard backup.

The bottom line
If you would otherwise pay for Accor Plus or Taj Epicure, the Platinum Reserve effectively hands you both for a ₹10,000 fee that waives at ₹10 lakh of spend — among the best membership-value cards in India. Earn is ordinary at 1 MR per ₹50, but the 24K Gold Collection Taj-voucher route (~₹0.58/point) and the bundled memberships carry it. Pair it with a transfer card like the HSBC TravelOne and you get status from one and redemption from the other.
How this page was built
Counted from this card’s own record: 2 earn rules, 1 of them capped, 1 paid only at named merchants, the spends listed as earning nothing and 6 recorded perks. The renewal fee is conditional — it is waived on a published spend target, so the fee you pay depends on what you spend.

Accor ALL Status & AccorPlus 2026: The Tiers, the ₹23,199 Explorer Membership, and the Card-Gifted Shortcut
Accor's transfer value is only half the programme — the other half is status. This is the companion to our Accor transfer guide: how the five tiers (plus invite-only Limitless) actually qualify, why the +24/48/76/100% bonuses and the 2.5→5.0 pts/€ earning rates are one system not two, and the membership products that hand you instant status. The ₹23,199 ALL Accor+ Explorer buys Gold and free nights; the Amex Platinum Reserve/Charge gift you a card-bundled version that reaches Silver but drops the free nights. Plus Accor→airline transfer ratios, and the gray-area Brazil/China arbitrage — flagged honestly as edge-cases.
HSBC Taj Credit Card
India's first super-premium Taj/IHCL co-brand: a ₹1,10,000 fee answered by an annual Taj voucher package reissued at every renewal, Taj InnerCircle NeuPass Platinum status, and 8 NeuCoins plus 5 reward points per ₹100 at Taj hotels. A loyalty instrument for committed Taj guests — not a card to swipe abroad at 3.5% forex.
American Express Centurion Card
The Black Card — invitation-only, roughly 200 holders in India, and about ₹11.5 lakh all-in in year one including GST. Judged on rewards per rupee it is poor value and nobody serious pretends otherwise. Judged on what it actually sells — dedicated concierge, top-tier hotel and airline status, unlimited Centurion Lounge access — it is in a category of one. You cannot apply for it.
Amex to Virgin Atlantic at 5:4: The Best Exit Membership Rewards Has in India
On 18 August 2026 American Express India moved Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club from 2:1 to 5:4, so 800 MR now becomes 640 Virgin Points instead of 400. At our baseline valuations that puts Virgin at about ₹0.80 per MR against ₹0.60 for Marriott Bonvoy and ₹0.50 for every other airline on the Amex menu, making it the best exit Membership Rewards currently has. This guide works through the arithmetic route by route, shows why Virgin's own seats cannot be planned against at all (a live Delhi–London search ran from 6,000 points to 76,000 depending only on the date), and is straight about the one thing Amex has not put in writing: the change carries no end date and no promotional labelling, which points to a permanent repricing, but Amex has not said so outright.

- ▼ FeeEffective 15 Nov 2026
Late payment fee set on the total amount due
30% of the minimum amount due, ₹500 to ₹1,000→Slabs on the total amount due, ₹500 to ₹1,250
On statements generated after 15 November 2026, the late payment fee on American Express's credit cards is set by slabs of the total amount due, from ₹500 to ₹1,250, instead of 30% of the minimum amount due within ₹500 to ₹1,000. It is charged when nothing, or less than the minimum amount due, is paid by the due date. Amex says the change brings the fee in line with RBI requirements and refers members to its updated MITC, effective 15 November, for the slabs. Amex's charge cards are not affected.

- ▼ RedemptionEffective 15 Nov 2026
Membership Rewards points kept separately for each card
One points balance across all your basic cards→A separate balance for each card; points cannot be moved between cards
From 15 November 2026, a member who holds two or more basic American Express cards has a separate Membership Rewards balance on each card, where today the points of all of them sit in one account. Existing points are split by the card that earned them, each card redeems from its own balance, and moving points from one card to another ends for good. Earn rates, redemption options and the value of a point do not change. A member who combined several cards' points to reach a bigger redemption now has to reach it on one card's balance.
Verification: American Express ↗ · Confidence: High
- ◆ MilestoneEffective 15 Nov 2026
Milestone spend counted by posting date
Spend counted by purchase date→Spend counted by posting date; bonus by the end of that month
From 15 November 2026, spend towards a milestone counts on the date a transaction posts to the card rather than the date of the purchase, and the bonus points or voucher are credited by the end of the calendar month in which the milestone is reached. A purchase made on 30 November that posts in December counts towards December. Regular earning does not change, and bonuses already earned stay. A member aiming for a monthly milestone near the end of a month should allow a few days for purchases to post.
Verification: American Express ↗ · Confidence: High
- ▼ BenefitEffective 15 Nov 2026
New Account Cards no longer issued
New Account Cards available on request→No new Account Cards; existing ones keep working
From 15 November 2026 American Express stops issuing new Account Cards, the extra cards in a member's own name used to keep certain spends separate. Requests, including replacements for a lost, stolen or expired Account Card, are taken until 27 October, and an application started by then is completed by 3 November. An Account Card already issued keeps working.
Verification: American Express ↗ · Confidence: High
- ◆ RewardEffective 15 Nov 2026
Points paused on a card still overdue at its next statement
No redemptions on any card while one is overdue→No earning or redemption on that card from its next statement until paid
From 15 November 2026, if a payment is still due when a card's next statement is generated, that card stops earning and redeeming Membership Rewards points from that statement date until the overdue balance is paid. Points already earned stay, and the member's other cards carry on, since each keeps its own balance. Amex's current Membership Rewards terms already forfeit the points of a statement left unpaid by the due date (reinstatable for a fee) and block redemptions on every card while any one is overdue; the new page does not say whether the forfeiture clause stays. Paying the overdue amount before the next statement date avoids the pause.
