IndianOil Axis Bank Credit Card

The IndianOil Axis Bank card earns 4% value back at IndianOil outlets — 20 EDGE points per ₹100 on fuel between ₹400 and ₹4,000, on up to ₹5,000 of eligible fuel spend a month — plus 5 EDGE points per ₹100 (1%) on online spends and 1 point per ₹100 elsewhere. A 1% fuel surcharge waiver (cap ₹50/cycle) and up to 1,250 welcome points round it out. The ₹500 fee waives only at ₹3.5 lakh of annual spend, which is hard to reach on fuel alone — so don't bank on the card being free. Its EDGE points feed the wider Axis ecosystem rather than being locked to fuel, which is flexible, but HDFC's IndianOil card earns more at the same pumps.

IndianOil Axis Bank Credit Card

Does the standard IOCL fuel-card job — 4% on petrol at India's largest pump network — but with a twist: you earn flexible EDGE points, not fuel-locked ones, so the rewards can feed Axis's wider ecosystem. Useful if you already bank with Axis. On raw fuel value, HDFC's IndianOil card earns more on the same pumps, so pick by which matters to you.

The concern

HDFC's IndianOil card earns more on the same pumps — choose this only if the Axis EDGE ecosystem matters to you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fuel earn rate?
20 EDGE points per ₹100 at IndianOil (IOCL) — effective 4% value in EDGE Reward Points. This card waives the 1% fuel surcharge, capped at ₹50 — the waiver offsets the surcharge itself, separate from any rewards the fuel spend earns. Figures as of October 2026.
Does this card include airport lounge access?
None — the standard IndianOil Axis card has no airport lounge access (that is a benefit of the separate IndianOil Axis Premium card).
What is the annual fee waiver?
₹3.5 lakh annual spend — high for a ₹500 fee card. Fuel-only users may not hit this threshold. The renewal fee is ₹500 plus 18% GST — ₹590 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹3,50,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹29,167 a month. Figures as of October 2026.
Can EDGE points be transferred to airlines?
Not from this card. Airline transfers run only on the higher Axis cards (Magnus, Reserve, Select, Privilege, Rewards, Burgundy Private); here the EDGE Reward Points go to fuel, vouchers and the EDGE catalogue. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 1% on online shopping (rewards capped at ₹50 a month in that category), against 0.2% on other spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. It reaches 4% at Indian Oil (IOCL), and only there. Figures as of October 2026.
How will Axis apply my payment across the outstanding balance from 28 August 2026?
From 28 August 2026 Axis clears a credit card payment in this order — fees and charges including taxes, then EMIs, then interest charges, then purchase transactions, and cash advances last. That swaps the final two: the order it replaced cleared cash advances fourth and purchases last. It only bites if you pay less than the full statement balance, because a part-payment now settles purchases before it reaches a cash advance — and Axis charges interest on a cash advance from the day of withdrawal, with no interest-free period, so the costliest balance is the one left outstanding longest. Paying the statement balance in full makes the order irrelevant.

Best Fuel Credit Cards in India 2026: Top Picks for HPCL, BPCL and IndianOil

The best fuel credit cards in India return roughly 4–8.5% on petrol and diesel through reward acceleration plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver. This guide names the best card for each pump — IndianOil, HPCL, BPCL — and, if you have no preferred pump, the brand-agnostic cards that still pay on fuel.

10 min→

IndianOil Axis Bank Premium Credit Card

The premium tier of the IndianOil Axis fuel card — the same effective ~4% on IOCL fuel as the base card, but with a ₹30,000 fee waiver (versus a steep ₹3.5 lakh), grocery rewards, up to 8 domestic lounge visits and a Zomato discount. A ₹1,000 card that, at roughly two tanks a month, effectively never charges its fee.

→

IndianOil HDFC Bank Credit Card

A boring, effective, single-purpose fuel card — ~5% back as Fuel Points at IOCL outlets (India's largest pump network), plus 5% on groceries and bills, for a ₹500 fee that waives almost automatically. The keys to full value: redeem Fuel Points as fuel via IXRP (96 paise vs 20 paise elsewhere) and respect the monthly caps. For the IOCL commuter, it's the obvious, low-stakes choice.

→

BPCL RBL Bank SuperCard

A fuel-and-flexibility card that's honest about what makes it worth holding — not the fuel rate, which the SBI Octane out-earns on the same BPCL pumps, but the SuperCard family's cash-withdrawal and flexible-repayment features that ordinary credit cards simply don't offer. A fair, cheap card for the RBL customer who actually uses those cash tricks alongside a BPCL fill-up habit.

Dynamic currency conversion markup more than doubles to 3.5%

    1.5% + GST→3.5% + GST

Axis Bank raised the dynamic currency conversion mark-up from 1.5% to 3.5% plus GST. DCC applies when an overseas merchant offers to bill you in rupees instead of the local currency, and it stacks on top of the usual foreign-currency mark-up. Declining the rupee option at the terminal and paying in the local currency avoids the charge entirely.

New top late-payment slab of Rs 1,300 above Rs 50,000

Rs 1,200 on any total payment due above Rs 10,000→Rs 1,200 from Rs 10,001 to Rs 50,000; Rs 1,300 above Rs 50,000

Axis Bank added a fifth late-payment slab. Everything up to Rs 50,000 is unchanged, but a total payment due of more than Rs 50,000 now attracts Rs 1,300 instead of Rs 1,200. The same notice fixes the order in which a payment is applied to the outstanding: fees and charges including taxes first, then EMIs, interest, purchases and cash advances.

  3. ▼ RewardObserved 29 Jul 2026 · Effective 28 Aug 2026

Tolls and road fees stop earning rewards; gift cards split into their own category

Bridge fees, road fees and tolls earned at the normal rate→No rewards or cashback on bridge fees, road fees and tolls

Axis Bank added bridge fees, road fees and tolls to the spends that earn nothing. Separately, gift card purchases move out of the Wallet spend category into a new Gift Card category; they already earned no rewards, and they continue to be excluded from spend-based fee waivers and milestone thresholds.

2024

  1. ▼ FeeEffective 20 Dec 2024

Portfolio-wide charges revision — EDGE fees introduced, finance charge standardised

No EDGE redemption or partner-conversion fee; 3.60%/month finance charge; DCC markup 1%; ₹100 branch cash payment; 1% rent surcharge capped at ₹1,500 per transaction→₹99 per EDGE redemption and ₹199 per partner conversion; 3.75%/month finance charge; DCC markup 1.5%; ₹175 branch cash payment; 1% rent surcharge uncapped; new 1% fees on wallet loads over ₹10,000, fuel over ₹50,000 and utilities over ₹25,000 per statement cycle

Axis repriced its whole card book on 20 December 2024 and the IndianOil Axis Bank Credit Card is carved out of none of it — checked item by item against Axis's own Key Fact Sheet / Schedule of Charges, which prints this card at 55.55% p.a. (3.75%/month, up from 3.60%) and names it in no exemption list. The carve-out that exists nearby is for a different card: Axis exempted the INDIANOIL AXIS BANK PREMIUM from the ₹99 EDGE redemption and ₹199 partner-conversion fees, and this one pays both. The new 1% fee on fuel spends above ₹50,000 in a statement cycle is the item that bites a fuel co-brand hardest — it is a separate charge from the 1% fuel surcharge Axis refunds at authorised IndianOil outlets, and it is not refunded. DCC markup went 1% to 1.5% (nil only for Primus, Burgundy Private and Olympus), branch cash payment ₹100 to ₹175 (waived only for Burgundy Private, Primus and Insta Easy), and the 1% rent surcharge lost its ₹1,500 per-transaction cap (nil only for Olympus and Primus). New 1% fees landed on wallet loads above ₹10,000, fuel above ₹50,000 and utilities above ₹25,000 per statement cycle.

Fuel txns ₹100–₹5,000 eligible; no explicit monthly points cap→Fuel txns ₹400–₹4,000 eligible; max 1,000 EDGE points/statement month

The 20-points-per-₹100 accelerated fuel earn was tightened on both ends: only IOCL fuel transactions between ₹400 and ₹4,000 now qualify (was ₹100–₹5,000), and accelerated points are capped at 1,000 EDGE points per statement month — roughly ₹5,000 of eligible fuel spend before the earn falls back to base.
