In-depth review
Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card
India's only Marriott co-brand, and it earns its keep off one benefit: the annual Free Night Award (now top-up-able to ~40,000-point hotels) more than covers the ₹3,000 fee. The everyday earn is poor and it's on Diners — but if you'll spend even a single night at a Marriott this year, it's a must-have. If you never do, skip it.

Other: 2 Marriott Bonvoy points per ₹150 on all other eligible spends
Groceries: 2 points per ₹150 on grocery, but earning stops above ₹1.5 lakh of grocery spend in a month
Earns nothing on: Fuel · Rent · Government & Tax · Wallet Loads · Online Gaming · Cash Advances · Gift Cards & Vouchers · SmartEMI and Dial-an-EMI conversions
These spends earn no rewards at all — not a reduced rate, and not the base rate. They are also normally left out of any milestone or fee-waiver calculation.

How to redeem rewards
Ways to convert what you earn into real value.
- 🎁Redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for free hotel nights worldwide (best value)
- 🎁Use the annual Free Night Award (up to 15,000 points)
- 🎁Transfer points to airline partners or redeem for experiences
What your Marriott Bonvoy Points are worth
Realistic value per point by redemption route — the difference is what most people leave on the table.
₹0.60 per point at typical Indian reward-night pricing; hotel programme, not an issuer catalogue
The ongoing earn (2 points per ₹150 — about 1.3% in points, and under 1% in rupee value) is weak for a hotel co-brand; the card leans almost entirely on the free-night award and status perks.

The bottom line
Even a single Marriott night a year makes the annual Free Night Award beat the ₹3,000 fee — everything else is gravy. As an everyday card the earn is too thin to justify the slot. A specialist that excels at its specialty.

HDFC Diners Club Black Metal Edition
Infinia-grade SmartBuy earning, unlimited worldwide lounges, and a perk stack (Club Marriott, Swiggy One, Amazon Prime) that erases the ₹10,000 fee on its own — once you unlock it, which takes ₹1.5 lakh of net retail spend in the first 90 days. Available to anyone who can clear the spend, no invitation needed. The one catch is Diners Club acceptance, so carry a Visa backup. For high spenders, it's the best openly applicable premium card in India.
Marriott Bonvoy Points Transfer Guide 2026: Which Indian Cards Transfer and How
Amex Membership Rewards and HSBC TravelOne are the two Indian currencies that feed Marriott Bonvoy directly, both at 1:1, with HDFC reward points a distant third at 2:1 (Infinia/Diners Black) or 3:1 (Regalia Gold). Amex has occasionally run a Marriott transfer bonus, but it is rare and never guaranteed — the standing 1:1 is the value. This guide covers every transfer route, how the Amex transfer works, why you cannot move Bonvoy to Accor, and when a hotel transfer beats keeping the points.
HSBC Taj Credit Card
India's first super-premium Taj/IHCL co-brand: a ₹1,10,000 fee answered by an annual Taj voucher package reissued at every renewal, Taj InnerCircle NeuPass Platinum status, and 8 NeuCoins plus 5 reward points per ₹100 at Taj hotels. A loyalty instrument for committed Taj guests — not a card to swipe abroad at 3.5% forex.
Standard Chartered Emirates World Mastercard
For years this was the only Indian credit card that earned Emirates Skywards miles on everyday spend — a sharp single-purpose specialist for the India–Dubai loyalist. That chapter closed on 31 March 2022, when the SC–Emirates partnership ended: the card stopped earning miles from 1 April 2022, its lounge, golf and Priority Pass benefits were withdrawn, and holders were migrated to non-Emirates SC cards. This review stands as the archival record of what the card was.
Air India SBI Platinum Credit Card
A card caught mid-transformation — closed to new applications for an extended period, with the loyalty programme underneath it completely rebuilt (Flying Returns gone, Maharaja Club in) and a refreshed co-brand reportedly in development to replace it. For existing holders who fly Air India, a reasonable hold while the programme stabilises. For everyone else, the smart move is to wait for the new card.
American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
Amex's most accessible membership card: a ₹10,000 fee (waived at ₹10 lakh spend) bundling ALL Accor Plus Explorer, Taj Epicure Plus and EazyDiner Prime, a monthly milestone voucher worth 2% of a ₹50,000 month on almost any spend (rent, fuel, taxes included), and Membership Rewards that redeem ~₹0.58/point into Taj vouchers — up to ~5% blended at exactly ₹50,000 a month, and less above it. The catch: the card's Accor membership grants 20 status nights (Silver), not the paid membership's 30 (Gold) or its free nights, and forex is 3.5%.
Credit-Card Points Transfer Bonuses in India 2026: Where the Extra 20–30% Is — and the Hotel-to-Hotel Transfers That Don't Exist
Transfer bonuses are the one time your bank points buy more than their standing rate — but they live on the program side, and only the right card can feed them. This guide explains what a transfer bonus actually is, the recurring Amex→Marriott and Accor promotions Indian cardholders chase, why you can't move Marriott points to Accor (or any hotel program to another), which Indian card feeds which program in 2026, how long transfers take, and the ratio trap that makes people overvalue a card on a rate that only shows up a few weeks a year.

- ▼ FeeEffective 15 May 2026
Dynamic currency conversion markup raised to 1.75%
1% markup→1.75% markup
HDFC's MITC: "Dynamic currency conversion Markup Fee: With effect from 15th May 2026, a Markup fee of 1.75% will be levied on all transactions carried out in Indian Currency at an international location or at merchants which are located in India but registered overseas." This is separate from, and stacks on top of, the card's ordinary foreign-currency markup. It is the charge you pay for accepting a terminal's offer to bill you in rupees while abroad - always decline that offer and pay in the local currency. It also catches India-based purchases from merchants registered overseas, which is easy to trigger without leaving the country. The PIXEL MITC dates the same change 17 May 2026.

Marriott Bonvoy raised the number of points members can add to a Free Night Award certificate from 15,000 to 25,000, a program-wide change that applies to the card's welcome and renewal Free Night Awards. In practice the card's up-to-15,000-point certificate now stretches to hotels priced around 40,000 points a night, meaningfully widening where a single Free Night can be used.

1% fee added on rent, wallet loads and online gaming
No category surcharge on rent, wallet loads or gaming→1% on rent (cap Rs 4,999 per transaction); 1% on wallet loads and on online skill-based gaming above Rs 10,000 a calendar month (cap Rs 4,999 a month)
HDFC's MITC: "Rent Pay Transactions: W.e.f. 1st July 2025, 1% fee on transaction amount will be levied on rental transactions... Fee capped at Rs 4999 per transaction"; "Wallet Loading (excl PayZapp) - W.e.f. 1st July 2025, 1% fee will be levied on Wallet loading spends exceeding Rs 10,000 in a calendar month"; "Online Skill based Gaming - W.e.f. 1st July 2025, 1% fee... exceeding Rs 10,000 in a calendar month". These are charges on top of the fact that most HDFC cards already earn zero reward points on the same categories - you pay to spend, and earn nothing for it. PayZapp wallet loads are exempt from the wallet fee.

No surcharge on utility or education payments→1% on utility spends above Rs 50,000 a calendar month (cap Rs 4,999 a month); 1% on education paid through third-party apps
HDFC's MITC: "Utility Charges: 1% fee will be levied on utility spends exceeding Rs 50,000 per Calendar month for consumer cards... Fee capped at Rs 4999 per month"; "Education Charges: 1% fee... on Education transactions done through third party applications like (but not limited to) CRED, Nobroker, Cheq etc." Paying school or college fees DIRECTLY to the institution is not charged - only routing them through a third-party app is. A 1% fee also applies to fuel transactions above Rs 15,000.

Insurance reward points capped, online gaming stops earning
Insurance uncapped on most cards; online skill-based gaming earned points→Insurance capped at 2,000 reward points a month (5,000 on Diners Black, 10,000 on Infinia); online skill-based gaming earns nothing
HDFC's MITC: "With effect from 1st July 2025, Reward Points accrued for insurance transactions will have a maximum cap of... 2000 per month for all other credit cards" and "With effect from 1st July 2025, Online Skill-Based gaming transactions will not earn Reward Points/CashPoints on all the cards." Insurance premiums are a common way to hit a milestone quickly, so the cap matters more than its size suggests.
