slice UPI Credit Card

slice is a UPI-first credit card issued by slice Small Finance Bank (formed from slice's merger with North East Small Finance Bank), built around paying by UPI and building credit history. It is open only to customers who have first opened slice's digital savings account, which is also where your cashback is paid. It is lifetime-free, links to any UPI app, and earns cashback as "Monies" on QR-code spends — even very small ones, which suits real Indian spending. The realistic earn is about 1%: slice advertises "up to 3%," but that top rate requires very large balances (around ₹5 lakh in unredeemed Monies and ₹5 lakh average balance), so most people should treat it as a ~1% free UPI card. Two genuine standouts: zero forex markup on international spends (which save the markup but earn no Monies), and "slice in 3," which splits a purchase of ₹2,000 or more into two or three interest-free instalments (a sliced purchase earns no Monies). Post-merger it reports as a proper unsecured credit card to CIBIL, making it one of the better first cards for building a score.

In-depth review

slice UPI Credit Card

slice is a lifetime-free, UPI-first RuPay credit card — and after slice's merger with North East Small Finance Bank it is now a proper unsecured credit card issued by a licensed small finance bank, reporting cleanly to CIBIL. That makes it one of the better first cards for building a score. It earns cashback ('Monies') on everyday QR scans, carries zero forex on international online spends, and includes a built-in pay-in-3. The realistic earn is ~1%; the advertised 'up to 3%' needs balances most people won't hold.

What this card is built to do — the highlights that actually matter.

💰

1% on Other

1% base cashback (monies) on eligible spends including UPI/QR. The redemption rate is banded on your monies balance — 1% up to ₹3L, 1.5% to ₹5L, 2% above ₹5L, and 3% only with BOTH ₹5L in monies and a ₹5L average quarterly balance — so essentially everyone earns the 1% band

🌍

Zero Forex Markup — but no rewards abroad

No markup on international spends, but they earn nothing on this card, so a purchase abroad costs no extra and returns nothing.

The concern

The advertised "up to 3%" needs roughly ₹5 lakh in unredeemed Monies and ₹5 lakh average balance, so the real everyday earn is ~1% — fine for a free first card, not a rewards engine.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use slice on UPI?
Yes — slice is a RuPay card built for UPI; link it to PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm and pay by scanning QR codes, even at small merchants, earning cashback (Monies) on those spends.
Is the slice card lifetime free?
Yes — no joining or annual fee, ever.
What is slice in 3?
"slice in 3" lets you split a purchase of ₹2,000 or more into two or three monthly instalments, with no interest or fee. The trade-off is that a sliced purchase earns no Monies, and closing it early costs 3.5% of the outstanding principal.
Do I need a slice savings account to get the card?
Yes. slice's cardmember agreement makes the card available only to customers who have opened its digital savings account, and your Monies are paid out as cash into that account.
Does slice earn cashback on international spends?
No. The zero forex markup is real, so you avoid the markup most cards add, but slice's terms exclude international transactions from Monies, so those spends earn nothing back. This card charges no foreign-currency markup — a ₹1,00,000 overseas bill converts at the network exchange rate with ₹0 in markup fees, where a typical Indian card adds 2–3.5% plus GST. Figures as of September 2026.
What cashback does it actually earn?
~1% in everyday use. The advertised "up to 3%" requires roughly ₹5 lakh in unredeemed Monies and ₹5 lakh average balance held at the same time, which most users will not meet. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 1% on everyday spends — percentages here are cashback as a share of spend, credited to the statement with no points to convert. Figures as of September 2026.
Does it help build credit?
Yes — since the merger with North East Small Finance Bank it reports as a proper unsecured credit card to the credit bureaus, so it helps build your CIBIL score.

Kiwi RuPay Credit Card

Kiwi is a lifetime-free RuPay card built to earn cashback when you scan a UPI QR code in the Kiwi app — one of the few cards that pays on the small everyday payments most cards ignore. The catch every reader needs upfront: the free card earns roughly 1–1.5%, and the advertised 'up to 5%' is not free. It needs the paid Kiwi Neon tier (₹999 plus GST a year), which Kiwi offers only to select YES and AU cardholders, plus ₹1.5 lakh of spend in the membership year. Judge it as a ~1% free UPI card unless you spend heavily.
