YES Bank Zagg Credit Card

Zagg (formerly Rio) is an app-first, lifetime-free RuPay credit card built for UPI scan-and-pay. Read its headline carefully: Zagg's own rewards policy says "3% of the transaction amount will be credited as Zagg Coins" — that is a coin count, not a rupee value, and **a Zagg Coin is ₹0.25** (4 coins make ₹1). So ₹100 through Zagg UPI earns 3 coins worth ₹0.75, an effective **0.75%**. Coins come only from UPI payments made with this card through the Zagg app, at larger merchants and on transactions of ₹50 or more. Bharat QR and mandate payments do not count, and card swipes, contactless taps, online card payments and UPI through other apps earn nothing. Each cycle you can earn no more than coins equal to 1.5% of your credit limit, and you redeem them straight to your bank account. Fuel, utilities, insurance, education, rent and government spends earn nothing. The card also carries domestic airport lounge access, but it is conditional: 2 visits a quarter for the primary cardholder, unlocked by ₹50,000 of spend in the previous calendar quarter, which is ₹2 lakh a year to keep it running. Existing YES Bank credit cardholders cannot apply. Zagg also issues cards through AU Small Finance Bank and PNB; those are separate products with their own rates, and this entry is the YES Bank Zagg.

Judge it on the lounge access, not the rate, and only if you will clear the gate. "Up to 3%" is 3 Zagg Coins per ₹100 and a coin is ₹0.25, so the real return is about 0.75%, below a plain 1% cashback card, and it is paid only on UPI payments made through the Zagg app. The lounge access is conditional: 2 domestic visits a quarter, and only after ₹50,000 of spend in the previous quarter, which is ₹2 lakh a year. If you already spend that on one card and fly domestically, a lifetime-free card that adds up to 8 lounge visits a year earns a place in a wallet. If you do not, it is a 0.75% UPI card with little else to offer.

The concern

The advertised 3% is a coin count, not a rate. Zagg credits coins equal to 3% of the amount and a Zagg Coin is ₹0.25, so the real return is roughly 0.75%, and only on UPI through the Zagg app. The lounge visits are not automatic either, because they need ₹50,000 of spend in the previous quarter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Zagg card on UPI?
Yes. It is a RuPay card and works on UPI, but only UPI payments made through the Zagg app earn Zagg Coins, and Bharat QR and mandate payments do not count. Pay through another UPI app and you earn nothing.
Is the Zagg card lifetime free?
Yes for cards issued from 10 January 2025, which carry no joining or annual fee on the YES Bank Zagg card. Cards issued before that date, as the YES Bank Rio card, keep a ₹399 annual fee that YES waives on ₹1,80,000 of annual spend.
Is the Zagg card really 3% back?
Zagg's rewards policy credits coins equal to 3% of the transaction amount — but that is a coin count, and a Zagg Coin is worth ₹0.25. So ₹100 spent through Zagg UPI earns 3 coins worth ₹0.75, an effective 0.75%. It applies only to UPI payments of ₹50 or more made through the Zagg app, and other spends earn nothing.
How are Zagg Coins redeemed?
From the Zagg app, straight to your bank account; Zagg's FAQ says 4 Zagg Coins equal ₹1. Coins earned in a statement cycle are capped at 1.5% of your credit limit, and a transaction must be at least ₹50 to earn.
Which bank issues the Zagg card?
This card is issued by YES Bank in partnership with the Zagg app (formerly Rio). Zagg also offers separate cards through AU Small Finance Bank and PNB.
Can existing YES Bank credit cardholders get the Zagg card?
No. YES Bank's Zagg page says existing YES BANK credit cardholders are not eligible for this card. Other applicants need to be 21 to 60 and salaried or self-employed, with a net salary of at least ₹25,000 a month.
