Unity Bank BharatPe Credit Card

The Unity Bank BharatPe Credit Card is a lifetime-free RuPay card from Unity Small Finance Bank and BharatPe that turns each bill of ₹1,000+ into an EMI. BharatPe sells it as an EMI-driven card, and that is literal: on each bill date the card converts the month's purchases into EMIs whenever they add up to ₹1,000 or more, at 24% a year (2% a month on the reducing balance), over a tenure of up to 12 months that you pick in the BharatPe app. Paying the whole statement on the due date does not undo the conversion, because the 15-to-48-day interest-free period does not apply to EMI-converted spends. The only way to skip it is to prepay all unbilled spends at least a day before the bill is generated. Rewards follow the same rule: 2% as Zillion Coins on the billed spend, paid out as each EMI is repaid and forfeited on anything you foreclose, with no cap or category exclusions. Prepaid spend earns nothing, while a bill under ₹1,000 is billed in full and earns 2%. On Unity's own example, a ₹9,000 bill over three EMIs carries about ₹362 of interest plus GST against ₹180 in coins, and since the first month's interest alone is 2% of the bill, the coins never cover the cost of earning them. The reasons to hold it are the extras: 8 domestic (2 a quarter) and 2 international RuPay lounge visits a year (not the RuPay Exclusive Lounge at Delhi T3), and one annual health check-up. Being RuPay, it links to any UPI app. Zillion Coins are worth ₹0.25 each (4 = ₹1); they redeem with Zillion's partner brands or against the card bill in the BharatPe app, up to ₹5,000 worth a billing cycle, and stay valid for three years from the transaction.

A lifetime-free RuPay card that works as a revolving EMI line. Every bill of ₹1,000 or more becomes a 24%-a-year EMI unless you prepay before the statement, and the 2% in Zillion Coins is paid only on that converted spend, so the first month's interest alone matches the reward before GST is added. As a rewards card it costs more than it returns. What it does offer, free, is 8 domestic and 2 international RuPay lounge visits a year and a health check-up, which make it worth holding for a reader who wants EMIs anyway, or who will prepay every cycle and treat the lounges as the benefit.

The concern

Every bill of ₹1,000 or more is converted to an EMI at 24% a year on the bill date, even if you pay the full statement on the due date; the only way out is to prepay all unbilled spends a day before the bill generates, and prepaid spend earns no Zillion Coins.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the BharatPe card on UPI?
Yes — it is a RuPay card; link it to BharatPe, PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm or any UPI app and pay by scanning QR codes.
Is the BharatPe card lifetime free?
Yes — zero joining fee, zero annual fee, zero processing and zero foreclosure charges. The cost is the EMI interest, 24% a year on every bill of ₹1,000 or more that you do not prepay before it is generated.
How do the 2% rewards work?
You earn 2% as Zillion Coins on each month's billed spend, with no cap or category exclusions. A bill of ₹1,000 or more is converted to EMI at 24% a year on the bill date, and its coins are paid as each EMI is repaid (foreclosing forfeits the rest); a bill under ₹1,000 is paid in full and also earns 2%. Spend you prepay before the bill generates earns nothing. Four coins are worth ₹1 and redeem with Zillion's partner brands or against the card bill in the BharatPe app, up to ₹5,000 worth a billing cycle; they are valid for three years.
Can I avoid the EMI interest?
Only by prepaying. Pay all unbilled spends at least a day before the bill is generated and nothing converts, but that spend earns no Zillion Coins. Paying the full statement on the due date does not help, because the conversion happens on the bill date and the interest-free period does not apply to EMI-converted spends. Bills under ₹1,000 are never converted.
Which bank issues the BharatPe card?
The card is issued by Unity Small Finance Bank in a co-branding partnership with BharatPe (Resilient Innovations).
What do Unity and BharatPe ask of applicants?
Unity asks for an age of 21 to 65 and an annual income of at least ₹2.5 lakh if you are salaried or ₹5 lakh if you are self-employed. You apply through the BharatPe app.

Unity Bank BharatPe Credit Card launched

BharatPe and Unity Small Finance Bank launched the Unity Bank BharatPe Credit Card, pitched as India's first EMI-driven credit card. It is a lifetime-free RuPay card (zero joining, annual, processing and foreclosure fees) that links to UPI. Each month's purchases of ₹1,000 or more are converted into EMIs on the bill date at 24% a year, over up to 12 months, unless they are prepaid before the bill is generated. The card pays a flat 2% as Zillion Coins on billed spend as those EMIs are repaid, with no cap or category exclusions, and a bill under ₹1,000 is paid in full and also earns 2%. Unity's terms show that until 13 August 2025 the rate had been tiered by bill size (nothing under ₹1,000, 1% up to ₹9,999, 2% above). Coins redeem with Zillion's partner brands or against the card bill in the BharatPe app.
