ICICI Bank Rubyx Credit Card

ICICI Rubyx is a dual-network card — you get both a Visa/Mastercard and an Amex on one account, which means two lounge programmes, two offer ecosystems, golf and concierge on a single bill for ₹2,000 a year (waivable at ₹3 lakh). That perk bundle is the genuine draw; the rewards are middling — 2 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 domestic (~0.5% at about ₹0.25/point) and 4 RP per ₹100 international (~1%), plus milestone points (3,000 RP at ₹3 lakh, then +1,500 per ₹1 lakh, up to 15,000/year). Utility and insurance spends earn at half that — 1 RP per ₹100 — and government payments are billed as utilities, so they earn at the same halved rate rather than nothing. Since Nov 2024 those categories are also capped per statement cycle — ₹80,000 of utility spend, ₹80,000 of insurance and ₹40,000 of grocery, each worth 800 points, after which they earn nothing until the cycle turns. Lounge access runs 2 domestic visits a quarter on ₹75,000 of prior-quarter spend plus 8 railway visits a year, with golf rounds tied to monthly retail spend. The 2026 ICICI devaluation added spend gates and exclusions (BookMyShow at ₹25k/quarter, transport capped, fuel, rent and wallet loads dropped). Lean on the Visa side for everyday acceptance and buy it for the lounges, not the earn.

Rubyx's dual-network trick is more useful than it sounds: two lounge programmes, two sets of offers, one bill, and it earns its keep as a mid-tier travel-lite card. But the rewards are mediocre (~0.5% base), the 2026 devaluation added gates and exclusions, and Amex acceptance gaps blunt half the dual-network appeal — so price it on the lounges.

The concern

The core earn is just ~0.5%, the 2026 gates/exclusions bite, and patchy Amex acceptance undercuts the headline dual-network benefit.

Frequently asked questions

How does dual Visa + Amex network work?
You get two physical cards — a Visa and an Amex. Use Visa where Amex is not accepted. Both run on the same account and earn into the same ICICI Reward Points balance.
Is there lounge access on both networks?
Yes — Visa network gives access to domestic lounges; Amex gives access to select international Amex Centurion lounges. As per the card's current benefit schedule: 2 domestic airport lounge visits a quarter, unlocked by ₹75,000 of spend in the preceding quarter, plus 2 railway lounge visits a quarter. Figures as of October 2026.
How does the movie benefit work?
None are free. You get 25% off, capped at ₹150 a booking, twice a month each on BookMyShow and INOX — and only if you spent ₹25,000 or more in the preceding quarter. Realistically that is worth a few hundred rupees a quarter, not the price of a ticket.
What earns 2X?
International spends — 4 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 against the 2 RP per ₹100 domestic base. There are no separate dining, entertainment or grocery accelerators on this card; grocery earns the same 2 RP per ₹100, and is capped at 800 points a statement cycle. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 1% on international, against 0.5% on other spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. Figures as of October 2026.
Are reward points capped on any category?
Yes. Since Nov 2024 ICICI caps reward points per statement cycle — utility and insurance at 800 points each (₹80,000 of spend apiece at the halved 1 RP rate) and grocery and departmental stores at 800 points (₹40,000 of spend at the 2 RP retail rate). Government payments count against the utility cap, because ICICI bills them as utilities.
Is the dual-network feature genuinely useful?
At some airports, one network's lounge is full while the other is not. The dual card solves this at no additional cost.

How did the ICICI Bank Rubyx Credit Card change in 2026?

The biggest single change: before 1 March 2026 it was 5% of the outstanding amount, plus instalments, the over-limit amount, fee GST and any unpaid previous MAD; from then on, 100% of GST, EMI principal and interest, fees, the over-limit amount and unpaid MAD, plus 5% of retail spends, cash advances and the finance charge — the finance charge taken in full whenever that 5% falls short of it. The bottom line

ICICI Bank Rubyx Credit Card

A dual-network card (Visa/Mastercard + Amex) that gives you two lounge programmes, two offer ecosystems, golf and concierge on one bill for ₹2,000 (waivable at ₹3 lakh). The perk bundle is the genuine draw; the rewards are middling and 2026 added spend gates and exclusions. Lean on the Visa side for everyday acceptance and buy it for the lounges, not the earn.

→

ICICI Bank Sapphiro Credit Card

Still a sensible mid-premium card — modest reward points but enough lounge access for a monthly flyer, golf, and a fee that waives at ₹6 lakh. But ICICI has wrapped nearly every benefit in a spend condition: lounges have needed ₹75k/quarter since January 2025, and the 2026 devaluation added a ₹25k gate on movies and stopped several categories earning. Great for the consistent spender; frustrating for the occasional one.

→

ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card

The bank's long-standing starter card — a movie discount, modest dining earn, a quarterly lounge visit for ₹500. The 2026 ICICI-wide devaluation reached even here, gating the movie benefit behind ₹25,000 and lounge access behind ₹75,000 of quarterly spend — thresholds that the lighter spenders a starter card targets will struggle to clear. ICICI's own free Amazon Pay card out-earns it for most people.

→

MakeMyTrip ICICI Bank Credit Card

For travellers who book everything through MakeMyTrip, a quietly excellent deal — 6% myCash on MMT hotels, 3% on flights, cabs and buses, MMTBLACK Gold status and a class-leading 0.99% forex markup, all for ₹999. The card's long-running exemption from ICICI's lounge spend-gate lapsed on 30 June 2026. The catch is the co-brand one: your value lives inside MMT, and the platform's pricing can quietly erode it. Superb if you book MMT anyway; a trap if you price-shop.

→

Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card

The Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card was a cricket co-brand for CSK fans — complimentary home-match tickets, player meet-and-greets, autographed memorabilia and 10 reward points per ₹100 on match days. ICICI has since closed it to new applicants. Existing holders keep everything; the base earn was only ~0.5% and the movie and lounge perks are now spend-gated, so the fan experiences were always the real point. New customers should pick an active ICICI card instead.

→

ICICI Bank Expressions Credit Card

A customisable-design starter card: you pick the card face, and it earns 3 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 on retail (~0.75% at ₹0.25/point) — a touch better than the 2-point Coral. It carries the usual ICICI starter kit for a ₹499 fee that waives at ₹1.5 lakh, but the lounge and movie perks now sit behind ₹75,000 and ₹25,000 quarterly spend gates, and ICICI's free Amazon Pay card still out-earns it for most people.

    BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated

Complimentary→Requires ₹25,000 spend in previous quarter

From 1 Apr 2026 the Rubyx's BookMyShow movie-ticket benefit is unlocked only if the cardholder spent at least ₹25,000 in the preceding quarter — a shift from an unconditional perk to a spend-gated one.

Minimum Amount Due rebuilt as a two-branch formula

5% of the outstanding amount, plus instalments, the over-limit amount, fee GST and any unpaid previous MAD→100% of GST, EMI principal and interest, fees, the over-limit amount and unpaid MAD, plus 5% of retail spends, cash advances and the finance charge — the finance charge taken in full whenever that 5% falls short of it

From the 1 March 2026 statement onwards ICICI stopped deriving the Minimum Amount Due from a single 5%-of-outstanding line and began building it component by component: GST, EMI principal and interest, fees and charges, the over-limit amount and any unpaid previous MAD are all taken at 100%, and 5% is applied to retail spends, cash advances and the finance charge. Where 5% of those three comes to less than the finance charge alone, the whole finance charge is added instead and only retail and cash are taken at 5%. ICICI illustrates both branches itself — a minimum of ₹11,210 on a ₹37,830 total due, and ₹21,620 on a ₹1,15,810 total due where finance charges dominate. Paying the statement in full is unaffected; the minimum rises only for people carrying a balance or taking cash.

  3. ▼ RewardObserved 17 Dec 2025 · Effective 1 Feb 2026

    Transport-category earning capped

Transport spends earned uncapped→Transport rewards capped at ₹20,000 per statement cycle

From 1 February 2026 ICICI capped the reward points earned on transport-category spends — rail, bus, taxi, tolls and similar — at ₹20,000 of spend per statement cycle on its Gemstone-tier cards. Spend above the cap still posts to the card, it simply stops earning. The cap is per statement cycle, not per month, so a long cycle does not buy extra headroom.

Verification: ICICI Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  4. ▼ RewardObserved 17 Dec 2025 · Effective 15 Jan 2026

Fuel, rent and wallet loads stripped of rewards; government re-bucketed into utilities

Wider earning base; government spend earned at the 2 RP/₹100 retail rate→Fuel, rent & third-party wallet loads excluded; government billed as utilities at 1 RP/₹100

ICICI's 2026 round stopped fuel, rent and third-party wallet loads from earning reward points on the Rubyx. Government spends were not stripped outright — a point often got wrong — because ICICI reclassified them as utility transactions, so they continue to earn at the halved utility rate of 1 RP per ₹100 rather than the 2 RP per ₹100 retail rate. Everyday retail continued to earn 2 RP per ₹100 domestic.

Verification: ICICI Bank ↗ · Confidence: High

  5. ▼ FeeObserved 22 Dec 2025 · Effective 15 Jan 2026

New wallet, gaming and transport transaction fees

    No such fees→1% wallet loads >₹5k/mo; 2% online gaming; 1% transport >₹50k/mo

As part of ICICI's portfolio-wide 2026 revision (Rubyx explicitly named), the card added a 1% fee on third-party wallet loads (Amazon Pay/Paytm) above ₹5,000/month, a 2% fee on online-gaming spends regardless of amount, and a 1% fee on transport spends above ₹50,000/month.
