BOBCARD Select Credit Card

BOBCARD Select is the BOBCARD Easy's engine with dining and online swapped in as the 5X categories, for ₹250 more a year — 5 reward points per ₹100 (~1% at Bank of Baroda's official ₹0.20/point) on those two, capped at 1,000 points per statement cycle SHARED across both, and 1 RP per ₹100 elsewhere, which is the same base rate the cheaper Easy already gives. No lounge access, and it cannot be linked to UPI. Judge it on whether dining and online are genuinely your two biggest categories — that pairing is the only thing the extra ₹250 buys.

Select is a competent, unexciting card whose case rests entirely on whether dining and online are genuinely your two biggest categories — because that pairing is the only thing you are buying over the cheaper Easy. At ₹0.20 a point the 5X works out near 1%, and the shared 1,000-point cycle cap keeps the total modest. Judge it on the category fit and the ₹70,000 waiver bar, not on the headline 5X.

Best forAn existing Bank of Baroda customer whose dining and online spend lands near ₹20,000 a month — that is exactly where the 1,000-point cap bites, and beyond it you are earning the same 0.2% as the cheaper Easy. If your spend is well under that, Easy costs ₹250 less for the same base rate; if you want lounge access, only Premier has it.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 5 RP/₹100 (~1%) on dining and online spends
  • Low ₹70,000 fee-waiver threshold
  • 1% fuel surcharge waiver

Cons

  • BoB points at ₹0.20 pull the bonus-category return to ~1%
  • Personal accident cover withdrawn for cards issued after 15-Jul-2026 (existing cardholders covered only until 25-Aug-2026)
  • The 1,000-point 5X cap is SHARED across dining and online — roughly ₹20,000 of combined monthly spend
  • Base rate (1 RP/₹100) is identical to the ₹250-cheaper BOBCARD Easy
  • No lounge access and no golf — only Premier adds lounges
  • Cannot be linked to UPI — Bank of Baroda links only its RuPay cards to UPI apps
  • Annual fee applies unless the ₹70,000 spend waiver is met
  • 3.5% forex markup — not for international transactions

Quick verdict: The BOBCARD Select is the BOBCARD Easy's engine with a different pair of accelerator categories bolted on, for ₹250 more a year. Its base earn — 1 reward point per ₹100 — is exactly what the cheaper Easy gives, and the "5X" on dining and online is capped at 1,000 points per statement cycle, shared across both. Priced at Bank of Baroda's own ₹0.20 a point, that ceiling is worth about ₹2,400 a year against a ₹750 fee. It has no lounge access, and it cannot be linked to UPI. The entire case for the card rests on one question only you can answer: are dining and online genuinely your two biggest spending categories?

What the extra ₹250 actually buys

The Select's position in Bank of Baroda's ladder is the whole story:

BOBCARD Easy — ₹500BOBCARD Select — ₹750BOBCARD Premier — ₹1,000
Base earn1 RP / ₹1001 RP / ₹1002 RP / ₹100
5X categoriesDepartmental stores (5311) + movies (7832)Online + dining (5812)International + dining (5812) + travel
5X cap per cycle1,000 RP1,000 RP2,000 RP
Lounge accessNoneNone1 visit/quarter (needs ₹20,000 prior-quarter spend)
Annual fee waiver₹35,000₹70,000₹1.2 lakh

Read across the Select's column and the pattern is plain: the base rate and the cap are both identical to the Easy's. What ₹250 more buys is a swap of the accelerator set — online and dining in place of departmental stores and movies — plus a fee-waiver bar that doubles. That is the entire upgrade. One rung further, the BOBCARD Premier is a genuinely different card: double the base rate, double the cap, and lounge access the Select does not have at all.

The rewards, priced honestly

The Select earns 5 reward points per ₹100 on online spends and dining (MCC 5812), and 1 reward point per ₹100 on everything else. Bank of Baroda redeems a point for cashback at ₹0.20, and that is the number that matters: the headline "5X" is a ~1% return, and the base rate is ~0.2%.

The cap is where the marketing math comes apart. Bank of Baroda's terms are unambiguous:

"5X Rewards are capped at 1000 Reward Points on the mentioned categories per statement cycle. Further spends in that statement cycle on these categories will earn Reward Points at the regular earn rate. Reward program is not applicable on select MCCs and Fuel."

Note "the mentioned categories", plural — one 1,000-point bucket, shared between dining and online rather than one each. At 5 points per ₹100, you exhaust it at ₹20,000 of combined dining and online spend in a cycle. That is ₹200 a month, or about ₹2,400 a year at the absolute ceiling, against a ₹750 fee. Every rupee of dining or online spend past that ₹20,000 earns the same 1 RP per ₹100 that the ₹250-cheaper Easy already pays.

A worked middle case: ₹6,000 a month on dining and ₹8,000 online is ₹14,000 in bonus categories — 700 points, or ₹140 a month / ₹1,680 a year. Add ₹25,000 of other monthly spend at the base rate (250 points, roughly ₹50 a month) and you land near ₹2,280 a year, on a fee you would typically have waived. Respectable, not transformative.

Where the points do not reach

Three exclusions matter before you judge the headline rate:

  • The card cannot be linked to UPI at all — Bank of Baroda states that only its RuPay BOBCARDs can be

linked on UPI apps, and the Select is not one of them, so it will not go into PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm. UPI spends are excluded from the 5X rate regardless. If a credit line behind everyday UPI is what you want from Bank of Baroda, this is the wrong card in the range.

  • Utility bills (MCC 4900) are excluded from the 5X rate.
  • Fuel earns no reward points at all. You do get a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions

between ₹400 and ₹5,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle — a rebate on a charge, not a reward.

The BOBCARD SmartDeal portal is a real extra: 4 points per ₹100 on flights and 10 per ₹100 on hotels, near 0.8% and 2% at ₹0.20 a point. Useful if you already book that way; not a reason to hold the card.

Fees, eligibility and what is not included

The joining fee is ₹750, reversed on ₹7,500 of spend within 60 days; the annual fee is ₹750, waived on ₹70,000 in an anniversary year — under ₹6,000 a month, a bar this card's target user usually clears. A 500-point welcome bonus lands on ₹5,000 of spend in the first 60 days: ₹100 at the official point value. Forex markup is 3.5% and the APR 3.75% a month (45% a year) — a domestic, pay-in-full card and nothing else.

Eligibility is narrower than the Easy's: Indian resident, aged 25 to 55, with net annual income above ₹4.8 lakh.

On perks, Bank of Baroda's own documentation is blunt — lounge access: NA, golf: NA, welcome gift: NA. The personal accident cover (₹15 lakh air, ₹5 lakh non-air) has been withdrawn for cards issued after 15 July 2026, and existing cardholders are covered only until 25 August 2026 — BOB's product page still advertises the cover, but the dated MITC governs. What remains: up to three lifetime-free add-on cards, and Smart EMI on spends above ₹2,500.

How to decide

Work this backwards from your own statement rather than forwards from the brochure. Pull three months of spending and total your dining and online:

  • Well under ₹20,000 a month combined, and those two are not your biggest categories — the Easy gives

the same base rate for ₹250 less and waives at half the spend.

  • Consistently near ₹20,000 a month across the two — the Select's sweet spot, and simultaneously its

ceiling: you capture close to the full ₹2,400 and cannot capture more.

  • Well past ₹20,000, or online-heavy specifically — most of each cycle is earning 0.2%. A flat-rate or

online-tilted cashback card does more work with less category management; Bank of Baroda's own BOBCARD Cashback pays 5% on eligible online spends, capped at ₹1,500 a month, for a ₹499 fee.

  • You want lounge access — only the Premier has it. No amount of dining spend puts a lounge into the

Select.

The Select is a competent, unexciting card, and there is nothing wrong with being that. Just weigh it for what it actually is: one category swap over a cheaper card, with a ceiling worth knowing before you apply rather than after.

I have spent over a decade on Indian credit cards, mostly for the points and miles. I am a software engineer by profession, I hold and use the cards I write about, and I redeem through airline and hotel transfer partners: Avios, KrisFlyer, Flying Blue, Air India Maharaja Club, Accor ALL, Marriott Bonvoy and Taj. What I write about is what a card is actually worth after the fine print, the caps and exclusions that decide the real return, and the changes issuers make quietly. No paid placements.

Frequently asked questions

How many reward points does the BOBCARD Select earn?
5 reward points per ₹100 on online spends and dining (MCC 5812), and 1 reward point per ₹100 on everything else. Bank of Baroda redeems a point for cashback at ₹0.20, so the headline 5X is really about a 1% return and the base rate is about 0.2%. That base rate is identical to the cheaper BOBCARD Easy's.
Is the 5X rate capped?
Yes, and the cap is the most important number on the card. Bank of Baroda's terms cap 5X at 1,000 reward points per statement cycle, and that single bucket is SHARED across dining and online — so it is exhausted at roughly ₹20,000 of combined spend in a cycle. Past that, both categories drop to the 1 RP per ₹100 base rate. At ₹0.20 a point, a fully-used cap is worth about ₹200 a month, or ₹2,400 a year, against a ₹750 fee.
Can I use the BOBCARD Select on UPI?
No. Bank of Baroda states that only RuPay BOBCARDs can be linked on UPI, and the Select is not one of them — so it cannot be added to PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm for scan-and-pay. UPI spends are also excluded from the 5X rate on this card. If UPI linking is what you want from a BOBCARD, look at the RuPay cards in the range instead.
What is the annual fee and how is it waived?
₹750 joining fee, reversed on ₹7,500 of spend within 60 days, and a ₹750 annual fee, waived on ₹70,000 of spend in an anniversary year — under ₹6,000 a month. A 500-point welcome bonus (worth ₹100) lands on ₹5,000 of spend in the first 60 days.
How does the Select differ from the cheaper BOBCARD Easy?
By one thing: which pair of categories earns 5X. Select's base rate is the same 1 RP per ₹100 as the Easy's, and its 1,000-point cycle cap is the same too. The extra ₹250 swaps the accelerator pair to online and dining, in place of the Easy's departmental stores and movies — and raises the fee-waiver bar from ₹35,000 to ₹70,000. If dining and online are not your two biggest categories, the Easy does the same job for less.
Does the BOBCARD Select include lounge access?
No. Bank of Baroda's documentation lists lounge access, golf and welcome gift as 'NA' for this card. Within the Bank of Baroda range, lounge access starts at the Premier. Note that the personal accident cover (₹15 lakh air / ₹5 lakh non-air) has been withdrawn for cards issued after 15 July 2026, and existing cardholders are covered only until 25 August 2026 — BOB's product page still advertises the cover, but the dated MITC governs. Up to three lifetime-free add-on cards remain.
