Pros and cons
Pros
- 5% back as NeuCoins across Tata Neu and partner Tata brands (BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Air India, Taj and more)
- Low 1.99% foreign-currency markup — well under the 3.5% most cards charge, though a handful of premium cards now charge nothing at all
- RuPay UPI linkage earns 1.5% NeuCoins even on UPI transactions, unusual for a rewards card
- 8 domestic plus 4 international lounge visits a year via Priority Pass
Cons
- Real value is concentrated inside the Tata ecosystem; 1.5% base is only average elsewhere
- Merchant EMI and Flexipay earn no NeuCoins on SBI (the HDFC Tata Neu cards pay the base rate on merchant EMI)
- Grocery, insurance, utilities and telecom each cap at 2,000 NeuCoins a month, and UPI at 500
- Fuel, wallet loads, rent, government, education, gaming, cash advances and EMI earn nothing
- Lounge access is conditional on Rs. 75,000 spend in the previous quarter, and SBI's published Tata Neu lounge list contains no metro airport
- Annual fee reversal needs Rs. 3 lakh of spend
Quick verdict: A NeuCoins co-brand that pays a genuine 5% across the Tata group and — unusually — earns 1.5% on RuPay UPI spends, all wrapped around a low 1.99% forex markup. If your shopping already runs through Tata Neu, BigBasket, Croma and Westside, it is a strong, low-friction pick. Outside that ecosystem, the 1.5% base makes it merely average, so be honest about where your money actually goes.
The Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card is one half of a curious situation: there are two near-identical Tata Neu Infinity cards on the market, one issued by SBI and one by HDFC. Both earn NeuCoins on the same Tata brands at the same headline rates. This review is about the SBI version; if you already bank with, or prefer, one issuer over the other, that is often the deciding factor, because the reward mechanics are broadly the same.
This card is one of four Tata Neu co-brands — HDFC and SBI each issue a Plus and an Infinity, all sharing the same NeuCoin ecosystem. Here's where it sits (every box is a link):
What it earns
The structure is simple and, for the right person, genuinely rewarding:
- 5% back as NeuCoins on non-EMI spends at the Tata Neu App/Website and partner Tata brands — think BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Tata 1mg, Air India and Taj.
- Up to an extra 5% as NeuCoins on select categories on Tata Neu (these rotate; check the app).
- 1.5% back as NeuCoins on everything else, including UPI transactions on this RuPay variant, where UPI earning is capped at 500 NeuCoins a month.
A NeuCoin is worth ₹1 when you redeem it on Tata Neu or partner Tata brands, so treat this as a cashback card that happens to pay out in a Tata wallet. NeuCoins auto-credit to your NeuPass account within seven working days of your statement.
Two pieces of fine print that catch people out. SBI's terms exclude Merchant EMI and Flexipay from earning — they collect no NeuCoins at all, which is worth knowing if you put big-ticket buys on EMI (notably, the HDFC Tata Neu cards do pay the base rate on merchant EMI). And NeuCoins carry the Tata Neu programme's 12-month expiry — valid to the end of the 12th month after they're credited — so earn and burn within the year. The NeuCoin currency itself (value, NeuPass bonus, expiry, redemption) works identically across every Tata Neu card; for that shared rulebook see the Tata NeuCoins & NeuPass guide.
The two features that stand out
Two things lift this above a generic co-brand. First, the 1.99% foreign-currency markup — well under the norm, though not the floor, since some cards now charge no markup at all. Most cards charge 3.5%, so on overseas or international-merchant spends this quietly saves you real money, and it makes the card a credible travel companion despite not being a travel card.
Second, because it is a RuPay card, it earns on UPI. You can link it to your UPI apps and still collect 1.5% NeuCoins on those spends, up to 500 NeuCoins a month (about ₹33,000 of UPI spend) — something most rewards cards cannot do. For anyone whose day-to-day spending has migrated to UPI QR codes, that is a meaningful, easily-overlooked edge.
Fees, lounges and the fine print
The ₹1,499 annual fee is reversed on ₹3 lakh of net retail spend in the year — reachable if this is your primary card, a stretch if it is not. You get a welcome benefit of 1,499 NeuCoins (₹1,499) within 15 days of paying the fee, which covers about 85% of the ₹1,769 all-in first-year fee, in NeuCoins you spend inside the Tata group.
Lounge access is generous on paper: 8 domestic visits a year (2 per quarter) and 4 international visits a year via complimentary Priority Pass (worth $99, valid two years). The catch worth reading twice: the domestic visits unlock only if you spent ₹75,000 in the previous quarter, and SBI's Tata Neu domestic lounge list, in force since 10 April 2026, includes no metro airport, so those visits rarely help where most holders fly. There is also a standard 1% fuel-surcharge waiver (₹500–₹4,000 transactions, capped ₹500 per cycle).
Who it is for — and who it is not
This card rewards ecosystem loyalty. If a real slice of your spending already flows through Tata Neu, BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Tata 1mg, Air India or Taj, the 5% is money you are otherwise leaving on the table, and the low forex markup plus UPI earning are bonuses on top. For that person it is an easy recommendation.
It is the wrong card if you barely touch the Tata group. The 1.5% base is unremarkable, and NeuCoins are far less flexible than plain cashback — you are locked into spending them back inside the Tata world. A flat-cashback card such as the SBI Cashback will serve a platform-agnostic online shopper better. And if you want the same Tata rewards but lower commitment, the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card drops the fee to ₹499 (with a lower 2% Tata rate and a 3.5% forex markup).
The bottom line
The Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card is a well-built co-brand: a true 5% inside a large, everyday-relevant retail group, a rare 1.5% on UPI, and a low 1.99% forex markup that punches above the card's mid-tier positioning. Its value is entirely a function of how Tata-centric your spending is — heavy Tata shoppers should hold it, everyone else should think twice. And remember it has an HDFC-issued twin; pick the issuer you would rather deal with, because the rewards are much the same.
