Tata NeuCoins & NeuPass: How India’s Tata Neu Rewards Ecosystem Actually Works (2026)

NeuCoins, NeuPass tiers, expiry and redemption are Tata Neu app features on India’s four Tata Neu credit cards — they work the same whether your card is issued by HDFC or SBI. This is the shared rulebook; only each card's own earn rate and fees differ.

There are four Tata Neu co-brand credit cards in India — a Plus and an Infinity, each issued by both HDFC Bank and SBI Card. People spend a lot of energy comparing them, but most of what makes a Tata Neu card tick isn't the bank at all: it's the Tata Neu app and the NeuCoins programme sitting underneath. NeuCoins, NeuPass, expiry, redemption — these work the same way on all four cards, because they belong to Tata Neu, not to HDFC or SBI.

So it's worth separating the two layers cleanly:

  • The app layer (this guide): what a NeuCoin is worth, the NeuPass bonus, expiry, redemption, and what doesn't earn — identical across every Tata Neu card.
  • The card layer (each card's own review): the card's Tata-brand earn rate, base rate, fees, lounges, forex, and how EMIs are treated — these genuinely differ by bank and tier.

Get the app layer right once and every Tata Neu card decision gets simpler.

What a NeuCoin is worth

1 NeuCoin = ₹1 when you redeem inside the Tata Neu app or at a partner Tata brand. There's no degraded "reward catalogue" rate — the value never shrinks on redemption. The single constraint is that NeuCoins only work inside the Tata ecosystem (BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Tata CLiQ, Westside, Air India via the app, Taj/IHCL and other partners), so a NeuCoin is worth exactly ₹1 if you shop there and effectively ₹0 if you don't. Unlike bank points that lose value when transferred or redeemed, a NeuCoin is simply ₹1 you can only spend at Tata.

The two earn layers

How a Tata Neu spend earns: card rate plus NeuPass bonus become NeuCoins you redeem inside Tata. You spend atTata Neu app / brandsCard earn · 2–5%NeuPass · up to 5%NeuCoins @ ₹1redeem inside Tata
Two earn layers stack on a Tata Neu spend — your card's own rate plus the NeuPass bonus — then land as NeuCoins worth ₹1 each.

Every Tata Neu spend can earn on two layers that stack:

  1. The card's own earn — this is the part that differs by card (see the table below).
  2. The NeuPass bonus — the same for all four cards: per the card terms, "additional up to 5% NeuCoins on selected categories on Tata Neu."

Here's how the card layer compares across the four cards, with the shared app layer alongside:

Forex markup3.50%3.50%2.00%1.99%

Three things to notice. First, the "up to 5%" NeuPass bonus and the ₹1 NeuCoin are the same everywhere — that's the app layer. Second, the EMI treatment flips by bank: HDFC pays the base rate on merchant EMI, while SBI excludes merchant EMI and Flexipay entirely (they earn zero NeuCoins).

Third — and this is a correction to what we previously printed here — the 500 NeuCoin/month UPI cap is documented on the HDFC pair only. SBI's terms for its two Tata Neu cards carry no such cap that we can source. We had applied it to all four columns, which was exactly the error this guide exists to warn against: assuming the two banks behave alike because the card names match. Do not read the blank SBI cells as "uncapped" either — read them as "not published", which is a different and less comfortable thing. Verify against SBI's own terms before sizing your UPI spend to them.

NeuPass: the app-side bonus

NeuPass is a free membership you register for inside the Tata Neu app — not a paid subscription any card buys for you. What it does, in the card terms' own words, is give you "additional up to 5% NeuCoins on selected categories on Tata Neu," on top of your card's own earn. That's where the Infinity's "up to 10%" and the Plus's "up to ~7%" come from.

Read the "up to" and "selected categories" carefully — it's not a flat 5% on everything you buy on Tata Neu. NeuPass has membership tiers, and the bonus you actually get depends on your standing and on what you're buying, so your real rate can sit below the headline. The only place that shows your current rate is the app itself — see the official NeuPass page.

One more thing the card terms spell out: each brand may award NeuCoins per its own policy. So brands like Titan/Tanishq, IHCL/Taj and Air India Express reward you through their own loyalty programme rather than a blanket NeuPass rate — check the brand's own scheme if you spend heavily there.

The terms have moved nine times — read this before you plan around any figure above

NeuCoins are one of the most frequently revised currencies in the Indian market, and a guide that gives you today's rates without that context is telling you half of what you need. Our devaluation index ranks the Tata Neu Infinity HDFC and Tata Neu Plus HDFC sixth and seventh among the fifteen most-devalued cards in India — nine recorded cuts each, three of them major, the most recent on 15 May 2026. The dated, event-by-event record for both cards is on their card pages and in our devaluation tracker.

What that means practically: treat every rate and cap in this guide as the position today rather than a standing promise, and be wary of banking a large NeuCoin balance against a redemption you have not booked. The 12-month expiry below compounds that — a currency that both expires and gets revised is one to spend rather than accumulate.

When NeuCoins expire

Since 1 August 2025, NeuCoins are valid for 12 months from the end of the month they're credited. HDFC's terms give the worked example: coins credited on any day in August 2025 are valid until 31 August 2026. In practice that means you should treat NeuCoins as a spend-within-the-year currency — earn them and burn them, don't hoard.

Redeeming NeuCoins

Redemption is refreshingly simple: 1 NeuCoin = ₹1, spent on the Tata Neu app/website or at partner brands (BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Tata CLiQ, Westside, Taj/IHCL, and more), including at the point of sale in some stores. There are no transfer partners and no statement-credit option.

Two limits worth knowing, straight from the card terms: NeuCoins are currently not redeemable on Bill Payment, Air India, or Tata Play. And after a purchase, NeuCoins post to your NeuPass account within about seven working days of your statement — they're not instant.

What doesn't earn NeuCoins

Across the Tata Neu cards, several categories are excluded from earning: fuel, rent, government payments, wallet/prepaid loads, voucher and gift-card purchases, card fees and charges, third-party education payments, cash advances and balance transfers. Know this before routing a big spend through a Tata Neu card expecting rewards.

EMIs are the category that differs by bank. On the HDFC cards, merchant/brand/aggregator EMI earns the base rate on principal (only lender-side SmartEMI / Dial-an-EMI earn nothing). On the SBI cards, Merchant EMI and Flexipay are excluded outright — they earn no NeuCoins at all. If you buy on EMI a lot, that difference alone can decide which issuer's card you want.

A note on paying bills through Tata Neu

It's tempting to route utility and insurance bills through the Tata Neu app for NeuCoins, but do the maths first. On the HDFC cards those categories earn only the base 1.5% (not 5% — that's reserved for partner-Tata-brand spend); NeuCoins can't be redeemed on Bill Payment anyway; and the app may add a convenience fee at checkout. For routine bills, a dedicated cashback or utility card is usually the better tool.

Choosing between the four: it's a 2×2

Because the app layer is identical across all four cards, picking one comes down to just two questions — which is why the range forms a neat two-by-two grid:

The Tata Neu four-card familyThe Tata NeuCoins and NeuPass guide is the shared app-layer hub. Below it, the HDFC and SBI bank hubs each hold a Plus and an Infinity card. Cards compare on two axes: tier (Plus vs Infinity, same bank) and issuer (HDFC vs SBI, same tier).THE HUB · APP LAYERTata NeuCoins and NeuPass1 coin = ₹1 · shared by all 4 cardsHDFC BankSBI CardHDFC Tata Neu Plus₹499 · 2% TataSBI Tata Neu Plus₹499 · 2% TataHDFC Tata Neu Infinity₹1,499 · 5% Tata · 2.00% forexSBI Tata Neu Infinity₹1,499 · 5% Tata · 1.99% forexissuer ⇄issuer ⇄tier ↕tier ↕structure and upgrade pathside-by-side comparison
Every box is a link. The NeuCoins ecosystem is the shared hub; pick a card by tier (Plus vs Infinity) and issuer (HDFC vs SBI).
HDFC BankSBI Card
Plus — ₹499, 2% on TataHDFC Tata Neu Plus →SBI Tata Neu Plus →
Infinity — ₹1,499, 5% on TataHDFC Tata Neu Infinity →SBI Tata Neu Infinity →

Question 1 — how much do you spend at Tata? (picks the tier). Light or occasional Tata spending → the Plus (₹499, fee waived at ₹1 lakh). Heavy Tata spending, roughly ₹8,000+/month → the Infinity (₹1,499, waived at ₹3 lakh), where 5% vs 2% and better lounges earn back the higher fee. See it side by side: HDFC Plus vs Infinity · SBI Plus vs Infinity.

Question 2 — HDFC or SBI? (picks the issuer). Same headline earn, but the card-side terms differ: the SBI Infinity's slightly lower 1.99% forex vs HDFC's 2.00%, the lounge conditions, and the EMI split — HDFC pays the base rate on merchant EMI, SBI excludes it. Compare the issuer twins: HDFC vs SBI Infinity · HDFC vs SBI Plus.

Prefer to browse a whole bank's range? Each issuer has a hub: HDFC Bank credit cards · SBI credit cards.

The rule of thumb is unchanged by the bank you pick: the Infinity's higher earn (and, on both banks, a low forex markup) pays off for heavy Tata-ecosystem spenders; the Plus is the low-fee pick for lighter Tata use; and if your life doesn't run through Tata brands, a general-purpose cashback card will out-earn any of them on your real spend mix — because a NeuCoin is only ₹1 if you actually shop at Tata.

I have spent over a decade on Indian credit cards, mostly for the points and miles. I am a software engineer by profession, I hold and use the cards I write about, and I redeem through airline and hotel transfer partners: Avios, KrisFlyer, Flying Blue, Air India Maharaja Club, Accor ALL, Marriott Bonvoy and Taj. What I write about is what a card is actually worth after the fine print, the caps and exclusions that decide the real return, and the changes issuers make quietly. No paid placements.

Frequently asked questions

What is 1 NeuCoin worth?
1 NeuCoin = ₹1 when redeemed inside the Tata Neu app or at partner Tata brands. The redemption value is flat ₹1 and doesn't degrade — the only limit is that NeuCoins are spendable only within the Tata ecosystem.
Do NeuCoins work the same on the HDFC and SBI Tata Neu cards?
The NeuCoin ecosystem — NeuPass, the up-to-5% app bonus, 12-month expiry, and redemption — is identical across all four cards (HDFC and SBI, Plus and Infinity), because it's a Tata Neu app feature, not a bank feature. What differs by card is only the card's own earn rate, fees, lounges and, importantly, how EMIs are treated.
Do NeuCoins expire?
Yes — since 1 August 2025, NeuCoins are valid for 12 months from the end of the month they're credited (HDFC's own example: coins credited any day in August 2025 are valid until 31 August 2026). You have to both earn and spend them within the year.
How do I earn the extra NeuPass NeuCoins?
Register for NeuPass (free) in the Tata Neu app. Per the card terms, it adds 'additional up to 5% NeuCoins on selected categories on Tata Neu.' It's an 'up to' rate on selected categories and depends on your NeuPass standing — check your current rate on the official Tata Neu NeuPass page.
Can I convert NeuCoins to cashback or airline miles?
No. NeuCoins are redeemable only within the Tata ecosystem — no statement credit and no transfer to any airline or hotel programme. Their value rests entirely on you shopping at Tata brands.
