Tata Neu Plus SBI Card

The Tata Neu Plus SBI Card is the low-fee entry into the Tata Neu ecosystem — a ₹499 fee reversed at just ₹1 lakh of annual spend. It pays 2% back as NeuCoins on non-EMI spends at Tata Neu and partner Tata brands and 1% on everything else, including UPI transactions on this RuPay variant, plus an additional up to 5% via NeuPass on select Tata Neu categories. Several categories carry their own monthly NeuCoin ceilings — grocery at 1,000 (half the Infinity's), insurance, utilities and telecom at 2,000 each, UPI at 500 a statement cycle — and fuel, wallet loads, rent, government, education, gaming, cash advances and EMI earn nothing at all. A NeuCoin is worth ₹1 within the Tata group, and a 499-NeuCoin welcome benefit covers about 85% of the ₹589 all-in first-year fee. SBI's terms exclude Merchant EMI and Flexipay from earning, unlike the HDFC Tata Neu cards. Perks are modest — 4 domestic lounge visits a year (1 per quarter, on ₹50,000 previous-quarter spend), a 1% fuel surcharge waiver and a standard 3.5% forex markup.

The concern

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card?
The Plus is the lower-fee entry version — Rs. 499 vs Rs. 1,499, 2% vs 5% on Tata Neu, a 3.5% forex markup, and domestic-only lounge access.
Does it earn on UPI spends?
Yes. On the RuPay variant, UPI transactions earn 1% back as NeuCoins, and the card can be linked to UPI apps. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 1% on everyday spends — percentages here are cashback as a share of spend, credited to the statement with no points to convert. It reaches 2% at Tata Neu & Tata brands, and only there. Figures as of October 2026.
When is the annual fee reversed?
The Rs. 499 renewal fee is reversed on Rs. 1 lakh of net retail spend in the year before the fee billing date. The renewal fee is ₹499 plus 18% GST — ₹589 all-in, which is the figure that actually hits the statement. Spending ₹1,00,000 in the card year waives the renewal fee — about ₹8,333 a month. Figures as of October 2026.
Do EMI purchases earn NeuCoins?
No — SBI's terms exclude Merchant EMI and Flexipay from earning NeuCoins entirely, unlike the HDFC Tata Neu cards where merchant EMI earns the base rate on principal.
Do NeuCoins expire?
Tata Digital applies a validity period to NeuCoins at the NeuPass account level, and it is widely reported as 12 months from the end of the credit month. SBI's own card T&C publishes no expiry at all. We have not been able to confirm the 12-month figure against a Tata or SBI source, so check the applicable date on your NeuPass balance rather than relying on it.

Our dated Value Timeline for the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card (on this page) records 3 changes since 2025: 2 devaluations, 0 improvements, and the rest neutral changes such as launches or restructures. Tata Card

A discontinued entry-level Tata co-brand from 2019 — a ₹499 card with 3X points on grocery, up to 5% value back at Tata outlets and a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver. Closed to new applicants and superseded by the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card; documented here for reference only.

→

Tata Neu Plus HDFC Bank Credit Card

A ₹499 card with a split personality — for a household that has made BigBasket, Croma, 1mg and Westside its defaults, it acts like a generous cashback card (up to ~7% NeuCoins on Tata spends); for everyone else, it earns a currency you forget to spend. NeuCoins now expire in 12 months and are Tata-only. The right pick over the pricier Infinity for moderate Tata spenders — wrong entirely if your loyalty lives elsewhere.

Tata Card SELECT

A discontinued premium Tata co-brand from 2019 — 3X points on grocery, dining and international spends, up to 5X at Tata outlets, and spend-linked vouchers worth up to ₹6,000. Closed to new applicants and superseded by the Tata Neu SBI cards; documented here for reference only.

  1. ▼ FeeEffective 1 Nov 2025

Portfolio fee revision (education and wallet-load fees added)

SBI Card's portfolio-wide fee revision added a 1% fee on education payments made through third-party apps and a 1% fee on every wallet load above Rs.1,000, alongside higher cash-payment, cheque-dishonour and cash-withdrawal charges. The MITC also carries a 1% Utility Payments Fee where utility spend exceeds Rs.50,000 in a billing cycle (from 1 Dec 2024) and a Rs.199 processing fee on every rent-payment transaction. Recorded here 2026-08-06; the change applied portfolio-wide but had only been carried on a single card file.

From 1 Aug 2025 Tata Digital moved the whole NeuPass programme (except IHCL/Taj) off rolling validity to a fixed expiry: NeuCoins now lapse 12 months from the end of the month they are credited. This is a programme-wide currency change, so NeuCoins earned on the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card are affected too; pre-existing non-promotional balances were set to expire 31 Jul 2026. It ended indefinite hoarding, forcing earn-and-burn within a year.
