Pros and cons
Pros
- Low Rs. 499 fee, reversed at just Rs. 1 lakh of annual spend
- 2% NeuCoins across Tata Neu and partner Tata brands
- RuPay UPI linkage earns 1% NeuCoins on UPI transactions
- Sensible entry point into the Tata Neu rewards ecosystem
Cons
- Rewards are roughly half the Infinity variant's rate; base is only 1%
- Merchant EMI and Flexipay earn no NeuCoins on SBI (the HDFC Tata Neu cards pay the base rate on merchant EMI)
- Grocery caps at just 1,000 NeuCoins a month, half the Infinity's; insurance, utilities and telecom at 2,000 each, UPI at 500
- Fuel, wallet loads, rent, government, education, gaming, cash advances and EMI earn nothing
- Standard 3.5% forex markup, unlike the Infinity's 1.99%
- Only 4 domestic lounge visits, gated on Rs. 50,000 prior-quarter spend, and SBI's published Tata Neu lounge list contains no metro airport
Quick verdict: The low-fee entry into the Tata Neu ecosystem — ₹499, reversed at just ₹1 lakh of spend, 2% NeuCoins across Tata brands and 1% on everything else including RuPay UPI. A sensible starter for light Tata shoppers, but anyone who spends seriously inside the Tata group will earn far more, fast, on the Infinity variant.
The Tata Neu Plus SBI Card is the junior sibling in SBI's Tata Neu line-up — the same NeuCoins mechanics as the Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card, at roughly half the rate and a third of the fee. It exists for people who want a foothold in the Tata rewards world without committing ₹1,499 a year. Note too that the flagship Infinity has an HDFC-issued twin; the Plus is SBI's low-cost door into the same ecosystem.
This card is one of four Tata Neu co-brands — HDFC and SBI each issue a Plus and an Infinity, all sharing the same NeuCoin ecosystem. Here's where it sits (every box is a link):
What it earns
- 2% back as NeuCoins on non-EMI spends at the Tata Neu App/Website and partner Tata brands — BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Tata 1mg and the rest.
- Up to an extra 5% as NeuCoins on select categories on Tata Neu (rotating; check the app).
- 1% back as NeuCoins on all other spends, including UPI transactions on this RuPay variant, where UPI earning is capped at 500 NeuCoins a statement cycle.
A NeuCoin is worth ₹1 when redeemed on Tata Neu or partner Tata brands, and NeuCoins auto-credit to your NeuPass account within seven working days of your statement. So this is, in effect, a light cashback card whose payout lives in the Tata wallet.
Two bits of fine print apply here just as on the Infinity: SBI excludes Merchant EMI and Flexipay from earning (no NeuCoins on those, unlike the HDFC Tata Neu cards), and NeuCoins carry the Tata Neu programme's 12-month expiry from the end of the credit month. The NeuCoin mechanics — value, the NeuPass bonus, expiry and redemption — are common to every Tata Neu card; the Tata NeuCoins & NeuPass guide lays out that shared rulebook.
Fees and perks
The ₹499 fee is the whole appeal, and it is reversed at just ₹1 lakh of annual net retail spend — an easy bar for most cardholders. You also get a 499-NeuCoin welcome benefit (₹499) within 15 days of paying the fee, which covers about 85% of the ₹589 all-in first-year fee.
Perks are modest, as you would expect at this fee: 4 domestic lounge visits a year (1 per quarter), unlocked only if you spent ₹50,000 in the previous quarter and, since SBI's 10 April 2026 Tata Neu lounge list includes no metro airport, rarely useful where most holders fly; there is also a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver (₹500–₹4,000 transactions, capped ₹250 per cycle). There is no international lounge access, and the forex markup is the standard 3.5% — a real gap versus the Infinity's 1.99%.
Where it fits — and where it does not
This card is right for the light or first-time Tata shopper: someone who buys groceries on BigBasket or the odd item on Tata Neu, wants a cheap card that pays a little on UPI, and does not want to think hard about it. At ₹499 reversed at ₹1 lakh, it costs almost nothing to hold, and the 499-NeuCoin welcome covers most of the first-year fee.
It is the wrong card if you spend heavily inside the Tata ecosystem. The maths is unforgiving: the Infinity earns 5% vs this card's 2% on Tata brands and 1.5% vs 1% elsewhere, plus a far better 1.99% forex markup and international lounges. If you route even ₹15,000–₹20,000 a month through Tata brands, that extra 3% quickly dwarfs the ₹1,000 fee difference — upgrade and stop leaving money behind. It is also the wrong card for a broad online shopper with little Tata spend; a flat-cashback card will simply pay more.
The bottom line
The Tata Neu Plus SBI Card does exactly one job well: it gives you cheap, low-commitment access to NeuCoins and — usefully — earns on RuPay UPI. Hold it if your Tata spending is occasional and you value a near-free card. But treat it as a starting point, not a destination: the moment your Tata spending becomes a habit, the Infinity variant is the better card by a wide margin.
