Pros and cons
Pros
- Up to ~7% NeuCoins on select Tata Neu app categories — 2% on Tata brands (BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Tata CLiQ) plus a 5% Tata Neu app bonus
- Free NeuPass membership adds up to 5% NeuCoins on selected Tata Neu categories, on top of the 2% Tata-brand base
- NeuCoins redeemable seamlessly across all Tata Neu app — one wallet for the whole ecosystem
- RuPay UPI-linked for everyday tap payments
Cons
- NeuCoins locked to Tata ecosystem — useless if you do not actively use Tata apps
- Non-Tata spend earns only 1% — significantly lower than SBI Cashback or HDFC Millennia
- Annual fee of ₹499 only justifies if you spend regularly in the Tata ecosystem (waived at ₹1 lakh)
- Grocery caps at just 1,000 NeuCoins a month — half the Infinity's, and the clearest gap between them
- Fuel, rent, government payments, wallet and gift-card loads, vouchers and online gaming earn nothing
Quick verdict: A ₹499 card with a split personality — for a household that has made BigBasket, Croma, 1mg and Westside its defaults, it acts like a generous cashback card (up to ~7% NeuCoins on Tata spends); for everyone else, it earns a currency you forget to spend. NeuCoins now expire in 12 months and are Tata-only. The right pick over the pricier Infinity for moderate Tata spenders — wrong entirely if your loyalty lives elsewhere.
The Tata Neu Plus is the entry rung of HDFC's Tata Neu co-brand pair, and it's a card with a split personality: for a household that has genuinely made BigBasket, Croma, 1mg and Westside its defaults, it behaves like a generous cashback card; for everyone else, it earns a currency (NeuCoins) you'll keep forgetting to spend. At a ₹499 fee, the stakes are low — but so is the value if your loyalty isn't already inside the Tata ecosystem.
This card is one of four Tata Neu co-brands — HDFC and SBI each issue a Plus and an Infinity, all sharing the same NeuCoin ecosystem. Here's where it sits (every box is a link):
What lands you the NeuCoins
The Plus rewards Tata-ecosystem spending:
- 2% NeuCoins on Tata Neu and partner Tata-brand spends (BigBasket, Croma, 1mg, Westside, Air India and more).
- Via NeuPass, "additional up to 5% NeuCoins on selected categories on Tata Neu" (HDFC's own wording) —
taking the best Tata Neu spends to up to ~7%. It's an "up to" rate on selected categories, and NeuPass has membership tiers, so your real bonus depends on your standing; check it on the official NeuPass page.
- 1% NeuCoins on non-Tata transactions and on merchant/brand EMIs (principal only; only lender-side
SmartEMI / Dial-an-EMI conversions earn nothing).
- UPI earning (RuPay variant): 0.25% on UPI generally, plus an additional 0.75% on UPI via your Tata Neu
UPI ID — total ~1%, capped at 500 NeuCoins per month.
- 4 domestic lounge visits a year (max 1 per quarter, on ₹50,000 of prior-quarter spend) and a fuel
surcharge waiver, plus a welcome 499 NeuCoins on your first transaction within 30 days, which covers most (about 85%) of the ₹589 all-in fee.
The fee is ₹499, waived at ₹1 lakh of annual spend — note this is the cheaper Plus, not the ₹1,499 Infinity — the Plus is the ₹499 card. For a committed Tata household, the 2% on Tata-brand spend — rising to ~7% on the select Tata Neu app categories — genuinely compounds.
The NeuCoin reality
The defining limitation — same as the Infinity — is that NeuCoins are redeemable only within the Tata ecosystem. No cashback, no airline transfer, no escape hatch: you spend them at Tata Neu, BigBasket, Westside, Croma, Air India and partners, or not at all. And as of August 2025, NeuCoins now expire 12 months from the month they're credited. So the card's value depends entirely on you actually shopping at Tata often enough to both earn and burn the coins before they lapse. If your loyalty drifts to Amazon or Blinkit, the NeuCoins pile up and then expire, and the card's whole proposition collapses.
The UPI earning was also curtailed (the bonus rate now requires your Tata Neu UPI ID, capped at 500 coins/month), so don't count on heavy UPI use to drive value.

Plus vs Infinity
The choice between HDFC's two Tata Neu cards is purely about ecosystem spend volume. The Infinity (₹1,499) earns 5% on Tata brands against the Plus's 2%, and adds international lounge access. That 3-point gap pays for the Infinity's extra ₹1,180 all-in fee at roughly ₹3,300 a month of Tata spending, and sooner if you also put non-Tata spend on it (1.5% against 1%). Below that level, the Plus (₹499) is the right pick — lower fee, less pressure to justify it — for people dipping into the Tata ecosystem rather than living in it.
Who should hold it
The Plus suits the moderate Tata-ecosystem household — regular BigBasket/Westside/Croma shoppers, occasional Air India flyers — who'll redeem NeuCoins within 12 months and wants a low-fee card that behaves like cashback inside Tata. For that person it's a sensible, cheap everyday card.
It's the wrong card for the non-Tata shopper (NeuCoins expire unused), for anyone wanting flexible or cashable rewards (NeuCoins are Tata-locked), and for heavy spenders who'd do better on the Infinity.
Should you get it?
The Tata Neu Plus HDFC card is a loyalty card that masquerades as cashback — and only convincingly so if BigBasket, Croma, 1mg and Westside are already your defaults. For that committed Tata household, up to ~7% on ecosystem spend at a ₹499 fee (waived at ₹1 lakh) compounds nicely. For everyone else, the NeuCoins — now expiring in 12 months, redeemable only inside Tata — become a currency you forget to spend, and the value evaporates. It's the right pick over the pricier Infinity for moderate Tata spenders, and the wrong card entirely if your shopping loyalty lives anywhere but Tata. Buy it because you already shop Tata; don't buy it hoping to start.
