PREMIUM CARDS — 5 CARDS
Best Premium Credit Cards in India 2026
Top premium and super-premium credit cards in India. Airport lounge access, golf privileges, concierge services, and high reward rates.
Premium and super-premium credit cards bundle high reward rates with lifestyle benefits — unlimited airport lounge access, golf rounds, concierge service, hotel and airline memberships, and, on several cards, large milestone vouchers. They carry higher annual fees, justified for high spenders who actually use the perks.
The key question with a premium card is whether the benefits you’ll use exceed the fee. A ₹10,000-fee card that delivers ₹30,000 in lounge access, memberships, and rewards is excellent value; the same card is poor value if those perks sit unused. The cards below are our editors’ picks for premium value, strongest first.
HDFC Bank Infinia Metal Credit Card
HDFC · VISA
₹12,500/yr
annual fee · ≈ ₹14,750 incl. GST
● BEST FOR: 3.3% reward points on all spends

HDFC Infinia is invitation-only for HDFC's top relationship customers. Sanjay, a senior executive with an HDFC salary account, uses SmartBuy to book business flights: 5X points = ₹1 per ₹6 spent. His ₹5L/month spend earns about ₹2 lakh in points a year at the 3.3% base. Unlimited Priority Pass covers his weekly lounge visits globally. The 2% forex markup on ₹20L/year international spend saves ₹34,000 vs the 3.75% charged by most cards.
Why it stands out 10X SmartBuy points — the highest points density in Indian credit cards
Best suited for Infinia is for HDFC's top-tier relationship customers — typically those with ₹30L+ invested in HDFC products or a salary account with significant AUM. If you can get invited, the 10X SmartBuy earn rate on flights and hotels is the highest points density on any Indian card.
HDFC Diners Club Black Metal Edition
HDFC · DINERS

● BEST FOR: 4.33% reward points on Dining

The HDFC Diners Club Black Metal is HDFC's premium all-rounder — 5 reward points per ₹150 (~3.3% at ₹1/point) across spends, with SmartBuy turning travel into double-digit returns (10X on hotels, ~33%; 5X on flights, buses and partner brands like IGP, Jockey and PharmEasy, ~16.5%; 3X on trains and brand vouchers). The ₹10,000 fee waives at ₹8 lakh of annual spend. It adds 2X on weekend dining at standalone restaurants, Club Marriott, Amazon Prime and Swiggy One annual memberships once you spend ₹1.5 lakh in the first 90 days, a 10,000-point milestone on ₹4 lakh quarterly spend, and unlimited access to 1,300+ lounges worldwide on the Diners Club network itself. Largely spared the May 2026 HDFC devaluation, it remains one of the strongest premium cards for high spenders.
Why it stands out ~3.3% base with rich SmartBuy accelerators, three bundled memberships and unlimited 1,300+ lounges; ₹10,000 fee waives at ₹8 lakh
Best suited for For HDFC customers who book travel via HDFC SmartBuy and spend ₹50,000+ per month total. The SmartBuy 10X multiplier is what makes this card exceptional — if you do not use SmartBuy, the Infinia or Regalia Gold offers better everyday value.
ICICI Bank Emeralde Credit Card (Metal)
ICICI · VISA

annual fee · ≈ ₹14,160 incl. GST
● BEST FOR: 1.6% reward points on all spends

The ICICI Emeralde (Metal) is ICICI's "almost-flagship" — 4 reward points per ₹100, unlimited domestic lounges with international Priority Pass, and a 2% forex markup, for a ₹12,000 fee waived at ₹10 lakh. It sits one rung below the invite-only Emeralde Private Metal. ICICI Reward Points are worth up to ~₹1 each on iShop and voucher redemptions and ₹0.40 against a statement, so the 4 RP/₹100 is best treated as ~4% via iShop, ~1.6% to statement; fuel, rent, cash and wallet loads earn nothing, and utility, insurance and government payments drop to 1 RP/₹100. Since Nov 2024 those categories also carry per-cycle spend caps — ₹80,000 of utility, ₹80,000 of insurance and ₹40,000 of grocery — and the BookMyShow benefit became spend-gated at ₹25,000 a quarter from Jan 2026. Solid for the ICICI customer who will clear the waiver and redeem via iShop; the Private Metal is the better card if you can get invited.
Why it stands out 4 RP/₹100 (up to ~4% via iShop) + unlimited domestic lounges + Priority Pass, ₹12,000 fee waived at ₹10L
Best suited for For ICICI customers who will clear the ₹10 lakh waiver and redeem points through iShop. If you can secure an invite, the Emeralde Private Metal is the stronger card.

The HSBC Premier World Mastercard waives its ₹20,000 annual fee for Qualified HSBC Premier customers (the ₹12,000 joining fee applies post-activation) and pairs a class-leading 0.99% forex markup with unlimited domestic and international lounge access (1,400+ lounges, plus 8 guest visits) and ₹1 crore of travel insurance — with none of the spend-threshold games that clutter its rivals. It earns 3 reward points per ₹100 on eligible spends and up to 12X on travel booked through the HSBC Travel with Points portal, points never expire, and they transfer to about 20 airline and hotel partners (mostly 1:1). Note the April 2025 changes: eleven everyday categories (utilities, insurance, education, government, wallets, rent and more) now share a cumulative ₹1 lakh/month earn cap, and fuel no longer earns points. It will not out-earn an Infinia, but for a Premier customer the unlimited lounges, sub-1% forex and ₹1cr cover make it close to a no-brainer. The only real barrier is the banking relationship.
Why it stands out Annual fee waived for Qualified Premier customers (₹12,000 joining fee applies): 0.99% forex, unlimited lounges (1,400+) + ₹1cr travel insurance, points that never expire
Best suited for For HSBC Premier banking customers who travel internationally — the 0.99% forex, unlimited lounges and ₹1cr insurance are genuinely premium, and the annual fee is waived with the relationship.

The Axis Burgundy Private Credit Card — marketed as "The One Card" — is issued only to Axis Burgundy Private banking clients (the bank's top private-wealth tier, requiring a total relationship value of around ₹5 crore). It earns 15 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200 across most spends, transferable to Axis's 24 airline and hotel partners at 5:4 — the best ratio Axis gives any card, and the one it kept through both the 2023 and 2026 culls. That works out near ~6% on the best transfer redemptions against ~1.5% if you redeem on the EDGE catalogue. Its standout is the fee economics and the forex: the ₹1,00,000 fee is nil for Burgundy Private clients, and there is zero forex markup plus no cash-withdrawal advance fee — rare on an Indian card, though shared with Axis's other super-premium cards. The wrapper matches the field: unlimited domestic and international lounge access (Priority Pass, primary and add-on, 12 guest visits, 8 meet-and-assist services), up to 50 domestic golf rounds/lessons plus 4 international, a 24x7 concierge, and complimentary Club Marriott, Accor Plus, Taj Epicure and EazyDiner Prime memberships. Note that the 30,000-point welcome and annual benefit this card was once sold on was discontinued on 20 April 2024 — there is no welcome bonus today.
Why it stands out The card for Axis Burgundy Private banking clients — 15 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200, nil forex markup, unlimited worldwide lounges, golf and top hotel memberships, and a ₹1,00,000 fee that is waived for the relationship it is designed around
Best suited for Axis Burgundy Private banking clients who want a single premium card with zero forex, unlimited lounges and rich hotel memberships — for them the fee is waived and the card is effectively free to hold.

Complimentary memberships renew only if you opt in
Memberships renewed automatically each year→Renewed only with the cardholder's explicit consent
From 15 November 2026 the complimentary memberships attached to the card — the lifestyle, dining and travel programmes bundled with the annual fee — renew only if you actively consent. Axis says renewal details and consent options will be shared closer to each renewal date. Read it as a cost-control move: a benefit you have to remember to claim is a benefit fewer people claim, so if you value one of these memberships, watch for the consent prompt rather than assuming it rolls over.

Standalone fee doubles to ₹1,00,000 for holders below the ₹5 crore relationship bar
₹50,000 + GST→₹1,00,000 + GST
Axis's customer notice states that from 1 September 2026 a revised annual fee of ₹1 lakh plus GST applies to the Burgundy Private - The One Card where total relationship value falls below ₹5 crore, doubling it from ₹50,000. The fee stays nil for clients who hold the relationship, so this bites only on the way out of the tier. Axis's own documents already disagree ahead of the date: the MITC prints ₹1,00,000 for both joining and annual fee today, while the Key Fact Sheet still prints ₹50,000. This is a separate date from the 28 August 2026 T&C batch and should not be folded into it.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club returns as a transfer partner
Qatar Airways Privilege Club unavailable — removed 2 April 2026→Privilege Club available again at 5 EDGE Reward Points : 4 Avios on Burgundy Private
Qatar Airways Privilege Club is back in Axis Bank's published EDGE Reward Points transfer table. Axis gave no notice either way: it was absent from our 16 July 2026 capture of the Travel EDGE terms and present in the 5 August 2026 capture, which now lists 24 partners, so the return landed somewhere in that window and 5 August is the date we verified it. This reverses only part of the April cull — Accor Live Limitless and Marriott Bonvoy remain gone — and Privilege Club does not come back on its old terms. Burgundy Private keeps the pre-devaluation 5:4 here, so it converts into Privilege Club at four times the Reserve and Magnus rate.

SmartBuy brand-voucher earning capped at 3,000 RP/mo
Full 15,000 RP/mo via vouchers→3,000 RP/mo via Brand Vouchers
A separate, much lower ceiling now applies to Brand Vouchers (GyFTR/Woohoo) on SmartBuy — accelerated points on vouchers capped at 3,000 RP per month (~80% cut). The overall 15,000 RP/mo SmartBuy cap is unchanged, but the rest must now be earned via other SmartBuy categories.

Dynamic currency conversion markup raised to 1.75%
1% markup→1.75% markup
HDFC's MITC: "Dynamic currency conversion Markup Fee: With effect from 15th May 2026, a Markup fee of 1.75% will be levied on all transactions carried out in Indian Currency at an international location or at merchants which are located in India but registered overseas." This is separate from, and stacks on top of, the card's ordinary foreign-currency markup. It is the charge you pay for accepting a terminal's offer to bill you in rupees while abroad - always decline that offer and pay in the local currency. It also catches India-based purchases from merchants registered overseas, which is easy to trigger without leaving the country. The PIXEL MITC dates the same change 17 May 2026.

EDGE transfer partners culled — Burgundy Private alone keeps 5:4 ratio
Accor Live Limitless, Marriott Bonvoy, Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 5:4→British Airways, Finnair, Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles at 5:4 (ratio retained, partners downgraded)
Axis dropped Accor Live Limitless, Marriott Bonvoy and Qatar Airways as EDGE transfer partners with no notice, replacing them with British Airways, Finnair and Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles — Burgundy Private is the one card in the stable that kept its 5:4 points-to-partner ratio through the cull, though the weaker partner roster is itself a real value cut.

Retention tightened — ₹18L spend or ₹50L relationship
No published spend or relationship test for continued access→₹18L card spend OR ₹50L relationship value
For FY2026-27 (1 Apr 2026 – 31 Mar 2027), continued access to the Infinia programme requires ₹18 lakh of card spend (primary + add-ons) OR a ₹50 lakh relationship value (avg. balances across SB/CA/FD/RD) with HDFC. Non-qualifiers are notified in 2027 and may be downgraded or removed from the programme. ⚠ This is NOT the fee waiver, and the two were conflated here until 2026-08-16. The renewal-fee waiver for Infinia (Metal Edition) is ₹10 lakh a year and did not move — it is printed in the same MITC fee table this event cites as provenance (v4.5, Aug 2026: "Infinia (Metal Edition) ₹12,500 | ₹10 Lakh / Annum"), which post-dates this event's own effective date by four months. The ₹18L reached us through press coverage that made the same conflation.

Transport-category earning capped
Transport spends earned uncapped→Transport rewards capped at ₹20,000 per statement cycle
From 1 February 2026 ICICI capped the reward points earned on transport-category spends — rail, bus, taxi, tolls and similar — at ₹20,000 of spend per statement cycle on its Gemstone-tier cards. Spend above the cap still posts to the card, it simply stops earning. The cap is per statement cycle, not per month, so a long cycle does not buy extra headroom.

5X on Gyftr vouchers→5X retained (change withdrawn)
HDFC announced a cut of Gyftr/SmartBuy voucher earning from 5X to 3X effective 16 Jan 2026, then reversed it via a SmartBuy portal banner on 14 Jan 2026 — before it took effect. Included for completeness: it shows the volatility holders faced even though the net value did not change.

BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated
Complimentary→Requires ₹25,000 spend in previous quarter
With effect from 15 Jan 2026 the BookMyShow movie-ticket benefit is unlocked only if the cardholder spent at least ₹25,000 in the preceding quarter — a shift from an unconditional perk to a spend-gated one. ICICI's MITC illustrates the mechanic with the Apr–Jun 2026 quarter, which is why the change is often quoted as starting 1 Apr; the revision itself is dated 15 Jan 2026.

Fuel, rent and wallet loads stripped of rewards
Fuel still earned reward points→Fuel, rent, cash and third-party wallet loads earn nothing
ICICI's January 2026 round confirmed that fuel, rent, cash and third-party wallet-load transactions earn no reward points on the Emeralde. Government and tax payments were NOT stripped on this card: ICICI's MITC bills government transactions as utility payments (a Feb 2024 change), so they continue to earn the reduced 1 reward point per ₹100 inside the utility cap. The outright government/tax exclusion applies to the Emeralde Private Metal, a separate product. Everyday retail continued to earn 4 RP per ₹100.

HSBC unveiled the HSBC Rewards Marketplace, adding 20 airline and hotel transfer partners — 15 airlines (Air India Maharaja Club, KrisFlyer, Etihad, British Airways, Flying Blue, Qatar and more) and five hotel chains (Accor, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG, Shangri-La Circle, Wyndham) — with 1:1 conversion for most partners on Premier and roughly one-day conversion turnaround, plus a 20,000+ item redemption catalogue.

Fuel dropped and category caps added to the 3X earn
3 RP/₹100 on all spends, no exclusions→Fuel earns nothing; ~11 categories capped at ₹1,00,000/month
From 1 April 2025 fuel stopped earning Reward Points entirely, and a cumulative ₹1,00,000 monthly cap was applied to the 3X earn on utilities, insurance, tax, jewellery, money transfer, real estate, e-wallets, education/government and financial/non-financial institutions. HSBC had originally planned to exclude these categories outright but walked that back to caps before go-live, keeping only fuel fully excluded.

How this list has changed
Our picks move when the cards do — these are CardAdvisor’s own list updates, dated, with the reason. They are editorial decisions, not issuer events.
- 29 Aug 2026 · Removed Amex Platinum Charge — American Express paused new applications across its entire India line-up in August 2026, so this card can no longer be applied for; a paused pick is silently dropped from the rendered list, which would publish a rank with a hole in it.
- 14 Aug 2026 · Removed Axis Magnus — Premium buyers were buying the transfer table and milestones; both were gutted in April 2026, leaving ~1.2–2% at ₹12,500.
- 14 Aug 2026 · Removed Axis Reserve — At what was then the same ₹50,000 fee, Axis’s own Burgundy Private earns double (6% vs 3% effective) — the Reserve lost its slot to its sibling. (The Burgundy Private’s standalone fee rose to ₹1,00,000 on 1 September 2026; it stays waived for relationship clients.)
- 14 Aug 2026 · Removed Sbi Aurum — Roughly 1% earning and the lowest expert rating in the set; its perks-first case could not carry a "strongest first" ranking.
- 14 Aug 2026 · Added HSBC Premier World Mastercard — 3% at ₹1/point, a 0.99% forex markup and one of only two Accor transfer routes left — fee waived for Premier customers.
- 14 Aug 2026 · Added Axis Bank Burgundy Private Credit Card — 6% effective base earning — the richest openly published earn rate in the catalog below the ultra-invite tier.
