Kotak 811 #DreamDifferent Credit Card

The Kotak 811 #DreamDifferent is an FD-secured starter — back it with a fixed deposit, skip the income proof, and start building a CIBIL score while the deposit keeps earning interest. The credit limit runs up to 90% of the amount Kotak marks a lien on. There is no annual fee ever, but a ₹250 + GST joining fee applies if the deposit is under ₹20,000 — so the smallest deposits are not the cheapest way in. Its product is not the rewards (2 reward points per ₹100 online and 1 per ₹100 offline — Kotak publishes no redemption value for this card, so the ~0.4% and ~0.2% figures used here rest on our own ₹0.20-a-point estimate) — it is credit access. Kotak advertises milestone benefits worth up to ₹1,000, though it does not publish the spend that qualifies, and has run a welcome offer of three months of OTTPlay for ₹1 plus a ₹250 Woohoo voucher — the last terms Kotak published for that offer ran to 31 December 2025 and required an 811 savings account, so check whether it is still live before applying. There is also a 1% fuel surcharge waiver. Fuel and railway spends earn no reward points. For a credit-invisible first-timer who can fund a small FD, it is an easy, low-risk way into the formal system. (A separate unsecured Kotak 811 with a ₹500 fee exists for those who qualify without an FD.)

In-depth review

Kotak 811

An FD-secured starter with no annual fee — back it with a fixed deposit (from ₹10,000), skip the income proof and credit-history checks, and start building a CIBIL score while the deposit keeps earning interest. Its product isn't the rewards (2 points per ₹100 online — an estimated ~0.4%, since Kotak publishes no point value for this card) — it's credit access. For a credit-invisible first-timer who can fund a small FD, it's an easy, low-risk way into the formal system. ⭐

0.4% on Online Shopping

2 reward points per ₹100 on online spends (~0.4% at an assumed ₹0.20 a point — Kotak publishes no point value for this card, so the percentage is our estimate); points never expire

⭐

0.2% on Other

1 reward point per ₹100 on offline/other spends (~0.2% at an assumed ₹0.20 a point — Kotak publishes no point value for this card, so the percentage is our estimate)

Who is this for?

The concern

Your money is locked as collateral while you build history, limits track the FD, and the rewards are minimal by design — a tool for credit access, not returns.

Frequently asked questions

Is income proof required?
No — Kotak 811 is one of the only Indian cards with genuinely zero income proof requirement via the Kotak 811 app.
What is the credit limit?
It tracks your fixed deposit — Kotak sets the limit at up to 90% of the amount it marks a lien on, and its 811 page says you can choose a limit from ₹9,000 upwards by sizing the deposit accordingly. To raise it later you link a larger deposit; it does not step up on its own as payment history builds.
Why should I use this to build a CIBIL score?
Pay the full outstanding every month for 12-18 months. Your on-time payment history is reported to CIBIL, building a credit score from zero.
When should I upgrade?
After 12-18 months of on-time payments, apply for an unsecured card such as the Amazon Pay ICICI. ICICI publishes no credit-score minimum for it, and asks salaried applicants for ₹30,000 a month.
What rewards does it earn?
Reward points, not cashback — 2 points per ₹100 online and 1 point per ₹100 on other spends, with fuel and railway spends earning nothing. Kotak publishes no redemption value for this card, so any effective percentage is our estimate rather than an issuer figure — at an assumed ₹0.20 a point that is roughly 0.4% online and 0.2% elsewhere. Functional, not exciting — this card's purpose is credit building. In effective-return terms this card's best everyday earn is 0.4% on online shopping, against 0.2% on other spends — percentages here are the real return after converting points at their card-specific value, not the headline points-per-₹100. Figures as of October 2026.

Kotak UPI RuPay Credit Card

A lifetime-free, virtual-only RuPay card built for one job: putting a credit line behind your UPI QR payments. Link it to Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm and scan-and-pay from a credit line, earning 3 reward points per ₹100. Be clear-eyed on value, though — Kotak points are worth about ₹0.10 (₹0.07 as cash since June 2025), so the effective return is a thin ~0.3%, and a long exclusion list earns nothing. A convenience card, not a rewards engine.

→

AU Bank Xcite Credit Card

An entry-level card that quietly out-earns its tier — 15 reward points per ₹100 (≈3.75%) on dining, movies, departmental stores and groceries, plus 3 per ₹100 on other retail, all for a token ₹249 fee. The catch isn't the earn rate; it's AU's ₹0.25-per-point currency and thinner redemption catalogue, the fuel/wallet exclusions, railway-only lounges and the fact that it isn't lifetime-free. Strong everyday earner for someone who'll spend in its bonus categories.

IndianOil Kotak Credit Card

A low-fee fuel co-brand built around IndianOil pumps — up to 5% value back on IndianOil fuel (4% as reward points plus a 1% surcharge waiver), 2% on grocery and dining, and a bit on UPI since it is a RuPay card. But the 4% fuel reward is capped at 1,200 points a statement, the points are worth ~₹0.25 via the portal (less as cash), and off-fuel earning is thin. Hold it for the IndianOil fuel, not as an everyday card.

→

PVR INOX Kotak Credit Card

A single-purpose entertainment card for frequent movie-goers — one free PVR INOX ticket (worth up to ₹300) per ₹10,000 band of monthly spend, uncapped, plus 5% off tickets, 20% off food and beverages, and in-cinema lounge access. What it does not give is base reward points — Kotak publishes no earn rate for it — while the ₹499 renewal fee has no spend waiver, booking fees and taxes stay payable on a 'free' ticket, and rent/wallet/gaming spends do not count. Hold it for the movies, and pair it with a rewards card for everything else.

→

Kotak League Platinum Credit Card

Once a quietly smart low-fee pick for the urban movie-and-dining crowd, a June 2025 devaluation (redemption minimums and category caps) knocked it down a peg — reward points worth up to ₹0.10 (less on cash), an effective rate of ~0.5% at best, and a movie benefit that's milestone-based (4 PVR tickets per ₹1.25 lakh every six months), not a monthly perk. Hold it only if you'll clear the milestone; otherwise a flat-cashback card serves you better.

→

Kotak Cashback+ Prime Credit Card

The flagship of Kotak's Cashback+ family, and one of the few Kotak cards worth holding for rewards rather than credit access — because its cashback is real ₹1-a-point value rather than reward points. It earns 5% on online grocery, food delivery and entertainment (plus auto dealers), 3% on fuel and 0.5% on everything else. The catch is the cap: the 5% bucket is limited to 750 points (₹750) per billing cycle across all those categories combined.

→

IDFC FIRST WOW! Credit Card

An FD-secured, lifetime-free card that needs no income proof or credit history — your FD becomes your collateral and your limit, keeps earning interest, and quietly builds your CIBIL score, with a genuinely useful zero-forex markup on top. It's a credit-access tool, not a rewards card. For students, freelancers and first-time earners who can fund a ₹20,000 FD, it's the correct, honest first step.

→

ICICI Bank Platinum Chip Credit Card

A lifetime-free, no-frills starter whose real product is a CIBIL score, not rewards. The ICICI Reward Points earn is among the least valuable currencies in India and effectively a rounding error. Use it cleanly for a year and move up. As a stepping stone it's fine — but ICICI's own free Amazon Pay card out-earns it for most people, so consider that first.

→

AU Altura Credit Card

A basic entry cashback card — 2% on groceries, departmental stores and utilities (capped ₹50/month), plus a fuel surcharge waiver — best understood as a credit-building starter, not a rewards engine. The one thing to correct before applying: it offers railway lounge access, not airport lounges. Take it for what it is, build your score, and upgrade later.

June 2025 revision: 1% category transaction fees added

No category transaction fee (reported)→1% above per-cycle limits; 2% on all rent

As part of Kotak's bank-wide 1 June 2025 credit-card revision, this card's Key Fact Statement (version KFSDD12032026) prices a 1% fee on fuel spends above ₹25,000 a statement cycle, utility spends above ₹35,000, and wallet loads and online skill-based gaming above ₹10,000, plus 1% on education paid through third-party apps and 2% on all rent payments. The wider list of categories that stopped earning points is published by Kotak for the unsecured 811 and the UPI RuPay card, not on any #DreamDifferent page — a transaction fee is not the same thing as losing accrual, and the only earning exclusions Kotak states for this card are fuel and railway spends.

    2 RP per ₹100 online; FD-secured from a ₹15,000 deposit, marketed lifetime-free

On 15 July 2020 Kotak rebranded its Aqua Gold card into the 811 #DreamDifferent — an FD-secured starter for credit-invisible applicants with no income proof, marketed as lifetime-free. The launch release named four things — lifetime-free status, up to 48 days interest-free, 2 reward points per ₹100 on online spends, and a fuel and railway surcharge waiver. The deposit backing it started at ₹15,000 (₹10,000 today) and kept earning interest, letting a first-timer build a CIBIL history at zero fee. The release named no milestone benefit and no offline earn rate.
